So beloved his grave became a garden
The hospital room smelt of roses weeks after his passing
We count our lucky starts when we count our flowers
But he wasn’t around to count his
And maybe if he was he wouldn’t have stepped off the ledge

maybe it's better to be a ghost wandering the spectral plains, observing the world not like movers and shakers do, but as the very thing that's watching from the sidelines. In the world some people are meant to bask under the spot line and others will hold the lights right in place . Maybe the closest way to feel like God is by stepping aside and letting stars rise on their own. To be a ghost is to be a witness to history, and a testament to humans that someone is always watching them, for better or worse. Life doesn't happen to ghosts, it happens to people. the ghosts only promise to watch.

I object to you. I object to intellect without discipline;
I object to power without constructive purpose.

“Do not wear too fine, nor yet too frowzy, a toga. One needs no silver plate, encrusted and embossed in solid gold; but we should not believe the lack of silver and gold to be proof of the simple life. Let us try to maintain a higher standard of life than that of the multitude, but not a contrary standard; otherwise, we shall frighten away and repel the very persons whom we are trying to improve.”

Aeschines: “I can find nothing to give you which is worthy of you; I feel my poverty in this respect alone. Therefore I present you with the only good thing I possess: myself. I pray that you may take this as my present, such as it is, in good part, and may remember that the others, although they gave you much, yet left for themselves more than what they gave. Socrates: Surely you have bestowed a great present upon me, unless perchance you set a small value upon yourself. I will accordingly take pains to restore you to yourself a better man than when I received you <3

I recognize the goodness of someone and interpret it as beautiful, and then I react (emotionally and behaviorally) in a particular way.
That reaction we call love.
The reaction is a pleasant expansion of the soul, felt at once when I see her and at last when I die. My care becomes care for her, and her well-being is included in my own.
If she would reciprocate then I too will be cared for. As we cared for ourselves, we care for one another.
This care is not possible without knowing her. So I must know her through and through.
That knowledge we call love.
The knowledge is a pleasant belief in her beauty and her goodness, and the way her eyes hollow out as she stares at the wall. It is a dreadful belief in her anger, and her vindictiveness.
If my love remains a reaction, I cannot know her, and so I cannot love her. If my love stops when I know that she is angry, or vicious, I will cease to love her when she expresses those traits.
So, I need some mechanism of loving her despite her vice. One that allows me to love even if I know she can be bad— not just responsive to her goodness or her beauty, but to her in herself.
That mechanism we call grace.
I put it to you that love begins as a reaction, solidifies with knowledge, and endures with grace. Take care that you develop a disposition to react in the same way as you did when you first saw her.

Seneca:
"Moreover, hating those who go astray is not the trait of a prudent man; otherwise he will have to hate himself. Let him ponder how many offenses against good behavior he commits, how many of the things he’s done call for pardon: presently he’ll be angry even at himself."

tumblr fame gets you one thing and it is Yelled At
no one knows what the fuck the nsfw policy is
block anyone that annoys you even a little bit
And most importantly:

“He was dark-haired as his mother and promised to be like her in mood also; for he was not merry and spoke little, though he learned to speak early and ever seemed older than his years. Túrin was slow to forget injustice or mockery, but his father's fire was also in him, and he could be sudden and fierce. Yet he was quick to pity, and the hurts or sadness of living things might move him to tears.”
