I'm usually pretty good at filtering for the things I want on ao3, but this one seems a little harder to find.

(I want it to still be in or similar to the canon Supernatural Universe, and not one of the AUs where they are normal people, or different creatures)

Anyone else have the issue where, in a fanfic, you picture Dean on one side of the bed / couch, then the story mentions something that would only work if he was on the opposite, so your whole vision of the story is messed up?

*by 'ship' I mean you would like to see them in a relationship of sorts / you like the idea of it, EVEN IF you don't necessarily think they already are in one or will ever be

I need a fanfic where...

It's post confession, and Dean is miserable. Sam's trying to move on and use the bunker to start something bigger. He wants the bunker to be the ultimate hunter resource - a safe-house, a library of neverending knowledge, a place to call when you need to get out of a jam.

These young hunters come in, and they're scared of Dean. He snaps quickly and isn't afraid to bite any hand that tries to feed him. People know to stay far from him. He's just a grumpy old man.

Then Cas comes back. And he does some small things like touch an item of Dean's, or touches Dean innocently (touch to the shoulder in passing, etc), or says something firmly to Dean

And all the new people just hold their breath like "Oh shit, he's gonna die"

And Dean just goes with it to everyone's shock. He still snaps at the other people, but Cas has an all-around pass

They see Dean get soft. More 'new' people come back to the bunker, and have to go through that same shock.

This post by @keircat7 got me on a long ramble about the whole Dean-Siren situation

I think this episode goes very in-depth toward something it claims it isn't.

Sirens are creatures that are known to seduce specifically men in order to prey on them. They morph into men's desires. It's said in this episode. It's common lore outside of the spn world, too. Even if that was all there was to this, the whole "what he wanted was a brother" thing still seems far-fetched. But that's not even all of it.

The men who killed their wives all had “crazy high” levels of oxytocin. The doctor explains that it’s produced specifically by sex “People call it the love hormone. You know how it feels when you first fall in love? That’s oxytocin.” Sure, levels rise from other forms of bonding, too, but the siren needs off the chart levels. Like the siren could get away with just kissing these men (as proven by the flask-sharing), but it's shown in the episode that it's having sex with them.

The siren says “I get bored. I want to fall in love again." If that's what it wants, why would it choose someone who wasn't gonna fall in love with it? Feels like both a waste of time and unsatisfactory for it. Plus why would it say this right after the whole "brother" thing? Feels contradictory. If it just wanted a connection, that would be one thing, but it specifically said "in-love".

If those last two are correct, and Dean is straight, it would've made so much more sense for it to be in a woman body. If Dean is bisexual, but prefers women, it still would've been better off as a woman. Whether or not Dean prefers one night stands with women is a whole separate conversation. This, at least proves that what Dean desires is a relationship with men.

Then there's all the sexual and romantic sayings. "Then we can be together" "Do it for me, Dean" "Now he loves me. He'd do anything for me" etc etc

And of course there's the one everyone loves to point out - Dean was so excited to have strippers within a case, but when he was at the strip club with the siren, he was too focused on Nick and their conversation, the women went unnoticed. He was more interested in bonding over Led Zepplin songs (which has other connotations in itself) than the strippers.

I think what Bobby said in the end of the episode matters too. “You boys gonna be OK?” Then he turns and walks away, looks back and locks eyes one last time with Dean. He says, “You know those sirens are nasty things. That it got to you, you shouldn’t feel bad.” I'm sure I could break this whole scene down further, too.

I was dumb, and deleted the whole thing, so let's hope I got it all. I feel like I'm forgetting something.
