wholeheartedly believe that price is the most jealous person in the 141. his boys mean the world to him; he'll be damned if he lets anything happen to them. it's bad enough that even small gestures have him reminding everyone. someone gets too close to ghost? he's immediately redirecting them and giving them something to do far, far away from simon. someone mentions soap's near-death experience? they're getting reprimanded and promptly told to fuck all of the way off. god forbid someone even looks at gaz with an inkling of disdain. and laswell? you don't want to know what he'd do if you disrespected laswell.

ghost would like to be the territorial type, but he doesn't know how. for over a decade he's had very little to his name, and he thought that he liked it that way. less to lose, less to mourn. that is, until now, when he has the 141 that he plans to keep for the foreseeable future. now, he's not sure how to be possessive when he has so little experience possessing.

soap is only jealous when faced with certain people or situations. graves comes around? he's snarling and baring his teeth. no, he doesn't know the person who keeps looking at ghost; he doesn't need to. he's going to yell at them anyway. why is price upset? was it because of that person standing over there? no? better tell him that, because he's actively marching over to them with about a hundred things to say. he grew up in a big family and made room for more, and he's damn sure not going to let a soul walk on any of them.

gaz is the least jealous of them all, but that doesn't mean he isn't just as protective. he's not going to pounce on anyone without a valid reason, but if he's given that reason? well, best of luck to you. people call him the most level-headed of the group, and while that's true, any and all attitude in his body is amped up to the absolute max. if he deems you harmful, you're going to run off crying. might as well make peace with that fact, because you're not going to be finding peace if he doesn't want you to.

the DR1 anime adaptation was indeed a Sparknotes version of the game, but i did enjoy seeing a few things in motion, because it gives us a bit more insight into the characters we know and love.

my favorite little detail, for instance, is that Mondo covers up Mukuro's body with his coat after she's kebabed:

i like to imagine that ghost realizing that he loved soap wasn't a big, dramatic thing.

it was like a test that you go through hoping for the best, and when you get the grade back and it's an A, you realize that maybe you did understand the subject after all. ghost protected and fought for soap, hurt other people, hurt himself, and never thought anything of it. not until soap finally confessed, and ghost quietly realized that, oh, yeah. that's what it was all for.
