hey i just saw your post critiquing a societal norm. well, i like doing everything that society expects of me and i was actually raised in an empty 8x8 cube for the first 18 years of my life. i am the only person to have ever been raised in a vacuum and i came out with all the behaviors expected of my age, sex, and origin without ever having seen another human being before. so. maybe keep that in mind next time you post, mkay?

“fanon is so much better then canon” bestie, you literally took a complex character with personality flaws and turned him into a living stereotype.

if i can impart any one piece of wisdom to y’all, it’s to, whenever possible, assume good intentions
assume people are trying their best, want to be good and treat others well, and that when their behavior doesn’t align with those goals, it’s because of outside factors that are pushing them to their limit
it’s hard to do, it doesn’t always come naturally, but it’s worth it

whenever someone is like "[X] is so good but you can't just recommend it casually bc it has every trigger warning under the sun" that in itself is a recommendation. all the truly good shit needs a minimum of 5 disclaimers or it can't possibly reach the level of visceral catharsis necessary to be classified as a masterpiece. the funnier variant of this is when you come across a callout post for a piece of media that ends up reading like a recommendation instead

Adding my voice to the dozens that are saying media literacy and reading literacy are not the same. Those three links above are about reading literacy (literally, being able to read) - not about being able to understand that fiction is fiction.
However, there is definitely both an issue with reading and media literacy right now.
we are in a media literacy crisis

"The state can't be trusted to kill the right people but I, some random person, can be" is an attitude that directly leads to mob "justice" like lynchings btw.

All of this.
Just because people want to be good, it doesn't mean they're always going to go about it properly. This is one such example that not only harms the individual, but other people once they start unloading the beliefs onto everyone around them.

Tonight, I went looking for more articles to add to my collection of anti essays, and I found one from Elliott Dunstan called Behind the Curtain: Anti-Shipping is a Bad Faith Position.
He managed to put into words what bothers me about the line, "it's just fandom drama and I'm above it", which many people use to dismiss the anti movement. He does this by positing that the anti movement is an entry point for radical feminism, and for mobilizing people against PornHub, OnlyFans, etc. One quote I particularly liked was:
"Much like how Gamergate and the alt-right used videogames and 4chan to get to young men, TERFs and radfems have happily used Tumblr and Twitter to disguise their talking points in 'low-stakes' affairs like ships. This serves several purposes. One, nobody’s really going to think about it too hard. It’s fandom. It’s not that serious. Two, nobody outside of fandom will take you seriously. If you’re harassed or lose your job because of dumb fandom drama, it’s at least partially your own fault for engaging in 'silly fandom stuff for children' – at least in many people’s eyes. And three, it gives them direct access to a receptive audience; marginalized people in fandom who feel shut out for other reasons."
I felt it was pretty well written and makes some very good points.

People need to chill on assuming fandom preferences are evidence of my personal moral code. I’m sorry, did you say I like my blorbo because I’m “racist”? That’s such a leap My Guy. That’s just an insane thing to put out there. Just randomly pinning something that loaded on me? Because I write little stories about a little guy? You think my coffee shop AU makes me a child predator? You think I’m abusive to my partner because I like enemies to lovers? Good sweet cheesecake, that’s so mean and so rude. And also so bombastically stupid.

btw. being kink positive means ALL kinks even the ones you think are "immoral" or whatever the fuck. "but what about-" especially that one. no sex act between consenting adults is immoral actually. kill the cop in your brain.
of course that doesn't mean you have to be comfortable with every kink. it's fine to have limits for your own personal stuff. but if you judge people based on what they do with their consenting partners, I cannot stress this enough, you are being a bad person.

if you insist that anyone making queer art must be openly, loudly queer, or else it is some form of faking/baiting/etc for clout, you are a bizarre individual and i do not like you
