I wanna read a fic where Charles was born deaf and nobody notices (not even Charles) that there’s something else about him. Like, as a baby, he would only know the sound of his crying from other people’s ears.

Wiill the sound be processed differently in his brain? Would sounds have accompanying thoughts/impressions to it? At what age would he notice that something else is different about himself other than his mutation? What would music ‘sound’ like to him?

What if he heard a tone-deaf person sing, and they sounded perfectly fine while it was just the two of them, but then other people are present and he ends up hearing the same off-key notes they do?

So many things to be explored in this lol like how would meeting Erik be like? Or Raven? Or like would he be able to still hear himself if he was locked in a room with no one else around?

Edit: Will the way he speak be affected? His accent? Would he feel the same underlying impressions other people have when they hear Charles speak? Or would he think it was just part of his mutation (people thinking “posh” when hearing him speak).

If he was speaking to someone hard of hearing, would he automatically adjust to a volume they could hear? When and how would he realise he was born deaf?

Honestly, the show is like that one fanfic with really compelling and fantastic prose telling a really badly thought-out story.

It’s gorgeous to look at, but also incredibly mind-numbingly infuriating

Just a FYI, “What’s west of Westeros?” is a line that appeared only on the show in S6. Arya never said this in the books. Arya did say the following on the show:

“Can I be the Lord of a holdfast?”

and in the books:

“Can I be a king’s councillor and build castles and become the High Septon?”

Arya also like to sit at her father’s table and listen to him talk and learned how a leader should be. She was very social, talked to everyone regardless of class, and pack means everything. “When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives” features heavily in Arya’s POV and no one else’s. This “west of Westeros” bullshit does not fit book Arya at all and frankly, not even show Arya despite what the show runners did to her character.

For myself, and I think countless other fans, having read years’ worth of stories, the name ‘John’ really stuck as the Sheriff’s name. There’ve been several popular variations (Johnathan, etc.) in fics over the years, and sometimes you can date a fic based on the Sheriff’s name and know that it was written before majority of the fandom started using ‘John’.

So whenever I read a fic with ‘Noah’, it can be a bit jarring and take me out of the story before I just sub the name with ‘John’ in my head just so I can keep the Sheriff’s character and look in my mind’s eye.

It’s a small thing, but it reminds me of all the ways the show really shafted the fans.

His Name Is John

And it always will be. I will purposely choose only stories with John, or as I’m reading replace Noah with John in my head. Because that is his name.

And it always will be.

From someone who’s survived MySpace, livejournal, deviantart, and fanfiction.nets’ content purges and bad policy updates, here’s some advice on how to get through tumblr’s recent bullshit:

- don’t knee jerk delete. I know it’s tempting to peace out immediately but hang on and do the other steps first. Out right ghosting and erasing everything is how fandoms die.

- archive everything on your blog you want to keep

- tell your followers how they can archive and keep your work too. A lot of fic and art were only saved from ff.net and lj because other people saved it first. If you’re cool with other people saving your work for them to personally keep, let them know this. You can absolutely discourage reposting but I really do highly recommend you allow people to personally save fic and art they like and are worried will disappear forever. Digital Dark Ages are a real thing.

- tell people where you’re jumping ship to. Give links. Keep that info up, even if you’ve left the site.

- go through who you follow and find out where else you can follow them. Save their work if they’ll allow it. It’s tedious as hell but if you want to keep up with people on here clicking on their page to check in is the best way to do it.

- support places like ao3. This is exactly why ao3 asks for donations a few times a year. They are a 100% anti-purging, judgement free, ad free non profit run by an elected board and protected by lawyers. Places like ao3 literally save fandom so please continue to support them and other similar archives. This is exactly why ao3 is so important.
