Chapter 18 for my timkon fic
It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time
Chapters: 18/20
Rating: Teen and Up
Wordcount: 55,582
Relationships: Tim Drake/Kon-El | Conner Kent, Kon-El | Conner Kent & Jason Todd, Kon-El | Conner Kent & Lex Luthor, Cassandra Cain & Kon-El | Conner Kent, Cassandra Cain & Jason Todd
Summary: Since as long as he could remember, it had always been Tim and Konner- a duo lumped together and never one without the other far behind.
But Tim was gone now- And Konner was left behind. Forced to keep living without his other half.
Wondering how the hell Tim survived when he was gone? Well, this is one question he gets answered via some of Tim's old contingency plans.
Tim couldn't live without even a piece of Konner, and well- they were always so alike.
AKA- I like the TimKon clone child trope, except this time Kon gets to play grief-driven mad scientist.

Crying, sobbing, I am so happy I got mentioned by my friend. Thank you!
Ok two things, because I’ve decided that since I’m starting to actually use tumblr and not just be lurking and that means that per the contract, I must address some things that I was really tempted to before. I apologize that it’s all gonna be on posts you made a While ago.
One, that post you made about the Batfam from the original timeline finding out Tim was dead. That killed me. Like I have been thinking about that for months. I still have a screenshot in my camera roll of the last line.

Two, the poll you made? of flipping heads or tales? Devastating. On one hand I live for the angst, but on the other I am so glad that we didn’t have Jason yelling at Tim for the pie. I would have simply been destroyed. I don’t know if I would have recovered. Ever since learning that was even an option I’ve been distraught.
Anyway just wanted to tell you how much I love the fic. It makes me what to bite them, but I’m scared I’ll give them rabies. I have fully reread it about 4 times now not including the passive reads. I feel like the words are ingrained into my soul. At some point I saw one of your post talking about how you have laid hints in the story I have been trying to actually absorb the words into my skin and blood stream. So who knows. Maybe at some point I’ll have a theory on what’s going on. But I am not very smart so i won’t hold my breath about it.
<3333333
Congratulations on using tumblr more!! Join the collective :D And no worries!! if anything I ADORE talking about older posts, the new takes, recontectualized shit etc.
The Jason with a shovel thing is actually something I nabbed from a friend @ihavenotsleptindays based on their fic i've been viciously obsessing over here because my god the implications were too fucking good and so so on brand I couldn't resist the brainrot.
I tend to do polls when im like "Yeah I think I know what I want but im not sure" because then watching the direction swing one way or another, I truly learn if I really WAS indecisive or if I was like "NO I WANT THIS ONE" and for heads and tails?? While Jason deserves a good yell- i'm happy how it turned out.
Again thank you so so much <33 And oh yeah, there are LOTS of things scattered throughout each of the chapters. One way ill contextualize it is theres an entire closet of Chekovs guns, some that have already been fired and just the powder and casing remain, others who i've yet to even load.
If you do have a theory id LOVE to hear it!! Feel free to ask/comment/dm but of course depending on the medium will vary how much I may or may not confirm/allude :)

all i want to do is write that one fic that takes people’s breath away and kinda lingers in the back of their minds. i want to write something that makes people want to make art and play with my versions of characters or in the universe i created. i want to be able to create worlds that feel real enough to walk into and write lines that stick with people until they forget where exactly they heard it because it lives in their bones now.

Oh, definitely, I agree. I feel like this is mainly a comic fan problem which I could understand if the characterization of Canon wasn't all over the place and constantly changing.
I tend to engage with very little of the actual comics because it tends to be a headache to navigate imo.
But I feel like it isn't just that we see ourselves in the characters. That definitely is a part of it, some of us just want to see ourselves in the characters. It's more than just that.
I feel like much of the time, comics clinging to the status quo often hinders stories. Sometimes they will bring in interesting elements such as Bruce's death which cause very interesting story lines however most of the time. It goes in insane directions because it comes back to the status quo eventually.
So that means Batman can be whoever they want and everyone will just forgive and forget. Tim's parents will always be the same, gone but caring and there will be not conversation about it. Even if conversations about that kind of situation would be interesting, about people who care but are never around. Damian having interesting relationships with others and finding interests outside of fighting.
The reason so many care about fanfic is to have these very personal stories comics don't because often it's too focused on the fight scenes to get us to care about the characters or is so latched onto Canon it won't do anything completely different. Part of the reason that WFA is one of the most popular comics. Because it tells personal stories about these characters who desperately need it
I keep seeing people complain about DC fanon and complaining how it’s so unlike canon…
Isn’t that kind of the point? The canon is so weird timeline-wise, many things are just completely forgotten even though they should have immense impacts, characters are completely different from one writer to the next and AUs are canon, more or less.
And then I see people complaining about the changes people make to the canon characters to make them their fanon versions (i.e. Bruce actually trying to be a good father instead of being an abusive POS that’s somehow still considered a great hero, Damian putting a large amount of effort into pets and his art in order to make him more relatable, Tim’s parents being absent and neglectful).
This is because these concepts are engaging to write about. Fanfictions are wish fulfillment; we want to read about how a sad, neglected boy finds a family that loves him. Because so many of us feel alone and we want a found family. We want to read about a man who tries, fails and tries again to be a good parent, eventually sort of getting it and managing to heal. Because so many of us have parents that don’t even try to become better, and we want to see them try. Because we might have trouble connecting to others and our best friends might be our art and our pets, and those can be a gateway to connecting to others.
Every change that’s made to canon is, 99% of the time, because we think a character’s story lines up enough with a wish of ours that, with a slight nudge, we can make it fit, and it gives us a cathartic sense of “yes! This is what I crave!”
Of course, this does not include racist, xenophobic or sexist stereotypes and characterizations.
