synopsis: bakugou meets a stranger at a coffee shop, itโs not his fault he canโt keep his eyes off of you
tags: MAJOR ANGST, like literally i was planning fluff but then i couldnโt help myself and poured a BUNCH of angst
a/n: my 200 follower event is open!
wc: .8k

bakugou loved the jingle, the littleย ding-dingย of the bell hanging above the door to the coffee shop. it reminded him of laughter, of smiles, and of warm drinks on a cold winter night.
so when he finally applied and got that one job at the cafรฉ that had been open for as long as he could remember, he looked to bells, as if somehow they were behind this.ย
it was those same bells that brought him back from his stupor as he began to doze at the cash register.ย
bakugou sighed. it was precisely 9 am, the perfect time for hungover college students to filter in and order their daily cup of coffee.ย
i can't be sleeping on the job, he scolded himself, as he watched a young couple walk into the little shop. he immediately straightened, plastering on what he hoped was a welcoming smile, "welcome to UA coffee, what can i get you?"
the couple smiled in return, placing their order, a string of words peppered with small smiles and gentle laughs.
a few minutes later, bakugou placed two steaming cups of coffee and a chocolate croissant, smoke floating like tendrils from the bubbling surface of the drinks.
he attempted to smile, "have a great day!"
hoards of sleep-deprived college students soon flooded in, keeping bakugou busy and the coffee shop bustling with a kind of energy bakugouย despised.
he began to ring up his last order when he heard the bells above the door jingle. he internally groaned,ย not another customer, i'm almost off my goddam shift!
it's not like bakugou hated his job, but he didn't exactly love it either. he simply tolerated it, mostly for the money, but also for the fact that he got perks, like a free music subscription for spotify.ย
but when you walked up to the counter, eyes all bright and cheery, bakugou couldn't help but feel his irritation lessen.
great, another customer.
"can i order?" you asked, tilting your head up so you could actually see the towering man in front of you.
bakugou stuttered for a few moments, the words caught in his throat, "no- erm, sorry yes, yes you can."
"oh can i get a pumpkin latte with extra caramel?"ย
"sure," he muttered, already moving over to ready your drink.
he stops in his tracks, hesitant at first. your the only one in the coffee shop. he doesn't need to know your name, but he can't help the greedy part of himself, "can i get your name?"
"y/n" you laugh, "my name's y/n."
you laugh and bakugou isย hooked. he recognizes the sound, the familiarity shocking him cold. it sounds exactly like the bells hanging over the front door to the cafe.
as he poured the caramel like ribbons over the whipped cream, he watched from the corner of his eye as you wandered around the little shop, admiring the abstract art hanging on the walls.
it's not like he hasn't gone on his fair share of dates or fallen in love with his fair share of girls, but when he looked at you walking into this coffee shop, with your cheery eyes and warm personality, bakugou doesn't think he's ever felt this way before.ย
like a blanket wrapped around him in the middle of fall, or like the way ice cream feels on a hot summer day.ย
it feels like home.
he's not one for soulmates or the idea that some people were made for each other but bakugou just can't rip his eyes from you.
you with your flowy hair and your tinkling laughs.
he's finished with the drink but he can't bring himself to go to you, he doesn't know why.
but just like everything else, he takes a step forward, and another, and another until he's handing you your drink with shaking hands and nervous eyes.
"here's your pumpkin latte with extra cara-"
"thanks!" you're already grabbing the drink, eager to get back into your warm car with your even warmer boyfriend.
bakugou doesn't know, of course, but he's already panicking, already worried that he's said something wrong.
but he doesn't speak up. he doesn't ask you for your number. he doesn't even say goodbye.ย
he watches you walk away, and it feels like his soul is ripping in two. he doesn't even know you and he already feels empty and hollow, like a gaping hole has been dug in his heart.
bakugou replays every interaction and hates himself for it.
coward, he says,ย i'm a coward.
it's funny how two people can walk by within inches of each other and never realize the impact they've had on the other.
you may not remember that quiet boy at the coffee shop, but bakugou knows for a fact he'll never forget the girl who made him feel like he belonged.
no, he won't forget because every time he walks into a room, he'll look for her, for her eyes that remind him of fall, for her hair that reminds him of pumpkins and spice, and for the person who reminds him of home.

OMG TY GUYS SM FOR THE 2.3K REBLOGS!
๐๐๐ค๐ฎ๐ ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ค๐๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ค๐ข hated winter.
he'd always catch a cold and he hated having a cold even more than he hated winter.
when he found himself coughing and sneezing on a what would have been fun saturday afternoon, bakugou katsuki almost threw his thermometer against the wall.
he'd gripped it so hard his knuckles grew white, "stupid thing dosen't know what it's talking about anyway" he'd muttered, walking away.
precisely three hours later, bakugou lay in bed, watching the clock tick slowly, the minute hand brushing past the 8:00 mark with a speed so slow he was afraid he'd grow mad.
bakugou shifted in his bed, annoyed and so very bored. his blanket was itchy and dug into his skin, not to mention his runny nose and sore throat.
bakugou groaned as a fresh wave of pounding took over his head.
he was about to pop another ibuprofen in his mouth when he realized the pounding was coming from his dorm room, not his head.
bakugou wanted to rip his hair out.
why can't people leave me alone for one goddamn day?
"what the hell do you want, extra?"
when he didn't hear a reply, bakugou's eyes flew open in anger as he stomped all the way to his dorm rooms door, yanking the handle open with such force it almost broke.
"what. the. HE-" he cut himself off when he realized who was standing at the door.
you. oh shit, you.
bakugou softened his glare, but he still narrowed his eyes, "what are you doing here?" he eyed the items nestled in your arms, "and what is that?"
you rolled your eyes, used to bakugou's stubbornness, "are you gonna let me in first?" you looked up at him through your lashes, your eyes narrowed.
"no" he huffed, but he moved aside nonetheless, his cheeks tinged with the slightest blush.
"that's what i thought," you said, a crooked grin hanging on your lips, as you pushed past him, throwing your scarf on his chair, your jacket on his table, and the items in your arms on his bed.
"go ahead and make yourself at home, it's not like i live here," he muttered, rolling his eyes.
you can make yourself at home for all i care.
you laughed, eyes twinkling with an emotion bakugou had yet to place, "you and your insatiable temper." shaking your head you picked up the can of soup you brought with you, dumping it's content in the nearest pan.
bakugou watched in curious silence from his bed, his eyes tracking your every move in his pint-sized kitchen.
why did you have such beautiful hair?
why did your eyes glow like the stars he often saw from his own bedroom?
why did his heart skip a beat every time he saw you?
"what are you even doing here," he scrunched his eyebrows in confusion. why were you in his kitchen, cooking him a meal, when you barely even noticed him during class? it's not like he was perfect boyfriend material. he didn't have perfect blue eyes, or a dazzling smile. hell, he didn't even have a good personality.
so why were you of all people, worrying about bakugou?
bakugou fell back on his bed as he closed his eyes, rubbing a tired hand over his equally tired face.
god, even when i close my eyes all i see is y/n.
y/n, y/n, y/n, y/n-
bakugou's eyes flew open when he felt a gentle hand rest on his forehead. he scrambled up, confusion flickering across his features for a brief moment. he didn't even hear you walk all the way over here.
"you're burning up katsuki, you need to lie down." you raised an expectant eyebrow, shoving the bowl of soup you just made into his hands, "and drink some soup."
katsuki? KATSUKI??
bakugou rolled his eyes, as he shoved your hand away. "again, i'm fine, i don't need to lie down, i just need you to take your stupid soup and leave."
stupid, stupid, stupid! how could you be so goddam stupid? don't tell her to leave you idiot!
he closed his eyes waiting for your footsteps to fade away as you left, leaving him alone just like every other person ever did, but instead he heard a sigh and the thud of a soup container being put down.
bakugou's breath hitched as you carefully pushed him back, bringing his blanket up to his shoulders and wrapping him in it. "bakugou, you need to shut your idiotic mouth for one day and get some rest." you placed the bowl of soup by his bedside. "even the best heroes need rest, and I'm not leaving until the future number one hero recovers from his cold."
y/n called me a hero.
you waited a few minutes, watching as bakugou shifted around his bed, your less-itchy blanket covering him from head to toe.
after making sure he was comfortable, you turned around grabbing your coat, your phone clutched in your hand ready to leave, when bakugou spoke up.
"will you be here when i, uh, wake up?"
you stopped in your tracks, a smile growing on your face.
you turned around, as you placed your coat back on his desk, "that depends, will you listen to me and actually get some rest?"
bakugou stared at you, something swirling in his eyes, and then nodded, "there's leftovers in the fridge." his voice sounded gruff and foreign to his own ears, but he'd be lying if he said he wasn't smiling under the mounds of blankets you dumped on him. he turned around, switching positions so you couldn't see him smile lighting up his face.
maybe, just maybe, he'd begin to like winter if it mean you'd fuss over him like this every time he caught a cold.
after all, bakugou would do anything for you.
even catch a cold.
i kinda hate this one ngl, its too un-proofread for me :(

Could you write a Todoroki Shoto oneshot where Bakugou challenges the reader to a cooking contest in the dorm kitchen and Bakugou starts to realizes heโs gonna lose so he sends Todoroki in (by lying that she asked for him) in order to distract her cause they have obvious (to him) crushes on each other? You can decide if she does get distracted and almost burns the food or wins after realizing Bakugou ploy, either way I think we all know Shoto is the real prize! Thank you in advance!
omg ty so much for this request! i had so much fun writing it!
requests are open- send in your requests here
a/n: I PUT A SONG OF ACHILLES REFERENCE IN HERE~ LMK IF YOU FIND IT
๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐จ๐๐จ๐ซ๐จ๐ค๐ข liked to enjoy his saturdays by simply lounging in his room or curling up with a comfy book.
so when bakugou came barreling in, gasping and wheezing, todoroki couldn't help but display his annoyance.
"what do you want bakugou?" he sighed, closing his book and placing it on the table next to him. it landed with a soft thump, shaking the glass of water placed next to it.
bakugou gasped for air, "y/n needs you, i-in the kitchen," he snatched the glass of water gulping it down, "they need your help."
todoroki's eyes snapped up immediately, "what?" he narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing bakugou's shifty expression.
when bakugou refused to provide anything useful, he finally sighed, "let's go."
your hands were steady as you placed your batter in the oven. the oven mitts rested in your palm as you slowly and carefully slid the pan into place. bakugou stood no chance against you with your obviously superior baking skills.
but of course, the arrogant idiot had to declare a cooking competition to see who would actually win. you wouldn't be surprised if he ended up burning everything up instead.
you sneaked a glance towards bakugou's side of the kitchen, the messy cups and plates balancing precariously close to his unfinished and charred cake. a bubble of laughter escaped you, bakugou really sucks at baking.
left with nothing to do, you plopped down in front of the oven, watching your cake slowly turn golden, the edges hardening to a slight crust. it wasnโt until you felt a gentle tap on your shoulder did you lift your eyes from the cake.
two orbs, one blue one red, met your eyes, the familiarity startling you.
โtodoroki?โ your voice came out high and your eyes widened. he wasnโt supposed to be here. he couldnโt be here. you couldnโt bake if he was here, watching every move with his fox-like eyes. the mere thought of him silently observing you made your cheeks blush, a tinge of red spreading across your face.
stop being so flustered! he isn't into you anyway.
โy/n? do you- uh, need help with anything?โ todoroki rubbed his neck, his eyes searching yours for a reason you didnโt exactly know.
those pretty, pretty eyes.
โm-me?โ you stammered, โum no not exactly?โ you bit your lips- a habit you seem to fall back on every time you get flustered.
โyeah, i thought you needed help, uh-โ he gestured around the kitchen, โbaking.โ
you let out a nervous laugh, โoh right! i do need help with uh- uh-โ you looked around the room furiously, looking for a chore or anything that he could do.
โoh! you can do the dishes!โ you pointed to the sink, your voice coming out false and cheery.
he glanced at the dishes, disappointment flickering across his features, โoh, uh, alright.โ
oh god. why was he disappointed? did he want to do something else? but i didnโt ask for him? oh my god, what if he-
what if he thought that you simply wanted him to clean up your mess?
stupid, stupid, stupid.
that wasnโt what you meant at all.
you looked at him with widened eyes, โohmygod, ididntmeanthatyoudonโthavetodothedish-โ
โy/n.โ todoroki cut you off, his calm eyes searching for your frenzied ones.
hesitantly, you met his eyes, and- god, he probably thinks iโm so damn weird.
โi really lik-โ
suddenly, a sharp sound pierced the air, cutting todorokiโs words off.
the fire alarm.
you watched with horror as todoroki yanked the oven door open, bringing the cake- your cake, out of the oven. the edges were badly burnt and the middle was a molten mess of eggs and flour.
"no," you whispered, "no, no, no, no." you squeezed your eyes shut, willing yourself not to break down in front of him.
how could you have forgotten to take the cake out? it was so very stupid and it was all because of the boy standing next to you.
your shoulders began to shake, but you refused to cry, not when todoroki was still standing there. you could feel his eyes on your back, not exactly digging holes, but not exactly sympathetic either.
he hates me now.
you stared at your destroyed cake for a few more minutes before your ripped your gaze away from it, instead choosing to stare at the quiet boy behind you.
you gazed up at him through your damp lashes, and when you saw the guilty look in his eyes, you realized why he really was here.
"bakugou sent you here, didn't he?" the words came out jumbled, in a fast sort of way that reminded you of asking someone out. funny thing was, in both cases, you didn't want to hear the answer.
when he didn't respond, your lower lip began to quiver, and you clamped down on it, refusing to cry.
he stepped closer, bridging the startling distance between the two of you. gently, he brought his thumb to your lips, carefully pulling it out from under your teeth, "you shouldn't do that, y/n. you might accidentally bite down."
He leaned even closer, something you thought wasn't possible, until you could feel his breath against your cheeks.
"What i was saying, before the alarm rang, was that," he paused, searching for the words, "i really like you."
WHAT?!
your eyes widened as you ripped your gaze away from his, oh-so pretty eyes, his undisguised scrutiny too much for your flustered self.
he continued, "i know bakugou sent me here, but i-"
"i really like you too."
he stopped mid-sentence, and for a dangerous moment, you were positive you had imagined the whole ordeal.
but then he smiled, and it was like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.
he gave your hand a tender squeeze, "c'mon, let's go fix your cake."

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE 1000+ LIKES, REBLOGS, AND COMMENTS <3
night sky
Part 1 โข Part 2
๐ค๐๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ค๐ข ๐๐๐ค๐ฎ๐ ๐จ wasn't your boyfriend.
at least, that's what he told himself.
nope, he wasn't your boyfriend when he bought you your favorite snack after you failed your midterms.
he definitely wasn't your boyfriend when he held your hair back as you threw up all over his freshly cleaned car.
he refused to be your boyfriend as he walked you to prom, his arm linked through yours, designed to fit together perfectly.
truthfully, katsuki bakugo was afraid.
he was afraid of all those things and more.
he knew that if you ever saw past this perfect image of him, the one where he was at the top, where he was the best, where he never failed, he'd disgust you.
he'd frighten you.
that's why bakugo was careful. he was careful to never let that polished, shining, fragile, mask of his slip. he'd never let it crack.
so when you stood in front of him that bleak afternoon, the smile on your face so wide he worried it would split in two, and asked him to be your boyfriend, bakugo simply screwed up his face in disgust and sneered at you.
he had laughed at you, hurtful words spewing from his mouth like second nature.
inside bakugo wanted to scream. he wanted to break everything he could get his hands on. he wanted to set the world on fire.
you could never be his. not if he could help it. he'd could never let you be his.
he didn't deserve it.
you didn't deserve it.
you deserved so much more than a lonely, broken little boy.
you deserved the world.
and despite the fact that bakugo would do anything to see your face smile at him, to see your eyes light up at him, he could never be your world.
you were a universe apart.
and he simply watched from afar, a lonely, dimming star in your intricate, stupendous sky.
anyone want a sequel? i need to pump out angst im sorry~

Part 1 โข Part 2
๐๐๐ค๐ฎ๐ ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ค๐๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ค๐ข hated you.
well rather, he hated the way you made him feel; hopeful, happy, loved.
no wonder he pushed you away.
he'd pushed, and pushed, every mean comment, every snide remark, every angry glare serving as a wall to simply push and push.
you'd be disgusted if you found out who he really was. the fragile, scared boy hiding underneath his carefully built mask. his mask forged from the years he spent tolerating every cutting jab, every slicing insult.
he was broken and bruised and hurt and fragile and so many more things.
but most of all katsuki bakugou was scared.
of you.
how could a beating, joyous, heart love a damaged, fragmented, heart like his?
it had been two weeks since that day.
since the day bakugou took your heart, chewed it up, and spit it back out.
since the day bakugou had rejected you.
ever since then bakugou had wanted to come crawling back, hands begging, eyes apologizing. he'd do anything, anything to see your smile again. but he still couldn't shake the way your eyes had scrunched up, a a fresh wave of pain blossoming in them.
those beautiful, beautiful eyes.
they'd grow cold whenever they met his, in a hallway, in a lecture room, even his dreams.
bakugou katsuki didn't regret many things, not even pushing you away. but the moment he saw the pain and hurt swimming in your eyes, bakugou wanted to take it back. every. single. word.
he'd wanted to claw it right out of his throat, but he didn't. instead, he kept going, hurtful words aimed like knifes to your skin.
it's for the best, he'd tell himself, everyone's better off without me.
and only when bakugou saw the tears threatening to spill from your eyes, did he stop, the words ripped from his tongue in surprise.
his eyes had widened, and he reached one tentative hand towards you. he wanted to hold your face and tell you that he was lying. he was always lying.
but you flinched.
and something inside bakugou cracked.
perhaps it was a light, flickering in and out of a dying hope, or perhaps it was something more. perhaps it was his beating, pulsing heart. perhaps it stopped because it finally realized it could never be capable of loving.
he, could never be capable of loving.
**********
a week.
that's all it took for before bakugou saw you with him.
you were smiling.
you were laughing.
you were happy.
bakugou knew.
he knew right then and there.
so he walked right past you, his face as stoic as ever.
he barely spared you a glance, instead brushing past you like you were strangers.
that's when bakugou decided to go to the roof instead.
to stargaze.
there was something relaxing about looking up at a black sky to find hundreds of glittering lights.
it reminded him of you. of how you lighted up the world, his world.
he had tried, he really had, to be one of the meager stars in your delicate night sky. he couldn't be yours, not truly, but he wanted to be close. he wanted to see you every night and every day. he wanted to see your smiling face, your wandering eyes, your easy laugh.
but he'd gone too far and now it hurt too much. you were better than him. you deserved better than him.
the stars twinkled above him, mocking him with a sort of cruelty that only bakugou understood.
he walked to the door, suddenly angry with himself when he walked right into someone.
no, not someone, you.
you looked at him, and bakugou katsuki forgot how to breath.
he looked at your eyes and the sight still took his breath away.
bakugou took a step back, his heart rattling in the cage he'd built around it.
bakugou knew he should have left. he knew he should have done anything but what he was going to do. he knew he should have said anything but what he was going to say. but some small part of him still had hope. it still flickered weakly, like the stars shining just above his head.
"do you love him?"
he held his breath, eyes locked on yours, his hands trembling behind his back.
he had stepped closer now, his eyes looking at yours with such an intensity he was afraid he'd shoot lasers straight through.
bakugou gently placed a single strand of your hair behind your ear, his eyes soft, softer than you'd ever seen them before.
and for a moment, the world stood still. bakugou forgot the rooftop, forgot the stars, forgot himself. he only saw you. only you.
"yes."
it was whispered, and for a second bakugou thought he'd imagined you saying it; an echo of his imagination, a creation stirred up by the wind.
"yes," you repeated, eyes searching his for something, anything.
bakugou felt the last piece of his flickering light give out as he crumpled to the floor in a heap.
"i'm sorry," he croaked, his throat thick, as tears began to spill down his face, "i'm so, so sorry."
sobs racked his body as he wiped away the tears from his face. he watched through blurry vision as you walked away, just like that fateful day.
it was pitch black when bakugou finally found the strength to get up. his eyes had dried up by then, no more tears left for him to shed.
it was funny, wasn't it? the way the lights in the sky had all gone out.
just like the ones in his heart.
thank you for reading! :)

๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐๐ญ๐ซ๐จ sighed.
it was a full, satisfied sound, one that rang in your ears.
you smiled softly, his hair tangled through your fingers as he lay his head in your lap.
โitโs beautiful, isnโt it?โ he asked, his lidded eyes looking up to meet yours.
you nodded, too enraptured by the beautiful pink tinged sky up above to answer. the sky was flicked with streaks of oranges and pinks, the beautiful hues meshing together to create a breathtaking sight. fluffy clouds dotted the skies, as the trees around you swayed slightly with the wind. the late afternoon sky was slithering into a beautiful shade of light pink as the evening sneaked itโs way into day. your soft blanket crinkled underneath you as you shifted your weight, shaking your leg that fell asleep under suna.
suna sighed again, his head in your lap and an arm laying over his stomach.
you let out a small chuckle and your fingers ran through this hair, โwhatโs wrong baby?โ
suna took a deep breath, โitโs just that-that i canโt believe it. i canโt fucking believe that iโm here with you. why would you stay with someone like me, someone whoโs, whoโs broken and pathetic. i mean- fuck, when you could have someone better why me?โ you quickly glanced down at him, concern etched in your features, but his eyes were closed, his lips drawn in a line. โrin,โ your eyebrows furrowed, โyou donโt really think that do you?โ there was a pleading edge to your voice, a small uncertainty that suna had been feeling this way all along. he opened his eyes, words left unsaid, but everything you needed to hear was deep within the dark brown pupils of his eyes.
โrin, baby, no, i never want you to think that agin. youโre enough baby, youโve always been.โ
you trace the shape of his lips with your finger, as you smile down upon him.
โdamn it, rin, i love you. iโll never stop loving you, even if the monsters lurking beneath convince you that i donโt. your beautiful, rin, beautiful. and i love every part of you, broken or whole.โ
the sky had turned a deep shade of pink by now, the sun slowly sinking deeper into the horizon, but you and suna hadnโt moved a muscle.
sunaโs hand found itโs way to yours, his fingers interlocking with your nimble ones, โi still canโt believe it yโknow, that i landed a girl like you.โ he smirked, โoh well, i know iโve got the looks.โ
you laughed, playfuly pushing suna off your lap. โtry getting anybody like me with those looks,โ you rolled your eyes, turning your face to hide a smile.
suna pulled you closer, his breath tickling your ear, โyouโre right,โ he whispered, โi wonโt be able to get anybody like you.โ you stilled, the words sinking in your brain, a strange but familiar warmth spreading through your body.
the air grows chilly, as stars begin to peek out in the dusty orange sky. a comfortable silence blankets over the two of you as suna admires the sky, his chest slowly rising and falling with each breath. a few minutes pass before you gather enough courage to say the words, โi love you suna.โ

i forgot to mention the people who wanted a sequel ~ @neptunies @myshrecommends @multi-fandom-fanfic @iis4d @peachiikichu
Two Lies and a Truth Pt. 2
pairing: kuroo x gn!reader

synonpsis: kuroo told you he loves you. but for how long do you keep believing his lies?
a/n: this is the long awaited part 2, sry if its short! also kuroo has a gf (laila) but its still a reader insert
wc: 1.2k
Part 1 โข Part 2
Kuroo didn't expect it to be this hard.
When had relationships become so complicated? He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but god, Laila made him so tired. She always wanted the prettiest of dresses, the freshest of roses, the fanciest of meals.
Why couldn't she ever settle for something mediocre? He tried multiple times to gift her something from the heart, something that wasn't big, but you could tell from a glance it was well thought out and heartful. Both times, his gift often ended up broken or in the garbage.
Once, he tried giving her hand-picked roses from his garden that he had spent months tending to. He would never say it out loud, but a part of him cracked when she threw them on the ground, her foot mere inches from ruining their colorful petals. So here he was, at a flower shop, buying expensive flowers that would end up dead in a day or two.
~~
Ding, dong.
The small bell above the door rang as another man walked into the store. You immediately perked up, a smile plastered on your face. "How may I help you?" You asked, fake cheer in your voice.
The man's back was turned, but you could see the top of his head poking out through the tall aisles, "Just looking for some pink roses."
Despite yourself, you smiled. It was always sweet when a man brought roses to give to someone, "Of course sir, aisle three."
The man laughed, thanking you before turning around. That's when the air left your lungs. It felt as if a million shards of glass had pierced your heart, burying themselves deep within. Even glass wouldn't hurt this bad.
Kuroo.
Kuroo.
It took a moment for you to regain your voice, and when you spoke, the words came out stuttered and unsturdy, "Tet- Kuroo?"
His eyes widened ever so slightly before an unknown emotion filled them, "Y/N? I didn't expect to see you here." He let out an awkward laugh, his hand rubbing his neck. It was an old habit of his, one he could never quite let go of.
You gave him a tight smile, "Yeah, I got a job here." Kuroo nodded, his mouth forming words that were yet to be spoken. An awkward silence filled the room before Kuroo spoke; "I'm sor-"
"Don't apologize," your voice came out sharper than intended, and some small, buried, broken, part of you winced at his hurt expression.
Kuroo nodded once again, stifled hurt settling in his eyes. He turned around, walking to the door before stopping for a moment, "I understand, but, I just want you to know that..." he trailed off, searching for the right thing to say, "...that I'm not the same person." With that, he left, the door closing shut behind him, the swinging bells above the door reminding you of alarms ringing.
~~
"What?" you asked, a giggle threatening to climb up your throat. "Nothing," Kuroo answers, a grin hanging on his face. His hands were clasped behind his back, no doubt hiding something from you. "C'mon," you laughed, "Show me what's behind you're back."
Kuroo only smiled, shaking his head, "Not until you close your eyes." You rolled your eyes but closed them nonetheless, your curiosity winning. Straining your ears for any sign of sound, you grew impatient until something was thrust in your hand. Your eyes flew open to see a look of uncertainty on Kuroo's face, "Do...do you like them?" You glanced down to see beautiful white flowers held between your fingers. "Oh, Kuroo, they're beautif-"
"They only bloom once a year, and live for a single day." He cut you off, "I've been growing them in my garden ever since I found out." You paused for a moment, the weight of his gift hitting you, "Tetsu, thats-thats so sweet." Gently, you raised your hand, resting it on his cheek, "Thank you." When you glance back up, you can swear that there are tears in his eyes, but when he blinks it was as if his eyes were never moist at all.
"I love you."
~~
Ding, Dong.
The bells once again shatter you from your thoughts. Another automated response shoots from your mouth until you realize it's Kuroo again.
"I forgot to buy the flowers," he says sheepishly, his eyes cast away from yours.
Before you can stop yourself, the words that had burning on your tongue begin to fall. "Why Kuroo, why?" Kuroo stops, a puzzled expression forming on his face.
"Why what?"
"Why give me those flowers." When the puzzled expression doesn't leave his face, you begin to elaborate, "The white one's that bloom every year or something, the ones you gave me before you asked me to prom." Realization dawns on his face and his expression twists to one of pain, "I-"
"Why? When every word that spewed from your mouth was a lie, why did you give me those flowers? Was that a lie too?" You scoffed, muttering under your breath, "Who am I kidding, of course it was."
"She threw them away. Laila." His eyes were cast down, "I gave them to her and she tossed it. I spent a year trying to grow them. She knew how much it meant to me, but she wanted flowers from the best flower shop in town. I couldn't bring myself to simply throw away a years worth of hard-work, so...so I gave them to you." His voice begins to crack, and it's starting to sound like he's trying hard not to cry. "Don't you see?" He asks, desperation filling the cracks in his voice.
"See what?" You take a step towards him when his gaze suddenly flicks up, his eyes locked on you.
That's when you see the tears in his eyes, "Don't you see that I never lied to you? I meant every word! Please, Y/N, I made a mistake going to Laila. Please, I'm begging you! Listen to me! I got so scared, I-I was worried that I would mess up. So I cut things off with you, because you scared me. God, when I saw that look on your face when I gave you those flowers, I felt so complete inside." Kuroo stopped talking, his hands coming up to bury his face. He wiped his tears before speaking again. "When I saw that look on your face, and those flowers in your hand," He paused, taking a deep breath, "I fell in love with you all over again."
Your eyes widen, his words beginning to register with you. You wanted to jump into his arms so badly, you craved that familiar feeling. But, if the months of crying yourself to sleep and suffering smug looks from people at school taught you anything, it was that you couldn't go back to the past. Love was almost like a flower, you supposed. It could be in bloom, its leaves vibrant and full of life. But it had to be watered and taken care of. For if it was neglected, it would soon wither and turn into something rotten. And no matter how hard one tries, a flower can never be restored to its former glory.
You begin your words softly, kind and gentle, but firm in its own strength, "I'm sorry Kuroo, but I can't go back to you."

[๐๐:๐๐ ๐๐] - ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐

Suna knew.
He knew he should have taken an earlier flight.
Because then, if he had been there earlier, maybe you wouldn't have been gone.
Maybe, if he had cared more, you would still be here.
Maybe, if you were here, he wouldn't have been sitting in an empty bathroom at the airport, drying his eyes with two-ply toilet paper.
Maybe, if your arms were around him, he wouldn't watch his own tears fall on his phone as he looked at photos of you.
There were so many other things people wanted, a fancy car, a big house, a well paying job, but all Suna wanted - all he needed - was you.
He wanted your annoying laughter, he wanted your infectious kindness. He wanted your sparkling eyes and your curious lips. He wanted all of you and then some.
But then again, life never gave him what he wanted.
Pushing the door to his stall open, Suna walked outside the public restroom. His eyes were dull, red and puffy from all his tears. His clothes were wrinkled from sitting for so long, and his stomach rumbled from the hunger he had yet to satisfy.
If only he would have booked an earlier flight.
For the tenth time that hour, Suna opened his phone, scrolling to the last text he received from you, "I love you suna."
Before he could stop himself, he brought his hand to his mouth stifling a sob that yearned to be free.
He shut his phone, the screen going dark with a soft click. Then, before he knew it, he fell to his knees, his face buried in his hands, as sobs ransacked his body. His shoulders heaved as a current of tears slid down his cheeks, making his hands damp. Piercing cries slid from him, his eyes squeezed shut, too weak to stop the tears.
He had received the phone call an hour after your last text message.
"Please, please, you have to understand! She-She can't be dead! She's supposed to be alive! We-we were gonna start a family-" Suna's trembling voice shook, disbelief dripping from every syllable. The operator at the other end sighed, remorse evident in her tone, "I'm sorry sir, there's nothing we can do."
It took a moment for the words to register, and when they did, a sick, rotten feeling overtook him, "No," he breathed, tears stinging his eyes, "NO! You hear me, she can't be de- she can't be!" His voice cracked, as tears overtook his eyes, "Please, Y/N, please," his voice was a whisper now, too quiet for even the operator to hear.
"We're very sorry for your loss sir, but the pills were too strong, and she was too far gone by the time the paramedics arrived. The doct-"
Suna cut the operator off, his voice hoarse and soft, so silent the operator had to strain her ears, "Tell her I love her. Please."
"Sir," the operator began slowly, "She's dea-"
"TELL HER I LOVE HER! GODAMNIT JUST TELL HER-" Suna broke off crying, his chest heaving, "Just tell her that I love her."
Suna cut the phone off abruptly, his heart too scared to hear any more bad news.
He never knew if you actually got his message, but he just hoped you knew that he loved you.
Forever and ever.
It's been three years since you took your own life, and ever since then Suna's never been complete. There's this gaping hole in his heart that nothing could fill. Not job raises, not late nights partying.
He's trying not to cry as he stands above your grave, an assortment of flowers held together by a newspaper dated to the fateful day in the airport. He's staring at those words engraved in that dead block of stone wondering how he'd survived for so long without you.
Gently, he takes a step forward, his brown suit creasing. With shaking hands, he places the flowers on your grave. "I love you Y/N," he doesn't know who he's saying the words to, he just hopes that someone's listening, even if it's just the wind.
"I love you," he takes a deep breath, "Forever and ever."
