what’s with the sudden influx of takes about tim “lying” to steph about his relationship with bernard? being in the closet does not mean you’re lying to anyone, no matter how close you are. tim had already broken up with steph before realizing he wanted to date bernard, there was literally no need for her to know about a relationship he wasn’t ready to go public with yet.

i get that the story really plays up the “tim was being terrible and GHOSTING her” thing, and yeah, he definitely could have handled the situation better, but i really dislike the implication that putting off coming out to someone because you’re not ready somehow means you’re actively being malicious towards them.

i’m sorry i know this is nitpicky but i can’t get over “i don’t only like girls” like the book is called dc pride tim drake special and he still can’t directly say he likes boys??

i feel like tim’s pride special was always going to be disappointing given the fact that the new story was only going to be like 8 pages long after waiting 6 months for it, but it’s still sad to see so many people wishing we could see more of tim and bernard and have their relationship developed IN TIM’S OWN PRIDE SPECIAL. honestly ul #6 should have been the end of us getting this story in bite sized scraps which barely have enough page space to set up a generic one-shot comic plot, let alone give the characters time to have the conversations fans are desperate to see them have in a way that feels genuinely satisfying. it’s disheartening to see the demand for tim’s journey be largely ignored while there are plenty of other bat ongoings that frankly have no momentum or story that is begging to be told the way this one is.

and this hurts other characters too. steph basically has to jump straight to accepting and being totally cool and excited about tim’s new boyfriend, because there’s no time to show her processing the break up, and if she was just shown even being mildly bothered by tim’s new relationship she’d be ripped to shreds for it. i don’t know, it just sucks because it seems like something that fitzmartin might like to explore in depth, but she isn’t being given a fair chance to.

i know at least some of this will be further explored in dark crisis young justice, and i’m really excited for that, but it’s just frustrating that after an entire year tim still doesn’t have his own space to tell his story. i don’t expect bernard to appear in a young justice book, so once again we’ll be stuck with tim saying how happy he is, while we miss out on huge chunks of their relationship which are really crucial for us to actually see. their story in the pride anthology was so touching and beautifully done, but i hate that after a full year it feels like we’re still at square one in getting to know them. even worse, i’m afraid that whether or not we get a solid home for them in the future is entirely dependent on how well a severely under promoted one-shot reprint sells.

wanting to dig into tim’s monologue about how safe and secure and happy he finally feels but instead i just start to cry every time i picture him baking a cake and decorating it with individual rainbow colored letters

i DO believe the string of tim appearances where he’s been brutally beaten up (even as a joke, it’s a weird joke) is all just an unfortunate coincidence, and i don’t think any individual writer knew at the time of writing them that these would be his ONLY appearances for several months, so i don’t think anyone was being intentionally mean spirited. but.

maybe we should complain a little so NEXT TIME a character comes out of the closet, one of their first appearances might not involve them literally being CURB STOMPED just because it’s a cool violent au and you feel like you can get away with it…

i guess i get why in the last few years there’s been a pushback against fanworks going too far in dramatizing tim’s depressive episodes, but the whole “tim’s doing kickflips in the board meeting, he doesn’t care about anything!!” fanon thing is such a huge disservice to his character. like, tim has been crumbling under the weight of just how much he cares since he was like four years old, IT’S FUN. he’s a little bit weird and intense and i love him.

my one secret (and very unlikely to happen) hope for all of the upcoming tim content is that somewhere in there we get a flashback or something of pre-robin tim. compared to how often we have dick and jason giving us glimpses into their early childhood this is something we’ve almost never had for tim, and i know the difference is that jack was alive for most of tim’s run as robin, but like. in 30 years i don’t think we’ve ever even seen tim interacting with his mother outside of like a dream he had one time. basically can we please please remember tim had a past i’m tired of tim fans having to dig deep for scraps of what his early life was like.
