and the reason is purely because gerard fucking /knows/ he's doing wrong and he doesn't care. monroe is just deluded.

gerard just plans to slip a knife between her ribs before she can betray him,   or a bullet between her eyes.    i feel like this is his plan for just about every single person he surrounds himself with,   because he doesn’t trust anyone.

so this isn’t a diss on argents or anything except gerard, fuck that guy! but if you’ve read anything i ever wrote or even talked to me for five minutes you know How I Am about hunters: when you go into a profession like this, no matter how good your intentions, you’re still devoting your life to killing work. sure, hunters protect people, but when monsters are people too, there’s a gray area—which people is it okay to put down to protect others? how far do you go to save someone from themself if they can’t help what they’re doing? which people and lives take priority? in the end, the choice is often made by someone who already holds an incredible bias. 

i think hunters in a world like this must struggle with a terrible sort of darkness; most people, werewolves included, are raised in a society that says killing is wrong, but hunters are raised to believe killing is often not only unavoidable and necessary, but the RIGHT thing to do—especially if someone who isn’t human is the one in your crosshairs. and it must be SO EASY when you commit so much “excusable” violence to slip and begin to become numb to it, to begin killing for the wrong reasons: anger, grief, fear—or worse, fun…and before you know it, all that bloodlust you’ve condemned your whole life is running in your veins too.

gerard is such a hated character in the tw fandom so i salute you for taking on his character !! i hope you don't get too much crap for it

thank you! so far, no crap. but it’s also because as i play him, i still absolutely know what kind of shitbag character i’m playing. there is a lot wrong with this man, and even though he sees his motivations and feels like he’s doing the right thing?? cmon, there’s a reason he’s the MOST HATED character on this entire show. i just have always been a little bit fascinated with playing the characters that are so irredeemable. 

there’s nothing that gerard could ever do to redeem himself, and honestly, he doesn’t want to. because he feels no need to BE redeemed. he’s done nothing wrong in his own eyes, but fight against the supernatural for killing so many innocents. for destroying the abominations that they are. 

wow that got lengthier than i wanted it to be. but thank you! i very much appreciate the kind words. i can only hope i do him justice.

What do you think Gerard has planned

well, his overall plan that tamora and the others assume he has is fairly simple: kill all supernatural creatures. eradicate the world of the same terrible creatures that are responsible for the utter destruction of his family. the reason why his daughter is a monster. the reason his granddaughter is dead, his wife is dead, his daughter in law is dead, his son has turned away from him - the only person that’s still alive and human that could be on his side. destroyed his strong, hunter family, that’s been around for GENERATIONS. killed countless innocents throughout his life. maybe not the mccall pack, but the supernatural are all the same to him. creatures that must be destroyed. he’s always been more about killing them than any hunter’s code that’s ever existed. he stuck to that code, for the most part, until the deaths of people in his family. until, really, the  “ death ”  of his only daughter. he’s always been a harsh / abusive father, and a harsh hunter, but their family has been strong and it’s really not until he loses members of his family that the potential for him to stroke the desire for complete annihilation and genocide has felt like a true option in his grasp. before he’d just kill whatever he came across. the loss of his family? he wants them all dead. no exceptions.

that ^ is the extent of what he will share with monroe in order to gain her sympathy and trust. he will share the death of his family and pain with her, and offer to share any and all knowledge he has about superntural in the name of genocide, and to protect the human race. he will, of course, hide his own manipulative tendencies towards his family, and how he’s created more problems than solved them, but even if he were to tell her things about deucalion? he could still warp it, in her mind and the other’s, into a way that shows him as sympathetic because all supernatural creatures are evil. that’s what she believes, and what the hunters believe, and he’s not about to do anything to disprove THAT. 

the problem is that gerard is also incredibly thirsty for any and all power he can grasp. after chris brought him back to defeat the beast, he helped, because ultimately he knew that being an asset to their fight would keep him alive - and it did. being useful was exactly what he needed to be cured, and to regain his place as a healthy human being that was no longer dying of cancer. still, after that, he was mostly just biding his time. wanting that power back. wanting that revenge ( not, as it seems, unlike peter ). trying to explain this is a little difficult, as he’s an incredibly complex person with many layers. when it comes to dying?? he’ll sacrifice anyone to ensure he lives. his own son, it turns out, and anyone else that’s in his path. with no threat of imminent death from cancer, however, his motivations change. with his life firmly in his hands, he wants his power back. his family’s destroyed so he doesn’t have them to manipulate anymore, but what does he have? the hunters. maybe he’s not their designated leader, but gerard knows where the true power lies - and he knows he’s given monroe everything she’s needed up until now. he wants the supernatural destroyed. wants scott mccall to BURN. once the mccall pack is dead, everything else will be icing on the cake for him. 

so you asked about his plans. his plan is to continue to gain power, kill the mccall pack especially, and annihilate the entirety of the supernatural race. he just needs to stop being so cocky, and eventually realize that monroe is ( especially with this new episode ) wising up to some of his motivations and loyalties.

it can be so conflicting to play a muse who is, without a shadow of a doubt, so evil. but he may not necessarily BELIEVE he’s evil. he’s delusional enough to believe he’s justified in everything he’s doing. it can really fuck you up.

as a person who loves to write gerard, there’s a part of me that argues in my own head about who deserves to kill gerard the most. it would be satisfying if chris or kate got a chance to do it. kate killing him to protect chris. there’s also something a little satisfying in the idea of monroe realizing what gerard really is, that the pack isn’t bad, and her shooting him herself. 

i just want him down smh.
