ANIMATOR STORYTIME

When I worked on The Mr Peabody and Sherman Show for Netflix a coworker and I noticed fanart for our show here on Tumblr. We decided to make a blog celebrating all the show's praise along with an in-studio wall for showcasing fanart and words of encouragement.

There was a particular artist who was our show's number one cheerleader, drawing art and hyping the show. When you work on a production it can feel like you're drawing for no one. But that person kept us motivated.

Eventually that artist found our blog with a pic of the wall showcasing their work. They were ecstatic.

I'm not sure how but a "HIGHER POWER" found the blog and told us to shut it down. We fought for it but after legal bladdy-blah we complied.

Our #1 fan made a post about the blog being shut down. I forget exactly what the post said but I think they felt partially responsible.

A week later the Los Angeles crew made their own Peabody blog. Interesting.

I had a good guess of the HIGHER POWER's identity.

Now that The Mr Peabody and Sherman Show is delisted from Netflix my thoughts land on that fan.

I wish I fought harder for the blog and I fought harder for you. I considered sending a message telling you to not blame yourself but...

If you're reading this, know that we didn't forget your passion. Every production needs its fans, and you were Number 1.

I love the opening of Look Back. They could have used 3D for this shot but opted to hand draw it, imperfections and all. Fujimoto isn't the greatest draftsman but keeping his style with this adaptation is charming.

When I was young there was a friend I was really jealous of. I moved away and lost contact with him. A few years later I saw on the news he was murdered while playing in the yard with his brother.

Children have this ability to appear okay after trauma. I thought I was fine. I didn't cry back then but by the end of Look Back I was in shambles.

I don't think I have the strength to watch this again but I may have an answer to deal with this wound. It's through making art.

They really captured the jankiness of Fujimoto's style.

Beautiful, fun and emotional. I fell in love with all the new characters and would love to see the One Piece world from more perspectives.

I watched a lot of Dressrosa screenshotting all the reference of these little dudes. Did you know Bomba and Bombomba are brothers?

I knew I wanted Mauji to run upfront but wanted everyone to shine equally.

Initially I wanted Rampo lower since he's a vice chief but didn't work in the final composition.

Lost the full timelapse (oops). I've gotten into the habit of discovering poses as I draw- slowly pulling art from the fog. Mauji's arm spread is very Arale-chan, huh?

Columbus is such a fun character to draw so I explored a ton of different ideas. When thinking of a way to stand-out I was gonna go with a SD Chibi look, but then thought "lets go much further."
