s. black — how you get the girl [1/2]
*idea was given to me by @sunny-prongs !! <3
Pairing: sirius black x fem!reader
Summary: sirius has no idea how to get the girl this time.
Warnings: i actually suck at writing flirting, slightly ooc sirius?, i accidentally keep making all these gryffindor!readers so i apologize,
PART ONE, PART TWO (coming soon!)
Tumblr media
you weren't quite sure someone had made you feel so many emotions at once the way sirius black did. even when he'd enter the room, the ínstense emotions you'd experience being in his general vicinity was absolutely mind-boggling. not that you'd ever admit it.
sirius black was the one boy at school that everyone wanted, even if they didn't admit it. he was funny, he was unbelievably handsome, and he was admittedly smarter than he gave himself credit for. and dear god, did he know it...
the boy didn't exactly lack confidence—matter of fact, he may have too much of it. but that didn't matter, because everyone believed that yes, he deserved that confidence in himself. he earned it. he could breathe in someone's direction and they're instantly melt—he was inconceivably charismatic and likeable. even the professors admitted it so.
yet, the only person who didn't seem to think so was you.
not because you desired to be different from everyone else—because, unfortunately, you found him handsome as well and you found yourself day dreaming what it would be like to be loved by him. but because you saw the way he treated the girls he had flings with. you saw the way he'd be so indifferent to their attachment and infatuation with him. more noticeably, you noticed the way he never bothered to keep a consistent relationship with any girl he managed to seduce—if that was even the right word for it.
you didn't want that. you had seen so much of it growing up. you couldn't bare it in a potential romantic partner. so, you didn't. you didn't allow him to see the way you found yourself glancing at him, you didn't allow him to see the way you'd quickly walk away when he did something gentlemanly like hold the door for you, and you certainly didn't let yourself react to his many compliments.
and unfortunately for you, though you didn't know it, you were the one person he wanted that he couldn't have. not for lack of trying, but because you wouldn't allow yourself.
he watched you from afar, mischievous grey eyes following your every move—in a curious, desirable way. nonetheless, you looked at him for a split second before turning to resume your conversation with daniel mckinnon, marlene's older brother.
"anyway, you should talk to her, i'm sure she'll understand," you told daniel. he chuckled and sighed.
"i suppose so, thanks y/n," daniel smiled. he went to say something else, but he glanced behind you and bid you a kind goodbye—all before walking off.
you were left confused, until you felt a presence by your ear, likely because of the loud music booming around you. it was difficult to hear in the common room which held a celebration for the gryffindor quidditch team.
"he's always been good at taking hints," a silky voice whispered in your ear. immediately recognizing it, you turned around and raised an eyebrow at the eldest black brother.
"yeah, he is—something you lack apparently," you replied, glaring at sirius challengingly.
sirius grinned. "oh come on, princess, you can't be that way with me. you look great, by the way, is that a new dress?"
you glanced down, smiling slightly at the fact that he noticed. then you came to your senses and rolled your eyes, "i bought it last week, thanks," you replied monotonously.
"of course, doll," he smiled. you rolled your eyes, but he never faltered. you supposed there was an admirable aspect to it.
you took a sip of your drink, before looking up at him. "what do you want, black?" you demanded.
sirius laughed. "what makes you think i want something? what if i just wanted to ask how you were doing?"
"but you don't," you corrected. "which raises the question, as per usual..."
"fine, how about you let me dance with you...and if things go well, let me take you on a date next weekend?" sirius suggested, brushing loose hair from your face behind your ear.
you had to admit to yourself, he made you incredibly nervous. he was suave and handsome, and just the perfect amount of flirty without being uncomfortable to be around. he had a thing with calling you pet names that normally you'd cringe at the mention of, but when he said it, they didn't sound so bad. and dear god, when he subtly touched you, you felt like melting into the ground. nonetheless, you knew this was just part of his strategy to sleep with you. you'd seen it with other girls he interacted it, perhaps not to the extent he did it with you, but he certainly did it. you had to keep reeling in your common sense.
"in your dreams, sirius," you scoffed. quickly, before the other part of you could take it back, you walked off and immersed yourself into the party.
sirius watched you walk away, smirking like he had actually gotten you to say yes.
——
you waited patiently for your friend marlene mckinnon to return from quidditch practice before heading up to your shared dorm. normally, you preferred to be in your own room and on your own bed—but marlene hated being alone in the common room, as she was easily scared despite the tough facade she put on in front of dorcas.
a quick patter of footsteps rushed over to you, before they finally sat beside you. the boy, who you quickly and unfortunately recognized, kicked his feet up on the coffee table and put an arm on the couch, so that it was almost around you. you sat back and turned to him, narrowing your eyes at him. sirius grinned happily at you.
“you’re like a lovesick puppy, you know that?” you scoffed, crossing your arms. you knew it was all an act, but you could help the feeling of happiness it gave you knowing that he only really showed you this type of attention.
“only you bring out this side of me, did you know that?” he attempted, but you rolled your eyes and looked away momentarily. unfortunately for you, you turned to look at him again and your (e/c) eyes met his grey ones. and dear god, they were easy to get lost in.
“where’s your boy band? usually you four are attached at the hip,” you asked, genuinely curious despite your nonchalant tone. he smiled at you before replying, counting off the three in his fingers.
“remus is doing his prefect duties, james has quidditch practice, and peter is on a date,” he replied. “leaving me, all on my lonesome…with you, of course,” his smile brightened the room and it seemed like he knew it.
“surely you have something interesting to do,” you commented, liking the fact that you could at the very least have a conversation with him.
“none as interesting as you,” he grinned.
you chuckled. “okay, that was smooth, i’ll give you that one,”
“what’re you doing down here anyway?” sirius then asked, looking curiously at the book in your lap. you closed it, finding that perhaps a genuine conversation with him was worth having even despite the flirtations.
“waiting for marls, she hates coming into an empty common room,” you replied. “creeps her out,”
he smiled. “you’re a good friend, you know that?”
you turned to him curtly, smiling back at him—genuinely smiling back him. “thank you,” you replied.
your faces were inches away from each other, if even, and you couldn’t help but feel the slight tension. you wanted to pull away, you really really did. at the very least, he hadn’t tried anything.
he brought a tattooed hand to your face, pushing a hair behind your ear. he almost leaned in—or maybe you were imagining it. but then, common sense kicked you in the head and you cleared your throat.
quickly, you stood up and gathered your things. every nonsensical part of you wanted to stay and see where it would lead, and the other logical part of you knew better than to be so naïve. sirius was only interested because you had been so difficult to get, after he got with you—you’d just be another girl to him. you and any other girl at this school did not deserve that.
“yeah, i can’t do this,” you mumbled. without another word, you rushed up to your dorm. in your wake, you left a confused, mildly hurt sirius black on the couch. he could still smell your perfume and your bright smile was burned into the back of his brain like a prayer.
and for a moment, he thought what it would be like if he actually got to kiss you.
——
“i don’t understand,” marlene mumbled, stroking your head as you laid on her lap. you were feeling very dejected and upset after the whole sirius situation. “if you like him, and he more than obviously seems to like you, what’s stopping you?”
you sat up, situating yourself to look at marlene with a dejected look. “the principle, marls! you’ve seen how he treats every other girl here, these are nice girls who he would be lucky to have as his girlfriend! how do we know he won’t treat me the same? how do we know he actually likes me the way i like him?”
marlene sighed. “yeah, you have a point—i just hate seeing you so conflicted and upset, boys are so dumb,” she shook her head. you laughed, nodding in agreement.
“what if i talk to james?” marlene suggested. “if there’s anyone who knows him better than himself, it’s james,”
you groaned. “but then he’ll know i have a crush on sirius! and then he’ll tell sirius, and then sirius’ll know i have a crush on him!”
“true,” marlene huffed. “straight relationships are impossible,”
you laughed, shoving marlene. “shut up,”
——
“pads, maybe you should actually sit down and tell her how you feel,” james said offhandedly as he tinkered with a music box that lily gave him to fix. the two had only been dating for a few months, if that, and already it seemed like they have been together forever—in a good way, of course.
sirius, who had dramatically sprawled himself on the bed, lifted his head up to look at james. “what?! are you crazy?!” he exclaimed.
remus scoffed. “what’s so crazy about that? james did it and now he and lily are great together,” he closed his book, looking at sirius and waiting for his response.
“because…those are real feelings! i mean i’d have to explain everything to her, how i feel around her, everything and i just…no, it’s too gross,” sirius sighed. “of course i like her, i’m in love with her actually! but i can’t just tell her!”
peter and remus exchanged a look before peter quipped up, “so you’re afraid of rejection and vulnerability and commitment?”
sirius looked up and glared at him. “what? nuh uh!”
“yuh huh,” peter replied.
“nuh uh!”
“yuh huh!”
“nuh uh!”
“yuh huh!”
“face it pads, you have issues with commitment, rejection, and being emotionally vulnerable,” james shrugged, continuing to tinker with the music box.
“james and peter are right, that’s why you’ve never had a girlfriend—well, that and you’ve been in love with y/n since our second year,” remus added, raising an eyebrow at sirius.
“shut up,” sirius grumbled.
“you’re going to have to get over that if you want to be with her, marlene’s told me why she won’t go out with you—and frankly i don’t blame y/n,” james said.
sirius scrambled up from his bed, practically jumping onto james’ to sit in front of him. “they talk about me? what did y/n say? what did she exactly say?”
james shook his head. “you’re going to have to figure it out for yourself, i won’t betray marlene’s trust,”
“prongs, please! you’re my only hope!” sirius exclaimed.
“no, marlene told me in confidence,” james replied. “ask her yourself,”
sirius grumbled. “fine…”
“you are the most dramatic person i’ve ever met,” remus chuckled, “and mary once cried over breaking her nail, granted it had taken her a long time to grow out—“
sirius glared at remus, making the werewolf quickly shut his mouth.

r. lupin — strange [2/2]
Pairing: remus lupin x fem!reader
Summary: you know remus lupin now, and you love him anyway
Warnings: a little fast-paced, confident and blunt reader (?), awkward remus (?), pregnancy toward the end, physical punch (not intentionally violent)
PART ONE, PART TWO
Tumblr media
it had been weeks since your 'almost-kiss' with remus lupin. no one really knew about it from your side, because y/f/n knew better than to try and pry it out of you. despite what you tried to convince yourself, you were upset about it.
but remus still talked to you as friends, but nothing more. he never even mentioned the kiss or walking around the corridors. he just didn't. you acted as normally as you could, but it honestly only made it sting worse. especially considering james, sirius, and peter brought it up when remus wasn't around. you mainly pretended to be too immersed in whatever was at your best convenience.
yes, you had started hanging out with the mauraders. and they were becoming fast friends. you expected to feel the same connection you had with remus, but you didn't. it was strictly the same connection you felt with y/f/n.
remus was different. strange but different.
you sat in front of remus, who was diligently working. you were looking at him over your book, taking notice to a few things.
the bags under his eyes had gotten worse, much darker definitely. his usual ill appearance was looking worse as well, with him looking really pale.
as he wrote, his hand was shaking, as if trying to maintain focus too much. and his posture looked much more exhausted, like he hadn't slept in days. you had also noticed that he had been skipping dinner the past couple of days.
he was now impossible to read.
"remus?" you said softly.
he looked up at you, a concerned look on his face when he noticed the concern on your own.
"are you alright? you haven't been eating dinner, you look more tired than usual, you're visibly shaking—!" you rambled.
"y/n! i'm fine! just, stop worrying, okay?" he said in an reassuring tone, but to you, it was anything but.
"alright..." you trailed quietly.
you both quickly went back to your silent study session.
——
it had been approximately three days since you tried to confront remus, and he had now started to avoid you. normally, you would've left it alone, but this time...you couldn't. it was too much on your mind to even think away from it. seriously, you had started having dreams about remus falling so ill that he'd die.
so, now, you were in the library, looking up anything that it could be in a quiet, hidden corner of the library with stacks of books surrounded you, making you even more invisible.
"moony, are sure you can go to class today? today's the rough day, you can rest up for tonight—" sirius' voice said.
"i'm fine, pads. honestly, you're starting to sound like y/n. minus the part that she doesn't actually know." came remus' voice.
"wait, y/n noticed?" said james. you nodded, as though they could see you.
"yeah...so?" remus questioned.
"she fancies you, mate! that almost kiss that you really wanted wasn't your imagination!" sirius said. you felt a deep blush rise to her face.
no, i don't! you thought, i just care a lot for remus.
"look guys, just because i fancy someone, it doesn't mean they'll automatically fancy me back." remus said exasperatedly.
"still, she noticed, and she's a close friend now. lily knows, aren't you going to tell y/n?" james asked.
"lily figured it out. y/n hasn't and i hope she doesn't. i don't need her getting freaked out and never speaking to me again. i really fancy her, and even if she doesn't fancy me back, it's nice to have her in my life. so please don't say anything."
remus' words made you feel warm inside, but also jittery. he fancied you. the one person you could talk to about anything fancied you.
then it dawned on you. the extensive research. the worrying. the pretending. the way you could feel your heart jump every time remus smiled at you.
sirius was right, you fancied remus just as much as he fancied you.
replaying the conversation in your head, knowing the boys had left to class, you tried to remember anything that could hint to what exactly was going on.
'today's the rough day, you can rest up for tonight—'
today was november 25th. november of your seventh year...you tried to think of anything else.
'tonight'
'i don't need her to freak out'
'lily figured it out'
"miss l/n, while i appreciate how much you appreciate my library, you're going to be late. honestly, too many kids came in today," madam pince sighed, "something about the full moon makes people act funny."
full moon! tonight was the full moon!
"yes, i understand, madam pince, can i just have a couple of more minutes?" you asked quickly. she sighed, "very well. but get to class soon."
you nodded and stood up, waving your wand to put up the books you had checked out. you quickly rushed over to the magical creatures section, stopping at the vampire and werewolf sections, which were the most active creatures during the full moon.
remus wasn't a vampire. if he was, he'd have to have killed a couple of students by now. but he was too innocent to be a werewolf. he was so lean, but also gentle and kind. then again, he had always been so hard to read.
out of pure gut feeling, you grabbed the werewolves book. you flipped through it, before finally stopping one important section. you felt stupid, but didn't put too much blame on yourself, considering you haven't studied werewolves since your fourth year.
'Symptoms
• before full moon (days or exact day)
  - fatigue
  - override in senses
  - shakiness
  - restlessness
  - loss of appetite (unless raw meat)
  - paleness'
the list went on and on. it was starting to make sense. most of these described remus almost to the tee. it was like reading a book on remus.
remus lupin was a werewolf. and he was transforming tonight.
you wanted to tell him you knew, so that he didn't have to hide anymore from you, but you didn't want him to freak out on you.
sure, it was surprising to know he was a werewolf, but you have seen him get into an argument with james over stupid subjects. it was hard to see him as anything other than what you always thought he was. it didn't change.
"miss l/n!"
"going!"
you shut the book, pushing it back into its rightful place. you gathered your things, slinging your back over your shoulder, and took a deep breath.
and to class you went.
——
after dinner, you waited by the entrance to the gryffindor common room. everyone went in, and surprisingly, the last ones to enter were the boys you were looking for, except remus wasn't with them.
"y/n! what's up?" james asked, pulling you into a hug, as he usually did. you returned it, before quickly letting go.
you made sure no one was around before you finally gave the boys a deadpan look.
"i know."
"you know?!" the three of the sputtered.
"i know." you nodded.
"but are we sure she knows what we know?" sirius questioned.
"no, i know that you know that i know." you replied. you all blinked at each other, having become confused at this point.
"okay, listen, how do you—"
"i overheard you guys in the library. but don't worry, i'm not freaked out or anything. honestly, at least he's not a montrose magpies fan, we're good." you said. james nodded in agreement.
"i mean, there's a reason we have quidditch and that ruddy muggle sport football separated!" james whispered harshly. you nodded quickly in agreement.
"anyway, have you to told remus you know?" sirius asked. you shook your head, "i need help telling him. i don't want him to freak out and get upset that i know. i fancy him too, you know." you mumbled.
the boys smirked. "we knew it."
"are you going to help or not?" you asked in annoyance. james sighed, "listen, tomorrow morning you can visit him in the hospital wing. he usually spends a day or two there to make sure he's healthy."
you nodded understandingly. they bid goodbye, and headed to their dorms, while you waited outside for a moment.
——
the next morning, you brushed your hair and teeth, got dressed, and made a beeline for the hospital wing. james was waiting outside already, but right as you were going to enter, madam pomfrey stopped you.
"mr. potter, you know that mr. lupin only allows three visitors." she said promptly.
"but madam pomfrey—"
"mr. potter." she interjected sternly, "she simply cannot come inside unless she is injured."
you took a deep breath and turned to james. you thought of solutions, but only one thing came to mind.
"punch me." you said bluntly.
"what?! no! i'm not—"
"just do it, james!"
"no! why would i—"
"oh my god! just punch me!" you exclaimed. you could see james panick internally, but he gave you an apologetic look, and swung at you with his fist.
it collided with your cheek, and damn it did it hurt.
"ow!"
"i'm sorry! i'm so sorry!" james rambled, you shook it off.
"it's fine. am i allowed inside, madam pomfrey? this'll leave a bruise for sure." you remarked. she huffed and nodded, going to the back.
you and james shared an accomplished look, but you quickly rushed over to remus, who was lying down.
before you could think about it, you pressed your lips to his, cupping his face gently.
you quickly pulled away. "i'm glad to see you're alright..." you trailed nervously, not meeting his eyes.
he gaped at you.
"...also, i know your secret." you added quietly.
"but don't worry! i still fancy you back! in fact, it's not really that bad! well, i'm sure it's not ideal, but i still see you as the same person i fancy? wait, did i say that out loud? forget that part, but i still see you as the same remus—"
he laughed, "just kiss me, you idiot."
you smiled and kissed his face repeatedly, mainly going for the scars if possible.
"yeah mate, she's a piece of work. made me punch her just so she could see you." james chuckled, "also, y/n, you have very strong cheek bones."
you waved him off, pulling remus into another kiss.
"okay, we should probably go..." sirius trailed. james chuckled and dragged the other two out.
finally, you pulled away and sat down next to him. he chuckled, looking at your cheek in concern.
"does it hurt?" he asked.
you rolled your eyes, "remus. poor sweet, innocent remus. i got a plate to the head. don't tell him, but james hits like my baby cousin."
remus laughed, clutching his stomach. you grinned, feeling a sense of relief.
"i can't believe you made him punch you when you could've faked an injury."
"oh shut up, it seemed reasonable at the time."
bonus;
you began to stir the potion, watching your baby play in his playpen. you finally took out the stirrer and used a pipette to put some of the potion in small vials. your husband wouldn’t need much of it, but you had made a large batch anyway. you never wanted him to go without the one potion that actually made him feel better.
despite being horrid at potions at times, you’d do anything to help remus, even going as far to make a potion that was more than just complicated to make.
remus’ footsteps descended from the stairs, before making his way inside your kitchen.
he came down with a small smile, trying to hide the fact that he was so obviously tired and hungry. it wasn’t as though he could keep much down. if it wasn’t raw meat, he felt like he would vomit.
“hello, my beautiful wife,” he smiled, kissing your cheek gently. he rounded the island and picked up your baby boy, tossing him and catching him. he held him close, your son bursting into a fit of giggles at his dads antics.
“remus, put our baby down and eat or so help me god—!” you began irritably. although you loved your husband, being pregnant with your daughter didn’t exactly help your mood swings of irritability.
“sorry, buddy,” remus whispered loudly to your son, “your mummy happens to be very strict,”
“she’s a piece of work,” he told your son, making you roll your eyes and fight back your smile. “but she’s my piece of work, you’ll find your piece of work one day,”
“hey, james warned you when you met me! you knew who i was!” you replied.
he put your son down in his playpen again, grinning at you as he rounded the corner and brought you close to him. he kissed your head, brushing your hair back.
“of course, why do you think i married you?” he grinned.
“very suave,” you chuckled. “eat your damn soup,”
“yes ma’am,” remus grinned, kissing you swiftly.

r. lupin — strange [1/2]
Pairing: remus lupin x fem!reader
Summary: you meet remus lupin, who is different than you expected
Warnings: a little fast-paced, confident and blunt reader (?), awkward remus (?), that’s all tbh lmao
PART ONE, PART TWO
Tumblr media
you know the saying 'don't judge a book by its cover'? you hadn't ever taken it seriously. not really anyway. you never really judged people, but you assumed things about them just by appearance. usually, you happened to be right about people.
so, you never took the saying seriously, who cares? you surely didn't, because you were right almost all the time and it was like heaven to your ears being told so. you had formed your own opinions on everyone, and your own assumptions on everyone, thinking you were right.
that was, until you assumed things about remus lupin, who undoubtedly was the most attractive and brilliant boy in your year.
——
"come on, y/n! you've got to come to the game!" your best friend, y/f/n, groaned. you shook your head, taking another bite of your breakfast.
"too loud." you managed to say through your chewing.
"you're too loud with your obnoxious sleeping! you say things about beating up your grandma and hexing your cousin!" y/f/n exclaimed, rolling their eyes.
you huffed, swallowing your mouthful of food, and looked up at y/f/n. "fine, i'll go, as long as we root for gryffindor." you said. why gryffindor? just to fuck with y/f/n honestly.
y/f/n hesitated for a moment, before sighing loudly and nodding.
you grinned, finishing your breakfast in peace.
——
time of the game had arrived, and you were sitting in the stands, watching as the ravenclaw captain and gryffindor captain, james potter, shook hands. y/f/n sat next to you happily, marveling at the game about to commence in front of her.
you didn't really like coming to these games, because it reminded you that while you enjoyed quidditch, you weren't any good.
also, it was really loud.
"and the game begins!"
"more like my headache begins..." someone mumbled from your other side. you glanced at them, quickly realizing it was remus lupin, a boy in your year.
he was the notorious bookworm and sane prankster in his little mauraders gang. he was quiet and smart, but if needed, he could easily use it to his advantage. you could tell by the way he'd whisper things to james potter or sirius black. they'd use any information to get the better of anyone. but really, it's most of what he was. prankster, smart, bookworm, quiet, and good.
you chuckled, "yeah, same."
he smiled at you, before turning to the game in front of you. you did the same, resisting the urge to glance at him.
after a moment, he started speak again.
"so, which team are you rooting for?" he asked, his eyes following james potter, who was diving for the quaffle.
you were doing the same. "gryffindor. same as you, i suppose."
he nodded, "yeah." he chuckled.
james dove for the quaffle, but before he could reach it, the ravenclaw chaser threw it to another ravenclaw chaser. marlene was closer, and she dove for it, but james started to too.
"no! get near the keeper post!" you and remus shouted, which was directed at james, despite it being drowned out by the chatter and cheering everywhere else.
you turned to each other, smiling. "you're into quidditch?" you both asked. you laughed and nodded.
"yes, i am." you both synchronized again. he laughed, and shook his head slightly.
"wow, that was creepy." he remarked, glancing at the game for a moment. you nodded, laughing quietly.
"yeah...by the way," you said with a small smile, "i'm y/n. y/n l/n." you extended your hand politely.
he took it, shaking it politely. "remus lupin." he replied, smiling softly. you could've sworn your heart skipping a beat, but you being you, you ignored it.
"so, when did your obsession for quidditch start?" you asked, smiling at him. he thought for a moment.
"when i was around four or five." he replied, smiling back at you too. you nodded, taking in his words.
it was likely he liked the sport but wasn't any good or was unable to play.
"wow, mine started when i was actually introduced to the sport. which happened to be around eleven or twelve." you said.
he grinned at you, "you're a muggle-born?"
you nodded with a small smile, fearing he'd somehow make a rude remark. though, you knew he wouldn't, but it was weird...he was getting harder and harder to read.
"awesome! my mum's a muggle." he added, resting his gaze over the field. james was now throwing the quaffle to marlene. the seekers were zooming around. the beaters were doing their usual business.
"so, if you like the sport, why don't you play?" remus asked. you blushed a little but laughed quietly.
"because i'm absolutely horrid at it. no doubt that i'd fall off my broom if i tried to." you replied, shaking your head. remus chuckled.
"wait, so you've never actually played?"
"no, and i don't plan to."
——
"and gryffindor wins!"
the statement had almost flown past you and remus. the two of you were so into your conversation and getting to know each other, that it almost seemed that everything else was gone. it was only the two of you.
that was until y/f/n started screaming and cheering.
"oh! we won!" remus exclaimed. your eyes widen and you both shot up, cheering loudly. not that it was any difference to the rest of the stands, minus slytherin's and ravenclaws.
everyone quickly returned back to the castle, but a lot of students started toward the gryffindor common room, as they team had announced a party to celebrate. y/f/n being one of those who wanted to go, they was trying their best to convince you to go.
"please! please! please!" they pleaded, batting their eyes at you. you shook your head.
"what's this i see? a girl doesn't want to come to our party?" a teasing, male voice said. you and your friend took quick notice that it was sirius black, who was strutting toward you two. not only that, but potter, pettigrew, and remus were following quickly behind. you felt your heart skip a beat when you saw him.
"yeah, black! you've got to convince my poor friend to come! who knows how insane she'll get all alone?!" your friend said dramatically, causing a blush to grow on your face from embarrassment.
"wait, you're not coming?" remus asked, looking at you directly. you met his eyes, now noticing how warm and welcoming they were.
"well...no. i had enough noise for today." you said, chucking nervously. james and sirius scoffed.
"nonsense! c'mon, l/n, join us at the party. i'm sure an old soul like you can keep remus company." sirius joked, nudging remus. he got nudged back even harder.
"see, y/n! c'mon!" your friend begged. you went to object again.
until remus spoke.
"yeah, just join for a bit, y/n. like sirius said, you could keep me company. if it gets to be too much, i'll escort you back myself." remus suggested, "deal?"
you tried to hold back your smile, but seeing him smile proudly at himself for having come up with the best suggestion, it happened anyway. finally, you heaved a 'tired' sigh.
"deal." you replied, sticking out your hand, shaking his.
y/f/n, black, potter, and pettigrew all looked at you and remus in shock. but neither of you noticed. you were slightly focused on each other.
"alright! well, it's done then! c'mon moony, we've got things to do before they join us." james said, winking at both y/f/n and you. remus nodded, smiling at you one last time before disappearing with his friends.
y/f/n turned to you with a smirk, nudging you teasingly.
"so...remus huh?"
"shut up."
——
you were right. it was awfully loud. the only thing keeping you sane right now was drinking firewhiskey slowly. remus sat with you, taking notes from a book. why? you had no idea. how he worked in such noise? again, you had no idea.
"how are you doing that?" you demanded as nice as you could, gesturing to his note-taking. he chuckled and shook his head.
"when you dorm with sirius and james, nothing fazes you anymore." he replied, closing his book and turning to you. both of you were sitting on the couch, with you holding your cup in one hand, and the other arm resting on the top of the back rest. he was now facing you, grinning at you.
you laughed, "and that...does not surprise me. it's like dorming with me."
remus furrowed his eyebrows, "oh yeah? why's that?" he asked, taking your cup and taking a sip. you grinned, biting your lip in amusement.
"well, according to y/f/n, who is probably over there grinding with your mate black right now, i like to say things in my sleep. like beating up my grandma and hexing my cousin type of phrases." you confessed, giggling quietly.
truth be told, you were quite the assertive person.
remus let out a laugh, throwing his head back. you grinned even wider, feeling a sort of pride knowing you made remus lupin laugh.
"what've you got against your grandma?" remus asked. you shrugged, "who fucking knows. give me a sip?"
he brought the cup to your lips, tilting it upward so you could drink, before finally bring it back down. this had to be at least your second cup, but you were never exactly a lightweight.
"how are you so far? with all of," he gestured wildly around him, "this?"
you shrugged. "it could be worse. i'm just waiting for y/f/n to get tired so we can leave."
remus nodded, his face falling slightly. idiot! you thought, he probably thinks you don't want to be here with him!
"but being here with you, pretty much makes this whole situation even slightly tolerable." you said with a smile.
his happy demeanor quickly returned.
"so? how are the lovebirds?" james' teasing voice asked. you laughed as remus rolled his eyes and glared at james.
"oh!" james glanced down at the cup in remus' hand, "you're even sharing drinks. that's quite intimate! you are using protection, right?" he winked at remus.
"fuck off, prongs." remus huffed, making james' smirk grow.
"only joking, moons. say, y/n, accompany me to dance?" james asked, turning to you innocently.
remus shifted uncomfortably.
you glanced at him before looking back up at james. "nah. thanks though, potter. i'd definitely try your luck with lily though." you replied.
james smiled at you. a genuine, happy smile. one that you rarely saw on him unless he was with the mauraders or lily evans.
"don't mind if i do. take care of mooniekins for me, will you?" he said. you smiled lightly and nodded.
"of course, potter." you replied. remus smiled at you, though you hadn't noticed it.
james strutted off, toward a certain head over heels redhead.
"hey lupin?"
"yes?
"how's about we get out of here?" you suggested, winking at him. he smiled, "alright, l/n."
——
you two had walked down corridors together, talking about anything and everything. it was the sort of thing that happened once in a lifetime. when two people just...clicked.
you figured now would also be a good time to make connections. life-long ones perhaps. given that it was your seventh year and your only life-long friend was y/f/n.
"so, remind me again why your cousin thought it'd be a good idea to throw a plate at your head?" remus chuckled. you narrowed your eyes at the memory.
"because they're a bloody bitch. that's why." you grumbled. remus laughed and ruffled your hair, considering how much shorter you were compared to him.
finally, you stopped by a statue, spinning around to look at remus. he looked amused but stayed quiet.
"so, this is bold, but i feel like we've connected quite a bit." you said. he nodded, patting your shoulder awkwardly, "agreed."
yeah, he is definitely awkward when it comes to connections and feelings, you thought.
you took a step toward him. "well, you're interesting, 's all i wanted to say, i guess."
he smiled and looked down at you. you just now realized how close you were, feeling his breath on you.
this was definitely a different type of connection.
you both started to lean in, but then he stopped, and pulled back. you furrowed your eyebrows slightly, looking at him concerned. he fidgeted with his hands before finally meeting your eyes.
"i'll—i'll see you around." he mumbled, walking off quickly.
you stood there, frozen. you had almost kissed the boy you had connected with more than anyone you had ever met. he wanted to kiss you too, but he suddenly pulled back. you had tried to think of words to describe this. but their was only word you could think of clearly.
strange.

j. potter — tutoring
Pairing: james potter x fem!loner!reader
Summary: james potter is failing potions and you seem to be his only saving grace
Warnings: nothing tbh, i may have based reader off of me a little too much so i apologize for that in advance 😭, also this is kinda all over the place but i hit a writers block and thought this was cute
Tumblr media
james potter sat boredly in professor slughorn's office, counting the brinks on the ceiling of the dungeon. he had been waiting for at least fifteen minutes and if he waited one more second in silence, his head would explode.
slughorn, within the next minute, finally entered the office—clearing his throat and sitting in front of james with an air of seriousness. james sat up straighter, waiting for the professor to begin speaking.
"mister potter, we need to seriously talk about your grades in this class," slughorn began. he opened his desk and pulled out many of james' half-assed essays, most of them marked with d's and p's. james groaned quietly, throwing his head back.
"if i didn't know any better, i'd think you were doing it on purpose. but i know you, mister potter," slughorn continued, "i know you've always had a rocky relationship with this subject. what's been going on lately?"
james frowned. "i can't focus, okay? it's like trying to sit through a lesson in the middle of a quidditch match, i'm too...i dunno, distracted?"
slughorn nodded. "i see... have you talk to your parents about this?"
"no, and you can't tell them," james rushed out. "i don't want to worry them, they worry easily,"
slughorn sighed, covering his mouth as he reviewed all of james' essays. he thought for a moment, which only piqued james' curiosity. slughorn glanced between him and the essays, before leaning back in his chair.
"i can arrange you a tutor, one that can help you with this problem..." slughorn finally said. james lit up, hoping and praying it was who he thought it was.
"lily evans?" he asked hopefully.
"no," slughorn replied. james lost slight interest, but nodded anyway. "and if i arrange this for you, i want you to take this seriously..do you understand, mister potter? or else i'll be forced to tell your parents,"
james nodded in agreement. "of course, sir, thank you,"
if james potter was anything, he was respectful. his mother had taught him that much.
"if i may ask, sir, if it's not lily evans—who is it?" he asked curiously.
slughorn smiled warmly. "i'll let you know soon,"
——
you tapped your foot anxiously, glancing at your watch with a frown. you didn't necessarily have anywhere to be, but it sure irked you when someone was late. not to mention, you definitely felt you should've said no when slughorn approached you.
but you were ever the people pleaser.
as you turned to throw your stuff in your bag, you suddenly saw a tall, lean boy throw himself into the seat in front of you. you stopped your actions, looking at the boy in front of you with slightly furrowed eyebrows as he breathed heavily and looked disheveled.
"you're five minutes late," you commented, scanning him over as he tried to adjust himself comfortably.
"i know, i know," james sighed. "i apologize, really, i had no idea how long that other thing would take,"
you tried to be a hard ass, but the boy seemed tired as it was so you softened up a bit. you softened your expression, but not too much that he'd notice, and nodded. "i understand,"
he looked at you shocked, but you ignored his gaze as you pulled out your textbook. additionally, you pulled out a spare parchment and your secret weapon. he did the same, except he pulled out a quill instead of a spare piece of parchment.
"slughorn told me your problems. i understand," you continued. he scoffed.
"you're the smartest in our year, how could you possibly understand?" james asked.
you blinked at him. "because, i happen to have the same problem. now, i'm not sure if you have trouble focusing in general or if you just suck at potions, what i do know is that i can help—unless you don't want me to and slughorn will be forced to tell your parents..."
james looked at you in disbelief. "he told you?!"
madam pince shushed him from the other side of the library and he sunk slightly in his chair. you nodded, keeping your gaze on him.
"he did, to let me know how high the stakes were for you," you replied. suddenly you placed two metal marbles on the table in front of james, to which he raised his eyebrows at. he glanced between you and the marbles confused.
you nodded toward the marbles, "well? pick them up..."
he reluctantly picked them up, watching you as you pulled out your own set. you opened your textbook and his to the same pages, before looking at him again.
"this won't fix the problem," you explained, "but it may help. your problem is lack of concentration right? you feel like you have to be moving while sitting in that chair, like you cannot keep your mind on one thing?"
james stared at you and nodded. he had never heard someone describe it well for him, and he wasn't much a man of words so to speak. "yeah, sorta like that, i suppose,"
you nodded. "good, we may be dealing with the same problem then," you picked up your set of the metal marbles and began moving them in that hand. they clinked together and made a satisfying sound as you kept going with the motion in your hand. "do what i'm doing and hold that same hand under the table—but do not stop moving your hand and the marbles,"
he obliged, following your exact instructions. thankfully, the noise wasn't so loud that it distracted anyone else in the library—it wasn't so much as noticeable to others either.
"now, we'll read the textbook, do some notes, i'll help you write your essay and we'll see if it's easier for you, sound good?" you asked.
"yeah, yeah, sounds great," james replied quickly, a small smile blooming on his face. you didn't seem so amused, but to be fair, james wasn't sure he'd ever seen you amused.
"great! any questions?" you asked, before you started.
he nodded. "yeah, sorta. why did you agree to help me?"
it wasn't necessarily an out of the blue question. for as long as you and james had known each other (and that was used lightly), he'd never really seen you around anybody. you avoided people it seemed. you seemed to find comfort in solitude, always studying alone, eating alone, walking alone—not that you ever seemed upset about it. sure, you had friends here and there, but no one permanent. you never seemed to care much for it, you came here for academics, that's all it seemed.
moreover, he'd never really seen you display big bouts of emotion. maybe a smile or chuckle here or there, but rarely. he'd never seen you cry or laugh aloud, he'd never seen you do a lot of things. maybe you did, maybe he just didn't pay attention enough. nonetheless, he was a bit curious. you seemed to avoid everyone, him especially.
you knew the question was coming. you knew why too. it was because you weren't very social and you were often irritated. you never hung around anyone and you certainly never joined parties or quidditch games. it was difficult for you, you struggled with showing emotions and socializing with others. you couldn't control it and you certainly couldn't help it, and no one really seemed to stick around to figure you out. but that was fine, you supposed anyway.
it certainly was not fine, despite trying to convince yourself. it was a lonely way to live and your family was worried, despite them not admitting it. you just buried the lonely feelings, hoping that maybe it'd change one day.
"how do you mean?" you asked. what if you were just a nice person? would he even accept that answer?
"i mean, what's in it for you? surely you have better things to do than tutor me," james quickly said, likely thinking carefully about what he was saying because truthfully, you both knew that no, in fact, you didn't.
"nothings in it for me," you replied, shaking your head. "i just decided to help, i guess. is there something wrong with that?"
you weren't trying to be hostile. you were genuinely curious.
"no," he replied. "there isn't,"
"good, now let's start," you said, offering a small smile.
——
weeks had passed, tutoring session after tutoring session passed by quickly. you and james met on tuesday afternoons and thursday afternoons. you began to enjoy his company, even if you knew he was being forced to attend. unbeknownst to you, he quite enjoyed the sessions as well, even looking forward to them each week.
you had both figured out how to best figure out james' lack of attention span in potions and he begun to get better grades, but nonetheless you both agreed to keep the tutoring sessions going—to 'keep his grades up'.
james sighed, closing his textbook and placing the metal marbles you had gifted him on the table. "can we take a break? if i read one more word, i'll throw up on the table," he whined.
"dramatic," you replied, "but okay, ten minutes,"
"you and i should get a snack, recharge our brains," james suggested cheekily, hoping you'd say yes.
"yeah, no thanks, i don't trust that stupid smile on your face," you replied.
"you'd think after all our time together that you’d trust me by now,” james sighed, shaking his head in feign disappointment. “so untrusting, n/n,”
“n/n?” you questioned.
“my nickname for you, you like it?” he grinned.
you chuckled, smiling as you rolled you eyes at him. “okay, whatever…”
james grinned, “oh! do i get points for making wednesday addams laugh?”
you dropped your smile and glared at him, rolling your eyes playfully again. he huffed, “geez…sorry…”
“go get your snack and then come back, we’ll pick out some other potion books for review, sound good?” you asked, raising an eyebrow at him. he grinned again, nodding like an excited little kid. you snorted and waved him off, fighting and failing to hide your smile as he rushed out of the library.
within twenty minutes he was back, following you as you put books back and grabbed new ones. you and him were chatting quietly, as you walked down the aisles, mainly focusing your attention on the books you were looking for. however, you paid close attention to the subject, given it was a topic he brought up often: why you were so uptight about your studies.
“well, potter—“ you began sternly.
“hey, i gave you a nickname! where’s mine?” he asked with a dramatized frown. you rolled your eyes playfully, hiding your slight amusement.
“as i was saying, potter, i’m uptight because i like to be prepared. frankly, i hope you pass your o.w.l’s because given how unprepared you are, i am praying for the best,” you replied sarcastically, noticing as he smiled at your joke.
he always seemed to understand your jokes.
“our o.w.l’s aren’t for another eight months,” he replied, getting a book from a high shelf as you tried to reach it to no avail. he handed it to you.
“exactly! you need to study for them now! you need to prepare!” you replied, putting a book back as you spoke.
“you are so uptight,” he chuckled. “some things you just need to…go with the flow. expecting the unexpected is no fun,”
you turned suddenly, smacking a book to his chest, thinking he’d grab it before it hit him. you laughed aloud, covering your mouth to muffle it, and he smiled back mockingly.
“how’s that for expecting the unexpected?” you grinned.
“shove off, n/n,” he scoffed. “you’re so corny,”
“and prepared,” you added, swiftly turning around to keep walking.
unbeknownst to you, james smiled at you genuinely while you were turned, your genuine laugh echoing in his head. he’d certainly make more jokes just to hear it again.
——
“well, this is our last session before break,” you smiled. “think you’ll be able to handle life without me for two weeks?” you joked.
“i think i can manage,” he teased back. you rolled your eyes, allowing a smile to grow on your face.
he smiled, pulling some out of his school bag swiftly. “actually, i wanted to give you something before we left, to thank you and for christmas,” he said kindly.
you furrowed your eyebrows. “you didn’t have to get me anything, potter,”
he rolled his eyes. “i wanted to, alright? and now you have to accept it,” he smiled. he slid over the small box toward you. it was wrapped in cute christmas wrapping paper, tied with a sting into a small box.
you took it gingerly in your hands, opening it carefully. you carefully tore the wrapping off and opened the small navy blue box. as you opened it, you held back your gasp as you took in the sight.
it was a beautiful silver bracelet, with butterflies placed in between the chains. the stones that filled in the butterflies were a beautiful pink color and it shined beautifully.
“james…” you gaped. “i don’t know what to say, thank you..” you smiled, pulling it out of the box and handing it to him. “will you clip it on me?”
he nodded and obliged, taking notice to how your eyes never left the beautiful bracelet. you looked up at him, tension filling the air as you watched him slowly clipping the bracelet onto your wrist. he smiled as your eyes connected, and for a second, you felt your stomach get all jittery.
“i’ll mail you a gift, seriously, this is beautiful,” you smiled. “thank you..so so much,”
somehow, it was very easy to smile around james potter.
“you don’t have to mail me anything,” james replied.
“oh please let me,” you pleaded, “i’ll feel so bad if i don’t,”
he smiled, “fine, alright, if it’ll help you sleep better at night,”
you grinned excitedly and pulled out a piece of parchment so he could write his address for you. he did it quickly, handing it back to you promptly.
——
you hadn’t been quite sure what to gift a boy who had everything he’d ever wanted. sure, you could get him something quidditch related, but it didn’t seem personal enough. you had wanted to give him something meaningful and sentimental.
you racked your brain for hours, trying to find the perfect gift. eventually, you settled with new quidditch gloves but even then, that still felt impersonal. so, you had begun to think back to every interaction the two of you had shared and landed on the perfect addition to his quidditch gloves.
you wasn’t quite sure how you had landed on the subject but you two had, so you scoffed and leaned back in your chair.
“fine then, what’d be your wish come true?” you asked james.
“to see you make a different facial expression?” james suggested. you swatted his arm quickly, making him retract it. “ow! i’m serious! sorry, but talking to the same facial expression every tuesday and thursday is scary! it wouldn’t exactly wound me to see you smile every once in a while…”
a different facial expression.
you quickly grabbed the family polaroid and enlisted your sibling to help you take the perfect picture of you smiling. once you were satisfied, you packaged it with his other gift and wrote a little note, explaining both gifts to him.
and that left you where you were now, back in the library with james, studying out of your potions textbooks. you noticed him pull it out and open the page quickly, as he had stuck something in between the pages.
you looked at intensely, trying to figure out what it was. then you quickly recognized it.
“is that me?” you blurred before you could stop yourself.
james looked down at whatever you were looking at and blushed, though he hid it well. “yeah, one of my gifts remember? you remind me of potions class, so, i use it as a bookmark,” he replied casually.
unbeknownst to you, he just really loved staring at the photo. you had a beautiful smile and it was a shame you didn’t show it more often.
you smiled warmly. “oh okay…”
“lovely bookmark, isn’t it?” james smiled, admiring the photo. he hadn’t meant to flirt, but he wasn’t exactly regretting it.
you chuckled. “i suppose so…”
bonus;
“daddy, how’d you know you liked mommy?” you seven year-old daughter, alison, asked as you set dinner table. it was james’ turn to cook tonight, so he held your toddler on the counter by him as he pulled dinner out of the oven.
you and james glanced at each other, smiling at her innocent yet curious questions. you stood there, watching as james turned to your daughter with a smile.
“well… i remember when i saw your mommy laugh for the first time,” james said honestly. “i instantly fell in love, i knew i’d marry her some day… i wanted to hear her laugh for the rest of my life,”
alison smiled. “mommy, what about you? how did you know you liked daddy?”
“well,” you recounted, “i remember every time i spoke to him, i smiled all the time. i was so happy around him and i knew i’d always be happy around him,”
alison nodded, smiling. “that’s cute! i hope i will know when i like someone!”
you looked at james, smiling as he ruffled your daughters hair, and like always, you felt your heart flutter at the sight of him. you felt like everything in the world was okay.
you looked back at your daughter with a smile. “trust me, sweetness, you’ll know.”

l. evans — ever so doting girlfriend
Pairing: lily evans x fem!gryffindor!reader
Summary: you and lily were polar opposites, but it really was true love
Warnings: mentions of homophobia, injury, mild make out sesh, pregnancy (toward the end), i love lily evans so much <3
Tumblr media
lily evans was an angel sent from heaven. she was kind and beautiful and intelligent and caring. she said please and thank you and she hardly ever swore. that's not to say she couldn't hold her own, because the red head proved time and time again that no one should ever try to cross her. nonetheless, she was organized and responsible, being mature enough to care for those around her in the maternal way she loved to.
you were anything but.
now, that's not to say you were some idiot who couldn't care for themselves, but you never did exactly the best job. you were unorganized and forgetful, you hardly ever spoke a sentence without a curse word thrown —often times, multiple of them. you were reckless and hot-tempered, and you hated dealing with anyone around you if they were being annoying—a straight hex doing the trick in your book.
so, when you and lily began to date, it was clear to all of your friends who exactly was the more responsible one.
lily sighed quietly. "y/n, is your homework done for potions?"
y/n gasped quietly. "fuck, we had homework in potions?"
lily sighed and let out a giggle, before joining y/n on the floor in front of the couch. she leaned on her shoulder, wrapping her arms around her arm and placing her chin on her shoulder.
"what ever will you do without me, l/n?" she teased.
y/n leaned and brushed their noses together, before leaning back a bit and smiling. "crash and burn?"
lily laughed and grabbed the bag from the couch, pulling out y/n's parchment and quills and inkwells. she quickly reminded her of the homework assignment, and as y/n began her homework, lily started to read her book as she leaned on y/n.
y/n quickly finished up her work, having lily there made it easier to focus. her body and mind could relax and overall, get things done easier. as soon as the assignment was finished, she put her things away and pulled away lily's book.
lily frowned. "i was reading that..."
y/n repositioned herself and straddled lily's lap with a small grin, "don't give a shit..." she teased. "i'm bored and i think we should snog,"
lily grinned and put her hands in y/n's hair, finding a few knots that she easily untangled with her fingers and slightly messaging her head. y/n leaned her head slightly in lily's hands, exposing her neck to lily.
"that feels great," she mumbled, her eyes fluttering closed.
lily chuckled. "i know, i'm amazing,"
y/n scoffed playfully, "as if, evans..."
within moments, y/n put lily's hands down and leaned in, pressing her lips gently to lily's. lily didn't care for the gentleness and instead kissed back harder, pulling y/n closer by her waist. y/n smiled into the kiss and wrapper her arms around lily's neck, pulling back to observe her girlfriends beautiful face.
she had sparkling emerald green eyes, and pale skin that was littered with faint freckles. her lips were slightly swollen, from the intense kiss that they just broke apart from. her red wine hair was loose and framed her face, making her all the more beautiful.
"you're so beautiful..." y/n mumbled, lighting up at the way lily smiled warmly.
"i could say the same about you, love," lily whispered back.
they leaned in to kiss again, but before their lips could touch, a familiar voice exclaimed their names loudly as he entered the common room. he made his way over to them by the couches and fireplace, seating himself beside them in the loveseat.
"there you two are! l/n, evans, how are you two lovebirds?" james potter asked kindly, however, judging by the twinkle in his eye—he didn't quite care about the pleasantries.
y/n sighed and removed herself from lily's lap, leaning her head back onto the couch cushion. "what's up, jamie?"
james chuckled and looked to lily nervously before turning to y/n, fidgeting with his hands. "so, we're down a player for tomorrows game..."
lily shook her head. "absolutely not..."
y/n put a hand up to stop her, "well, wait, let's hear him out..."
james sighed. "edwards is out for tomorrows game, he accidentally set a potion off and he's going to be in the hospital wing for at least three days. i really need another chaser for tomorrow and everyone else i asked said no because we're playing against slytherin but i really need you to say yes because if i don't win—regulus won't ever let me forget it!" james rambled.
y/n snorted. "why'd you make that stupid bet anyway? you know better than anyone how competitive your boyfriend is..."
lily nudged her a bit strongly, putting a finger over her lips as james' eyes widened and he look around cautiously. "not so loud," lily reminded her, "remember?"
y/n nodded apologetically. "right, sorry, james. anyway, of course i'll do it,"
lily gave her a exasperated look. "what? no! it's dangerous and i swear those people have it out for you!"
y/n and james exchanged a look. of course people had it out for y/n, she and james both knew that. ever since she and lily came out, it's been nothing but that—which is why y/n opted to be a sub instead of on the team this year. as to not let lily catch on, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep it from her.
"you're just overthinking it, evans! quidditch is a bloody, aggressive game! everyone comes out with a few bumps and scratches," james said gently.
y/n turned to lily beside her and placed a hand on hers, which were resting on her lap. she stared her e/c eyes into lily's emerald green ones. "i'll be fine..." she reassured.
lily looked unconvinced, but she nodded anyway and sighed. "okay...but promise you'll be careful,"
"i pinky swear," y/n grinned, holding out her pinky. lily smiled and took her own pinky into hers, sealing their 'deal' with a peck on the lips.
excitedly, james quickly rushed y/n out of the common room, babbling on and on about how much they were going to practice before tomorrows match — which frankly sounded more than tiring.
lily frowned, but settled back into the couch and waited.
——
the next day came in a split second. y/n had practiced with james all afternoon and evening, stopping for a second to have dinner. when she went back to her dorm, she showered and found lily already asleep in her bed.
as she awoke, marlene was applying her makeup and lily was changing. y/n looked at the time and sighed in relief.
"why didn't you two wake me?" y/n frowned.
"we figured you were tired, i know how james can get," marlene joked, walking over to her closet to grab her quidditch uniform.
"i barely even saw her," lily commented off-handedly.
y/n pouted, walking over to lily and cupping her face with one hand and placing the other on her hip. "i'm sorry, lils, i promise i'll give you all of tomorrow together. we can even sneak out to hogsmeade..." she suggested with a smirk.
lily frowned. "that's against the rules..."
y/n grinned and cocked her head. "so?"
lily couldn't fight her smile anymore, giving in as her lips turned upward and she placed a kiss on y/n's nose. "fine, we'll go,"
y/n nodded in approval and went to grab her old quidditch uniform, quickly changing into it.
the game came by quicker than they had thought, and before they knew it, y/n was on the pitch with the team and lily was sitting with remus, peter, and mary in the stands.
y/n flew slightly above ground, watching below her as james made his way and shook hands with regulus, as they were both captains to their respective teams. she noticed james whisper something to regulus, making the other boy scowl playfully as a blush arose to his cheeks.
y/n laughed quietly at the sight of the cold, mean slytherin prince blushing at something james potter had said.
"i want a clean game!" madam hooch bellowed from a few feet back, "ready...go!"
suddenly, the game began. the quaffle was thrown into the air, landing within marlene's grasp. the blonde grabbed the quaffle and flew toward the slytherin goal post. two chasers from slytherin noticed this and rushed in to stop her, but y/n rushed forward and took the quaffle swiftly — throwing it into the goal post, successfully dodging the keepers hands.
"woo! y/n!" lily and remus cheered. meanwhile, peter and mary were too entranced to say anything.
the game continued smoothly, both james and y/n scoring many points with the help of marlene while sirius did his best to smack the bludgers back at the slytherin players. he was also subbing, given one of their usual beaters had to mend his bones slowly after the last quidditch game...
y/n raced forward, grabbing the quaffle from marlene and threw yet another goal into the post. the slytherin chasers glared angrily at her but she just gave a cocky grin and flew off.
as the game continued, y/n started to remember how much she enjoyed playing quidditch. though she was never as much of a fanatic as james, she was in love with the sport. so much so, she started focusing on the quaffle and ignoring everything else around her.
but then, the worst thing that could've happened did happen.
"y/n! DUCK!" james bellowed.
y/n didn't even get a chance to turn and look at whatever james was motioning towards before—
THWACK!
a sharp pain seared through her abdomen as she flew back into the ground. her broom was no longer in her hands, so she was free-falling... right in front of everyone. marlene screamed her name and tried to flew over to her, attempting to catch her.
but it was too late.
y/n hit the ground, hearing some of the slytherin beaters laugh and say terrible things that she didn't get the chance to reply to because suddenly:
everything went black.
———
"will you be quiet?! you're going to wake her!"
"oi! you're going to wake her with all the caressing you're doing!"
"james, i'm not very happy right now so shut your mouth!"
"hey! he feels bad, okay? he didn't think that—"
"reg, don't get me started on your team!"
"yes ma'am," the two boys synchronized.
y/n groaned, suddenly finding that her limbs were quite heavy and her stomach and back were sore. she peeked her eyes open for a split second, before shutting them again due to the brightest light she had ever witnessed that had invaded her sight.
"oh, she's waking up! reg, go get madam pomfrey!" lily rushed out, pushing y/n hair back from her face. she let out a relieved breath, grabbing y/n hands gently.
"lily?" y/n said, finally opening her eyes and attempting to sit up.
and attempt which failed and hurt like hell.
"yeah, love, it's me. don't move you'll strain your back more," lily replied warmly, pushing her back down gently.
"yeah, i'm going to listen to you because this pain might be worse than childbirth," y/n groaned.
"not that i'd know," she added.
lily giggled, pressing a soft kiss to her girlfriends temple. "at least your remember me, that's a good sign,"
"it couldn't have been that bad, lils," y/n scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"no...ms. evans is right, ms. l/n—you took quite the fall,” madam pomfrey said suddenly, making y/n jump from surprise at her sudden appearance. “we’re all very luck your spine was mostly still intact,”
“not to mention the internal bleeding you could’ve had,” madam pomfrey added.
“internal? isn’t that where the blood is supposed to be? frankly, what i’m hearing is that i’m fine!” y/n grinned, “come on! james, pull the bed up so i can sit!”
james sighed, looking guilty as lily glared at him. he made his way over and positioned the bed so that y/n was in sitting position. y/n tried to had the grimace from them, as she was in fact not fine…
“no, miss l/n, you’re going to have to be on bed rest for the next four days, nonnegotiable,” madam pomfrey said sternly. “and given that i must sleep some time, and just this once, miss evans has been excused from classes so she can keep you company. am i clear?”
“no! look, i am fine! i’m more than fine!” y/n exclaimed, because frankly, she didn’t want to be bedridden for the next four days. she’d simply go crazy with boredom.
“mhmm,” lily hummed in disbelief, “raise your left arm for me?”
y/n tried to, she swore she did, but the arm was so heavy and sore—it truly was no use. lily and madam pomfrey were right.
“fine,” y/n grumbled, crossing her arms.
———
lily quickly slid y/n’s pajama pants up her legs, making sure they were straight and comfortable. she pulled her hair back and grinned, wiping off the make-up that she had put on her earlier with a clean wipe.
y/n grinned, “look at you being the doting girlfriend,”she teased.
lily rolled her eyes, kissing her head. “someone’s got to, since you won’t,”
“lily, i don’t even want to be here. i want to be in our dorm, you reading books while i pluck my eyebrows,” you frowned.
“i know, i do too. but for right now, this is what it has to be. at least i’m here, right?” she asked hopefully.
“yeah, that does make it better,” y/n smiled.
there was an uncomfortable silence, and y/n knew it’s because lily was dying to ask something. something that she didn’t know if it was the right time to ask. it was eating her alive inside, that much y/n knew.
“what’s up, lils?” y/n mumbled, grabbing lily’s hand gently. lily looked up at her, biting her lip.
“why’d you agree to sub? you know how dangerous it is…” lily asked. she wasn’t angry, she wasn’t even curious—she was concerned.
“truthfully?” y/n asked. lily nodded. “i miss it. i miss being up in the air and being part of a team. i miss quidditch and i miss winning games…”
lily frowned. “why did you quit then?”
y/n sighed. “because…i didn’t want you to worry,”
“worry how?” she pressed.
“you know what people think about us when they see us holding hands and kissing each other…the other teams were starting to get really aggressive about it. i knew that if i didn’t quit and stay safe, you’d worry…i didn’t want you to worry..” y/n explained, clearing her throat as she felt a ball in her throat. she blinked away the fast approaching tears.
“you did that for me?” lily asked, pushing her hair once again out of her face. y/n nodded.
lily sighed, standing up and beginning to crawl onto the bed with y/n. she faced her, helping y/n turn so she could face lily too. she kissed her passionately, but still carefully so she didn’t hurt her.
lily pulled back and smiled, “i never want you to make yourself unhappy because of me, i never want you to quit something you love because i might worry…okay?”
“i’m going to love you and worry about you and care for you all the time, y/n, it doesn’t matter if you’re in the quidditch team or not. as long as you’re happy, i won’t ever make you quit something,” lily added. “so, join the team next year and make it your best one yet, okay? i’ll be there at every game, party, practice—whatever you want, i’ll be there,”
y/n felt tears escape, laughing as she felt lily’s hand hold her own. “do you pinky promise to wear my jersey number?”
lily laughed and nodded, “of course,”
“thank you,” y/n whispered, kissing her softly.
“for what?” lily asked, furrowing her eyebrows slightly.
“for being the angel you are.”
bonus;
“how was practice, love?” a very pregnant lily Evans asked as she waddled into the living room, where y/n currently stood. y/n smiled at her wife, kissing her.
“it was good, i think i pulled a muscle in my leg though…” y/n frowned.
lily grinned knowingly. “how about you and i get into the bath and i’ll brew a potion to help with the pain?”
“sounds good to me,” y/n grinned.
“okay, hold on, i have to pee first. i swear, we should’ve just used some random guy’s sperm—this baby is biologically half james and he likes to kick bladders,” lily grumbled.
“i’ll make you a tea,” y/n chuckled.
“you are so carrying the next baby,” lily groaned as she waddled into the bathroom.
y/n laughed. “don’t worry, i plan to!”
she walked into the kitchen, where she and lily had set up a chalk board that they wrote on every so often. currently, it was being used as a way to write down some baby names for their growing baby boy.
she looked at the new addition, one lily must’ve scribbled on this morning after she left for practice with her teammates. she smiled and circled it.
harry was a very cute name.

s. black — the herbology weakness
Pairing: sirius black x fem!potter!reader
Summary: being james potter’s little sister was tough, it was even tougher when you had a crush on his best friend
Warnings: she’s so in love it’s school girl crush, fluff, angst toward the end, mentions of death
Tumblr media
being james potter's little sister meant one of two things. one, you were pretty popular, and it helped that you were beautiful and smart as well. two, you weren't allowed to fancy his best mates. more specifically, his best friend, sirius black.
usually, you didn't complain, you didn't care, you could care less than not caring. that was until the end of their fourth year, when you realized that you were falling for the one and only. which was hell all on its own, no need to add on the fact that if he did fancy you back, you wouldn't be able to date.
now, you were in your fifth year, while your brother was in his sixth. over the summer, sirius had moved in after his family disowned him, and it made your crush worse, but in all, you were glad he was safe. as of right now though, you were in the library with lily evans, your best friend since your second year, a friend you had acquired with a funny story.
you had introduced yourself, using your full name, and at first she was about to turn you away, thinking you were exactly like your brother, but you quickly proved her wrong. all you did was politely ask if you could sit and talk with her, considering your brother had left you in the dust to join his friends. she quickly accepted.
james, of course, was jealous.
"y/n? you there?" lily chuckled, waving a hand in front of your face. you snapped out of your daze, and chuckled, nodding at her.
"what? are you thinking about black again?" lily teased quietly. she had been the only one to find out about your crush, though she did tell you that everyone could see it besides your brother and the boy you fancied himself.
you shook your head quickly, feeling a blush grow. "no! just thinking about exams this year." you replied nonchalantly.
lily sighed, "they're not so bad." she replied quietly. you felt a pang of guilt, knowing that time period was a touchy subject. sure, james and sirius had humiliated snape, but what you had done after finding out what he called lily was much worse.
you smiled, grabbing her hand gently. "hey," you said softly, "it's his loss."
lily smiled reassuringly and nodded. quickly, her sadness faded. "you're right. anyway, we've got more—"
a thump interrupted her words, making you both snap in the direction of the noise. it had been at the entrance of the library, where you two were near, but slightly hidden.
"padfoot! come on! focus! what's got you all unfocused? we've got pranks to execute in a couple of weeks." a boy with messy hair asked, looking at the handsome boy beside him. sirius shook his head, "nothing, mate, nothing."
remus chuckled, "a certain lady got your interest, pads?" he asked.
you felt your heart sink, despite not hearing sirius' response yet. if he was in love, it surely wouldn't be you. the thought alone made your heart break.
"moons, st—"
"n/n! hey! what are you doing?" james said, walking over to you, swooping down to kiss your head.
one thing about you and james, you grew up with tons of affection, so this was common between the two of you. not to mention, you two were only a year apart and rather close — despite being polar opposites.
"hey, jamsie. i'm just here with lily. what are you mauraders up to?" you asked, smiling at them, pretending as though you hadn't heard remus before. sirius beamed back at you, making your smile grow.
"practicing for DADA and stuff. real material here. want to join in, evans?" james asked, his genuine kindness actually seeping through.
lily, however, shook her head. "no thanks, potter. i've got to get back to common room anyway, some other time?" she suggested. you and sirius shared a look, impressed by her much kinder words.
james smiled and nodded. "yeah, alright."
lily gave him a small smile, and gathered her things, walking off. finally, when she was out of earshot, you and sirius broke.
"wow! she was actually nice to you!" sirius said, giggling like an idiot.
you chuckled, "yeah! she even addressed you by potter and not a toerag!" you added.
james scowled at you two. quickly, remus stepped in.
"alright you two. enough teamwork. let james have his moment." remus chuckled. james grinned, patting remus' back. "thank you, moony."
"anytime, prongs." remus breathed out, patting james' back as well.
"aw, it's all in good fun. right, love?" sirius said, looking to you for reassurance. you paused for a moment. he hadn't ever addressed you as love. but, perhaps he was getting accustomed to being part of the potters.
you took a subtle deep breath, nodding and smiling. "right you are, hon." you replied. he smiled at you, but worrying you'd blush or give yourself away, you looked down at the book in your lap.
james narrowed his eyes at the two of you, but said nothing. remus and peter struggled to fight the urge to just yell out about your feelings for each other.
"so, y/n, how's studying coming along?" remus asked.
you groaned, "don't even get me started! i know all of this stuff, i know i do, but i'm afraid that i'll forget it as soon as i get to the exams! now, herbology though, it's a nightmare. i know nothing."
"why are you studying so early anyway? it's barely january." james mumbled, shaking his head at you. you glared at him, but turned back to remus, who had a small smile on his face.
"well, if you'd like, i can help you study? i mean i've taken the exam so i know what to expect." remus suggested. you grinned, "yes! of course! please!"
sirius crossed his arms and leaned against a bookcase, rolling his eyes at the two of you. remus pretended not to notice, while you stayed oblivious.
"okay! why don't you come to our dorm on saturday? the boys will all be at hogsmeade so we'll have the dorm to ourselves." remus suggested. you nodded with a bright smile, "yes! of course! thank you so much!"
you threw yourself at him, hugging him and kissing his cheeks gently. he hugged back with a laugh, then let you go so you could get back to your common room.
once you had left, james overcame his shock.
"are you planning on being in a dorm alone with my little sister? are you mental?! no!" james exclaimed. madam pince scowled and shushed him loudly before walking off.
"yeah! you're insane if you think we're gonna let you be alone! i mean what exactly are you thinking? you alone with a beautiful girl like her?!" sirius exclaimed. madam pince shushed him again. james didn't seem to notice sirius' comment.
remus rolled his eyes. "calm down you two! i've got a date with someone on saturday, i was actually hoping sirius could fill in."
sirius glared at him, knowing what remus was doing, but james hadn't, and probably would never catch on.
"why?" james asked dumbfounded.
remus sighed, "if you haven't noticed, she's mainly studying herbology, her weakness. it so happens padfoot is spectacular at herbology. get where i'm going with this?"
"oh..." james stretched out the 'o' sound, nodding slowly. "well, i suppose that is pretty reasonable. as long as pads doesn't make any moves."
sirius scoffed, "as if." he told them. remus gave him a look, to which he ignored.
sirius was utterly in love with you. it started in the beginning of his fifth year, he hadn't realized it right away, in fact, he thought it was merely a familial connection. then he started noticing the little things. the light blush when you talked to him. the way you bit your lip when you were concentrating. or, whenever you were excited about something, you'd immediately go to james to tell him. usually he'd dismiss it, like the older brother he was, but sirius wouldn't. sirius would listen for hours and hours, until you got every single point across. in his eyes, you were the most amazing person he knew.
that's when it had hit him.
and merlin had he been falling hard.
——
saturday has rolled around quickly for you. classes had flown by, with the shit ton of homework, like usual. finally, after lunch, you made your way to your brothers dorm.
as you pushed the door open, expecting the lone werewolf on the other side, you immediately started yelling/singing the beginning of bohemian rhapsody. you and remus always greeted each other this way. unfortunately for you, it was not remus on the other side.
"is this the real life?! is this just fant—oh my god!" you exclaimed, your eyes widening as you looked at the raven-haired boy in front of you. he was smirking at you, as if he was amused by you.
"sirius! uhm, where's remus?" you asked with a nervous laugh, tugging at your large sweater, that happened to be sirius'. you had stolen it as a joke, but he let you keep it, mumbling something about how it looked better on you. and you didn't exactly object.
"had a date with a lady. he asked me to tell you that he's sorry about that by the way." sirius replied, smiling at you now, glancing at your fidgeting hands.
god this is very embarrassing, you thought.
"oh! well, i'll just study with him another time then. thanks for letting me know! b-" you said quickly.
"woah, woah, woah! hold on! we're studying together, baby potter!" sirius exclaimed, rushing over to you before you could completely disappear out of view.
you tilted your head to the side, "we are?"
sirius chuckled, "yeah! why do you think i waited here? besides, i happen to be amazing at herbology." he replied boastfully.
you knew studying with him would somehow make you fancy him even more. you were so sure of it. anything sirius black did was like angel's singing to you. well, that may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but still. you wanted to object, turn him down, and just study with remus.
but again, your words failed you.
"...okay. but i'd better get a good homework grade and exam grade. i've been failing herbology, getting p's and d's. not exactly my style." you said. he nodded with a small smile.
"alright then." he replied, bringing you back into the dorm.
thirty minutes in, and you were already lost. you were lost in one of two things. his words and what he was trying to explain, (you didn't understand mostly but you loved hearing him talk), and his eyes. merlin, his eyes. they were a beautiful grey color, and you always did love the color grey. you wouldn't stare at him for too long, but it was long enough for you. but you were careful in getting caught.
"alright, now, touching the trunk of a wiggentree protects you from what?" sirius asked, looking up from the textbook. you looked down at your textbook blankly, before looking back up at him.
"um...dark creatures?" you guessed. he smiled and nodded.
you grinned and took a deep breath. finally you were getting somewhere. despite only having guessed that. it was a start, because you usually never even guessed right. professor sprout had given up on trying to force you to focus ages ago.
"now, from the top..."
——
wednesday had been the day you were dreading. after studying with sirius, you wrote your essay the next day. then you handed it in monday, and now, you were going to be receiving it back. you were beyond nervous. you hated failing as it is, but you also didn't want sirius to think you had wasted his time.
"miss potter," professor sprout said, handing you your essay with a small smile as you were about to leave the greenhouse, "well done."
you furrowed your eyebrows, walking past the other students and stopping on the way up the hill. you slowly opened your essay, fearing the worst, until you noticed the actual grade.
an E.
you never got an E in herbology.
you gasped in shock, feeling a burst of excitement. you hoisted your bag over you shoulder, and began running toward the castle, where you knew sirius would be. it was about lunch time now.
you ran as fast as your feet would take you, pushing past people and smiling like an idiot. you scanned around the corridor, until your eyes finally landed on a tall, handsome boy with remus, your brother, and peter.
you ran over, not caring if you looked like an imbecile, and stopping suddenly in front of him. you frantically opened the essay again, turning it around to show the boy.
"you got an E!" he said excitedly.
"i got an E!" you repeated, matching his excitement.
you threw your arms around him, hugging him tightly. he hugged back happily, laughing into your shoulder.
"that's my girl! i knew you could do it!" he said. you blushed, giggling softly.
"thank you." you mumbled, pulling back from the hug, keeping your arms around his neck. he pulled back a little too, but kept his arms around your waist as well.
then, it happened.
you weren't sure who leaned in first. in fact, you weren't even sure who instigated this. all you knew was that you were kissing sirius black right now and it was nothing like how you imagined it.
it was better.
he was gentle and sweet. his hands were on your hips, resting softly. your hands were intertwined around his neck.
finally, you both pulled back, slightly out of breath. you would've forgotten about the boys behind you, had it not been your brother yelling.
"what?! what's—?! i-" james stammered, glancing between you and sirius. remus and peter sighed in relief and also in tiredness.
"take a walk, james..." peter mumbled, turning james around and patting his back, pushing him toward the great hall.
"my sister and my best mate...my best mate and my sister...y/n and sirius...sirius and y/n..." james mumbled.
remus chuckled, "we'll leave you to it then..." he said, walking off with the other two.
you turned to sirius, who was smiling the happiest smile you had ever seen. you were happy too, because merlin was he was amazing, but your defenses quickly came up.
"listen sirius, i don't want to be some fling or whatever—" you mumbled.
sirius chuckled and shook his head quickly, "trust me, y/n, you're not a fling. i fancy you, more than i've ever fancied anyone."
"you sure?" you asked softly, despite already feeling like you knew the answer. he never called you by your name, it was always baby potter or n/n, never y/n. deep down you knew he wasn't lying.
"of course! you're the best person i've ever met! i fancy you for you! why do you think i gave you that sweater? why do you think i make you tea when you're not feeling all too great? why-"
you kissed him quickly, smirking at him when you pulled away.
he laughed, and you noticed a pink tint on his cheeks. "alright, i get it. point is, will you, please, go out with me?" he asked.
you shrugged, "only cause you said please." you replied with a smirk. sirius chuckled, ruffling your hair up and wrapping his arm around you.
"love, you'll be the death of me." he said.
"i'm a potter. it's what we do best." you grinned.
bonus:
harry reached for the photo that was sitting on the table. sirius had left it, likely on accident because it seemed to be the only lively thing in grimmauld place. but it was also intriguing. he had never seen this woman before. she was standing beside his mother and father, and sirius, smiling like there was no tomorrow. she looked a lot like his father, black hair and hazel eyes. her hair, however, looked rather tamer. this had to be his parents wedding day, mostly because lily wore a white dress, and james wore a nice, black suit.
"harry? have you seen—oh thank merlin, you have it. where'd you find it?" sirius asked, smiling lightly at the boy. harry gestured at the table, but didn't tear his eyes from the woman.
she looked familiar. oddly familiar. though, he knew he had never met her.
"sirius...who is this?" he asked tentatively, still staring at the woman on the picture.
sirius walked over with a sad smile, feeling his heart break more and more as he saw your bright smile. he hadn't seen your smile in almost sixteen years.
"your aunt, on your dads side. she and james were closer than i could've ever imagined in siblings. and she and lily were the best of friends, rarely saw them apart in school." he spoke gently, noticing harry's shift in demeanor. he looked sadder, like this was another thing he'd never get to experience.
"what's...what's her name?" harry asked quietly.
sirius felt his heart break more. it was saddening, knowing you would've loved to see harry now, and he didn't even know your name.
"y/n. y/n potter. your dad would call her n/n. she..." he hesitated for a moment, wondering if it was right to say this, but he wanted harry to know her, the way james and lily and you would've wanted. "she was the love of my life. in fact, we were even going to get married. after the war."
the memory felt bittersweet. he remembered proposing, at home, with just the two of you. you were ecstatic, blubbering 'yes' over and over. he remembered the way you kissed him, like it was the last thing you'd ever do. he remembered james crying tears of joy and sadness the next day as he realized his little sister was getting married, but he knew she was in good hands. he remembered you and lily rambling on and on about a small bachelorette party. even when things were chaotic and scary, you always found a way to lighten the situation. to make everyone feel safe.
to make him feel safe.
"what happened to her?" harry asked, finally looking up at sirius with a broken look. just the way sirius talked about you, harry knew how important you had to have been to everyone, but you and him would never get to meet. not in this lifetime anyway.
sirius swallowed the lump in his throat. while it hurt to mention, he knew you'd want harry to know. you'd want harry to find the good in the situation. in your situation.
"she died trying to protect your father...she was on a mission with him. the two potters, they were the dynamic duo. more than your dad and i honestly. a deatheater was trying to get away, and james wouldn't let him, so the deatheater shot a horrible curse at him. but your aunt, a brave woman she was, she jumped in front of james. it injured her badly, and she didn't make it, but she did it because you were going to be born soon. and she wanted you to have your father. even if it meant her dying. it's why your middle name is james, she's the one who suggested it, before she. . ."
harry felt a pressure in his chest, almost as if he wanted to cry. he didn't understand why he was so emotional over you, he hadn't ever met you. but it felt like he had. you sacrificed yourself for his dad. that was one of the bravest things he had ever heard.
"she sounds amazing." harry finally said, ignoring the pressure. sirius looked at the picture, his eyes fixated on you.
"she was."

j. potter — seeker
Pairing: james potter x gryffindor!fem!reader
Summary: you and james are extremely competitive with each other…while playing on the same team.
Warnings: fighting (fists), rocky relationship, lowk rivals-to-lovers but fast burn
Tumblr media
quidditch was practically your life. despite not always being a fan, you had gotten into it much more once you started hogwarts. you obsessed over it, read about it, bet on it, and played for the gryffindor team. but you weren't the only one.
there was also james potter.
he was an overly cocky, notorious chaser for the team as well. for you, there was much to dislike about the messy-haired, glasses wearing boy. and to him, you were just as dislikable. but, like always with two rivals with riveting tension, the line wasn't very clear between dislike and like.
the two of you had a slightly rocky relationship. there were times you could get along, especially on the field. both of you knew when to set aside differences to achieve the one goal that you both wanted. and that was to win.
your captain didn't complain much on that part, but she did complain when the two of you argued about endless strategies or her favorite, when one or both of you would mess up.
today's practice was no different.
a quaffle flew toward you, though thankfully you moved out of the way quick enough to miss it by an inch. you steadied your broom and scanned over your team to see who had done it, almost resulting in another trip to the hospital wing.
"watcher l/n!" james called out, smirking and sending a wink at you, before catching the quaffle that had been thrown back at him by another one of your teammates.
"you watch it potter! that could've sent me to pomfrey!" you yelled back, scowling as you looked around for the snitch that your captain, selene, had set out for you to practice.
"don't be such a drag, l/n! just an accident!" he called back with an eye roll. for some reason, this pinched the nerve that hadn't been pinched in a while by him. you saw red.
"get down on the ground and see how that confidence holds up, huh potter?" you sneered, ascending to the ground, happy to see that he followed just as quickly.
finally, both of you throwing your brooms on the ground, you lunged at him and made him stumble back into the ground, with you straddling his lap. you went to hit his face but he grabbed you by your wrists and starting wrestling you, immediately switching your positions. this had been the first time a fight had ever gotten physical, but neither of you could stop yourselves.
with you hitting him and punching him, and him doing it back, while also rolling on the ground, neither of you heard the pleads and cries of your teammates to stop until you were pulled apart. sirius was now holding james back, who was just as angry as you. meanwhile, marlene mckinnon, another chaser on the team, was holding you back.
selene, your captain and keeper of the team, stood between you two, looking frustrated and annoyed. you and james didn't care though, only glaring at each other. despite this, everyone around you couldn't deny the tension between the two of you. it was vivid in the air. even selene could be found admitting to it.
"what the hell is wrong with the two of you?! we are a team and the two of you are not following that!" selene exclaimed, staring down both of you.
"tomorrow is the first game of the season. i don't want any of this nonsense. tomorrow you two will get along and win this for us, along with the rest of you," she looked at everyone else with an intimidating stare, "if not, consider both of you replaced."
her eyes landed on both you and james again, making your eyes widen. both of you began to protest loudly, but with one look, you both shut up.
"you know what i expect tomorrow, now, everyone back up." she commanded, swinging a leg over her broom herself and kicking up.
james seemed to have swallowed his pride and walked up to you before he flew up again. you raised an eyebrow but didn't dare say anything that could cause another fight.
"i'm...sorry." he grimaced, but tried to give his most sincere apologetic smile. for that moment, he looked as sincere as he had ever looked with you. except for maybe the time when he told you that you looked beautiful as a joke.
you smiled lightly, "i assume i won't be hearing it again?"
he shook his head quickly with a light chuckle. despite having been angry at him moments ago and vice versa, somehow the two of you could always settle the disputes civilly. it was strange to say the least. but unbeknownst to each other, this was the unique way for both of you to try and bury your feelings. your romantic feelings.
"i'm...sorry too, potter." you replied, looking away from his surprised look. he chuckled again and nodded, "i know i won't be hearing that again."
he patted your shoulder, making you feel a tingle in your stomach, before flying up to join the team. after a moment, you did the same, trying to fight the blush on your cheeks.
——
"you should've seen it lily! it was like he was actually meaning it!" you exclaimed, strapping your seeker gloves on. lily giggled and rolled her eyes, turning the page to her book.
"i dunno y/n, maybe he, y'know, did?" lily suggested with a look, making you snort.
"please, we're talking about me and james. not a miracle." you replied. lily raised an eyebrow at you, making you freeze.
"what? is the ponytail too loose?" you asked quickly.
lily scoffed and shook her head, "no! that's just the first time i've ever heard you address james as james and not potter."
you felt a heat rush up to your ears and face, waving the giggly red-head off. of course lily evans would enjoy this. she knew well about your crush (though you refused to call it that and instead called it a mere attraction) and was happy to tease you about it, considering james had respectfully given up on her in their fourth year when lily started dating melinda bram.
"you totally lik-" she started in a teasing tone.
"don't!" you held up a hand to silence her urgently, "don't say i like him or that i have a crush because i don't. he's a prat. the prattiest of prats."
lily shrugged, "you say that now, but you still mumble his name in your sleep when your laughing."
you glared at her and rolled your eyes, raising your paperback book to throw at her. she yelped as it missed her merely by an inch.
"god fine i'll stop!" she chuckled, "but anyway, you should get down there, game starts in ten. i'll be there a little after."
you nodded and kissed her cheek, platonically, before leaving and venturing off to the changing rooms. you were already dressed, as you never liked dressing and undressing in the presence of wandering eyes, but you knew the team would be waiting there.
as you entered the changing rooms, you made a beeline for your broom, grabbing it quickly. you stood by the exit, already hearing the loud chattering of the hundreds of students and the few staff waiting outside in the stands.
"are you ready?" james asked, suppressing a smirk as you flinched slightly in surprise. he lifted the curtains a little, letting you peer out to see the students and staff in the stands.
"as i'll ever be. let's just hope the nerves go away so i don't mess up or something." you replied quietly. despite always doing amazingly during games, you always felt this fear of failing and doing horribly. it made you very uneasy at times. now, with your position at stake, it made you feel even worse.
"don't be. you're like perfect as the seeker...and in everything else i suppose." he said. you were sure you weren't supposed to hear that last part so you ignored it and gave a small smile.
"thanks." you mumbled, ignoring the burst of butterflies in your stomach. he grinned back nervously, "of course. now it's up to the matter of winning. we have to or i'll never come out of my room again."
you rolled your eyes. and there was the boy you knew and despite yourself, fancied.
"we'll win. i know we will." you muttered to yourself and him in reassurance. james nodded, "we better, or i don't know what i'll do."
"i supposed you could always join the hufflepuff team as a gryffindor in disguise." you joked. he glared at you, making you raise your hands in surrender.
"geez, only trying to make you laugh." you muttered.
then, you both waited until the game began.
the game had began smoothly and according to selene's plan, but you still hadn't caught sight of the snitch. the hufflepuff seeker hadn't either thankfully, but you were still desperate for it anyway.
you sighed in quiet frustration as you saw a beater zoom over and deflect a bludger from you, swinging it over at one of the chasers on the opposite team.
"alright there, l/n?" connor asked, scanning for anymore bludgers. you nodded reluctantly, "just trying to find the snitch, williamson."
he nodded and patted your shoulder, "don't worry, you're our best, i don't think selene would kick you-"
"connor! don't just sit there! do your part!" selene roared, blocking a quaffle swiftly. connor gave an apologetic look, before zooming off.
deep down you were thankful, you didn't need any distractions.
then, that familiar buzzing filled your right ear. you snapped your head in the direction of it, and your eyes quickly caught sight of the tiny, gold flying ball. unfortunately, so had the hufflepuff seeker.
it zoomed away and both seekers followed right after.
the hufflepuff seeker was directly under you, fingertips reaching for the ball. you mentally cursed. you couldn't risk flying downward to catch it, since it may give the other seeker an advantage as you tried to level out.
so now you were left with one choice. do something dumb and win or lose. and you definitely weren't going to lose. so you did something you hadn't tried before, nor had you imagine that you could do.
taking a deep breath, you locked your legs around the broom stick, managing to do so while keeping an eye on the golden ball. finally feeling secure, you removed your hands from the broom slowly and threw your body sideways. your body swung around and you ended up upside down.
steer with your legs, you thought nervously, it can't be that hard
blood and pressure was rushing to your head. it was now or never. you bit your lip in concentration and reached out slowly for the tiny ball, fingers barely touching it. the hufflepuff seeker tried to as well, but failed. you strained your reach a little more.
suddenly, you felt the tiny, cold ball grasped in your hand.
"woo! i got it!" you yelled gleefully. it wasn't until now that you realized that you had an audience the whole time, watching you carefully.
"she's got it! l/n's got it!" james yelled out.
"AND GRYFFINDOR HAS CAUGHT THE SNITCH!"
you reached up for your broom and grabbed it with your free hand, pulling yourself up and doing a loopy loop in the air to sit yourself upright. cheers had broken out in the stands by those supporting gryffindor, making you grin wildly.
reaching the ground, you were bombarded with congratulations by many and some even asking how the hell you managed that. you only shrugged and smiled.
"you did it y/n! and i never doubted it for a second!" selene exclaimed happily, pulling you into a hug before running off to congratulate your other teammates.
finally you got to james. you couldn't quite read his expression. it looked almost as if he was...proud? you weren't sure, you hadn't ever seen this expression on him before.
"alright pot-" you didn't get to finish. immediately, he pulled you into a kiss, holding you close by your waist. you wasted no time kissing back, feeling a smile tug at your lips.
he pulled away suddenly.
"that was amazing. so dangerous and i want you to never do it again, but amazing." he said breathlessly.
you huffed, "as much as i like going against anything you say, i might have to agree. on another note, have you had a crush on me this whole time? how embarrassing." you teased, staring up at him happily.
he grinned, "yes, how embarrassing. imagine liking dork lord y/n l/n." he teased, moving the loose strands of hair away from your face. you punched his arm and kissed him shortly.
"about bloody time!" four voices exclaimed. four that belonged to marlene, lily, sirius, and remus.
"am i the only one who thought they actually hated each other?" another piped up.
ah, and there was peters.
bonus;
"i've never played quidditch! what if i make a fool of myself?!" harry asked ron and hermione. the bushy-haired girl stopped and rolled her eyes, "you won't make a fool of yourself. it's in your blood."
harry furrowed his eyebrows and turned to look at ron, who shrugged. hermione beckoned them to follow, and they did.
finally, they reached the trophy case with numerous awards and achievements from previous and currents students.
hermione pointed to two names inside the case. two plaques. one read james potter and the other read y/n l/n.
"woah harry! you never told me your mother was a seeker too! and your father was a chaser!"
harry smiled sadly, "i...didn't know."
it was true, his mother and father had died long ago, to voldemort. he had been living with lily evans, his god mother, since their fate ten years ago. she didn't talk about his parents much, since it was an emotional subject for her. but she had told him their names and how good they were sometimes.
maybe being a seeker wasn't so bad after all.
if his mom did it, then so could he.

r. lupin — flirting
Pairing: remus lupin x fem!reader
Summary: in which y/n flirts every chance she gets and remus can’t help but secretly love it
Warnings: suggestive language (it’s a fluff fic tho!), pregnancy (?, just toward the end)
Tumblr media
was y/n good at flirting? yes and no. she was horrible at flirting with other people, absolutely horrible. but there was one person that she were somehow amazing at flirting with.
remus lupin.
she wasn't sure why. she figured it was the shyness or the fact that he only really spoke to lily evans or his best friends james potter, sirius black, and peter pettigrew. other people he tended to cut conversations short or he pretended to have to go. he never seemed to fancy being around other people.
that's what made her so interested in him. how couldn't she be?
"come on, y/n! we'll be late!" y/f/n called out, pulling y/n out of the common room and rushing down the corridor. y/n huffed and followed quickly behind her rushed friend.
finally arriving in potions, y/f/n took their seat next to their boyfriend/girlfriend/partner, leaving her to wander over to your usual seat. one she had next to a certain nerdy, quiet yet witty boy. most of the time in potions, she could hear him mutter some smart comment under his breath, making her giggle and earn herself a detention. though he usually muttered a quiet apology and focused on the potion instead of trying to get her out of the detention, she never took offense and shrugged it off. always.
the bell rang, and like clockwork, four boys burst inside. one had black, unruly hair and rectangular glasses. another was handsome with black, long hair and stormy grey eyes. the shortest one was giggling, fixing his uniform on his stubby body. the last, y/n's personal favorite, was a tall and lanky boy who had more scars than bare skin and slightly toned arms.
there were many things no one noticed about remus, things that y/n did. he always wore baggy clothes, but when he brought his sleeves up he had toned and slight muscle to his arms, or how when he stretch his shirt would ride up just enough for her to see the muscle that had likely built up over the years.
"take a seat boys, class is just about the begin..." slughorn sighed, like he did almost every day.
"no problem sluggy." james potter, the quidditch jock of the group, grinned, making his way to sit next to lily evans, his (to her misfortune as she proclaimed falsely) potions partner.
"say, did you do something to your hair today?" sirius asked in fake curiosity, earning a stern nod over to his seat from slughorn. both he and peter walked over to their seats, along with remus, who quickly sat next to y/n.
"hey handsome." y/n winked, smiling teasingly at him. remus gave a small smile back, used to this kind of behavior from her.
"hi y/n." he replied quietly, getting out some of the essentials for today's lesson, which had been written by slughorn on the blackboard.
"today, my bright students, we'll be brewing the draught of peace. a potion you should all be familiar with. it'll take up most of the class time, and afterward, i want you to test them on each other. but only a small dosage, as too much and brewed wrongly can result in a very long and irreversible sleep. the recipe for this commonly used potion is on page 342 of your textbooks. you may begin."
y/n took quick notice to how slughorn sat down at his desk and lied his head down. while she wasn't always observant, it was a little clear that their professor was recovering from a strong hangover.
"don't you just love it when our teacher tasks us with O.W.L potions because he can't handle his liquor." y/n mumbled, turning your page to the one slughorn had mentioned.
"oh definitely...it's right next to when james and sirius drink on a school night." remus replied sarcastically.
she chuckled, "sounds fun."
"very. especially when i wake up to one of them vomiting in the bathroom." remus grinned, walking off to retrieve some ingredients.
y/n watched him grab the things, fighting the urge to think of any flirtatious comments. instead, she placed her cauldron on the table and started reading the instructions.
when he finally returned, they both started on the potion.
"okay, now add the powdered unicorn horn. the right amount, y/n, i would rather not be put in a irreversible sleep because of your antics." remus remarked, watching y/n carefully as she measured out the ingredient.
"gee, you sure have a way with words for such a big..." she glanced down flirtatiously, "mouth. don't worry remus, i can handle such a large task. though i'm sure that's not the only large thing i can handle-"
"y/n!" remus gasped quietly.
y/n acted nonchalant and added the horn, looking over for the next ingredient. stir until red.
"alright now stir." y/n said, nodding at the cauldron. remus nodded and started stiring, making her smirk and watch him. he fought his blush hard under her gaze, but he couldn't help it.
y/n felt giddy every time she could make him blush. it felt accomplishing for some reason.
"am i making you nervous, mr. prefect?" she asked, leaning against the desk with a smirk.
"no, just not used to being stared at creepily." remus retorted, stiring still.
"oh i highly doubt that, such a handsome face and an even better smile, i doubt you don't get stared at." y/n replied. remus rolled his eyes, making her frown momentarily, but nonetheless she regained her confidence as soon as his lip twitched upward.
after the two them finished their potion and tested it, and helped mediate a argument between lily and james, class quickly came to an end. the bell rang and slughorn shot up, bringing all of the attention to himself.
"good work today! for homework i want you all to write a small essay on the draught of peace potion and its history, which will be due on friday. have a wonderful night and i'll see you all tomorrow." slughorn said, walking out quickly.
y/n groaned and started shoving her things back into her bag. she wasn't very good at researching, mainly because she always seemed to get distracted on anything else. and there was also the fact that she hated essays in general.
remus looked over at the girl, wondering why exactly she had been groaning. under her breath, he could hear her mumbling about being rubbish at research and essays. he contemplated his next decision for a moment. should he ask her to study? though he didn't admit to it, he quite enjoyed the girls company at times. but did he really want to deal with your obvious flirting for minutes or maybe even hours?
his mind immediately answered yes, even if every time she flirted he struggled to refrain from kissing her right then and there to shut her up. lovingly of course.
"hey, do you want to study with me for this essay?" he asked, making y/n look up quickly. she smiled widely and nodded.
"of course, i'd love to." she replied.
"alright—um, just meet me in the library thursday at three?" he suggested awkwardly. y/n grinned.
"alright, i look forward to our date," she winked and walked off, swinging her bag over her shoulder. remus watched her as she did, smiling subtly at how she'd subconsciously fix her hair or how she'd laugh at whatever y/f/n had just said.
"did you, moonikens, just land yourself a date with someone who has so painfully obvious been into you for some time now?" a teasing voice behind him ask. remus rolled his eyes.
"it's not a date, pads, i'm just helping her study." remus replied, swinging his bag over his shoulder while the pair waited for james and peter.
"well, i can tell you that my study dates don't usually end in just studying," sirius said, nudging remus.
"he means they end in blowjobs." james said bluntly. remus scrunched up his nose, "well, i gathered that much."
"merlin, let's just please get to the kitchens..." peter mumbled.
——
the date had come faster than expected, much faster. so much so, that y/n almost forgot about it. she had so much piled onto herself, with homework assignments.
"y/n, don't you have that date or something?" y/f/n asked, shutting their book and looking up at their friend.
y/n nodded and looked at the clock.
2:55 p.m. it read.
she gasped and shot up, throwing her things inside her bag. bidding a quick goodbye, she ran out of her common room and started toward the stairs.
"watch it!"
"hey!"
"woah!"
y/n could care less how many people she bumped into, she didn't want to be late. lupin likely wouldn't wait for her if she was. once she reached the library, she stumbled through, ignoring madam pinces glare, and ran toward a dirty-blonde haired boy.
throwing herself in the seat in front of him, she took deep breaths, panting quietly.
his watch rang and remus smirked, turning his arm so that she could see it.
3:00 p.m.
"right on time, l/n," he grinned.
"aw, are we back to last name basis again?" y/n mumbled, pouting playfully.
remus rolled his eyes and took out his own materials for their potions essay, making her do the same.
"okay, we could start by using our text books to find the basic information. you don't seem to open yours much," remus said teasingly.
y/n grinned, "why would i, when i have someone so much better to look at in potions?" remus quickly caught on and flushed a light pink, rolling his eyes.
"anyway, we can finish this essay in about an hour and a half i say, sound good?" remus asked, looking up at y/n.
"sounds great, handsome," y/n replied nonchalantly. unbeknownst to her, remus felt a little jittery every time she called him that.
as the hour and a half passed, y/n was surprisingly the first to finish her essay. remus wrote his last sentence as y/n began to fidget in her seat and toss her muggle stress ball into the air and caught it.
"okay! i am done!" remus grinned, quietly shutting his text books and putting away his essay.
"cool, and it's only 4:30," you smirked.
remus leaned back in his chair. "y'know, you didn't have to wait up for me...you'd could've gone..."
y/n shrugged and grinned slyly, "i know, but i wanted to. besides, now that we're both done, we can hang out!"
"no, look," remus shook his head, "i'm a bore and you'd immediately want to leave,"
y/n raised her eyebrow. "sounds like a challenge, what do you got?"
remus chuckled and shrugged. "okay...want to go to the kitchens and make tea and then read?"
y/n thought for a moment. she wasn't one to stay still very well, that much was obviously since she was a young girl. however, doing this with remus didn't sound all too unappealing.
she leaned closer. "can you read to me?"
remus flushed as she grinned at her suggestion, and although it wasn't technically, it felt inherently intimate. she clearly didn't see it this way, so he couldn't either. he smiled warmly at her and nodded.
"yeah, i'll read to you." he smiled.
——
remus's voice was low and calming, and for some reason, felt like music in her ears. y/n laid her head on his lap, looking up at him as he read from the book. he had begun stroking her hair, making this situation even more relaxing.
she sat up for a moment, taking a sip of her tea, handing remus his cup as he asked for it. he paused his reading and smiled at her.
"you sure you're not bored yet?" he asked.
y/n shook her head. "of course not! i'm getting really into the story. mr. darcy is an ass, isn't he?" she took another sip of the tea.
remus nodded and chuckled. "he gets better, i promise."
"he better," y/n said, making a face, "elizabeth needs something better than that,"
"yes, she does," remus agreed. "if anything, you remind me of her,"
y/n grinned and raised an eyebrow teasingly. "do i? does that make you my mr. darcy?"
remus rolled his eyes playfully, pulling her to lay back down on his lap. "you wish...now, let me finish the chapter."
"as you wish, mr. lupin," y/n teased, remus' actions eliciting a laugh from her.
and for a moment as remus read and as y/n listened, y/n wasn't going out of her way to flirt obnoxiously with the boy and remus wasn't going out of his way to reject or wave off her attempts. instead, she listened to his silky voice and entered a relaxing mindset as she closed her eyes. meanwhile, remus glanced down at the girl every so often and couldn't help the ever growing smile on his face.
bonus:
remus lupin closed the book he held quietly, looking down at y/n who's eyes snapped open.
"was that really the end?" she frowned.
"well, there's a sequel, but i figured we should start it tomorrow," remus suggested. "we have that appointment early tomorrow,"
"but! but—it's not even that important? what're they gonna tell me? that the baby is growing hands? thanks, i would hope so!" y/n protested, sitting up with a struggle at the growing stomach she currently had. she wasn't too far along, but that didn't make it any easier to manage.
"these appointments are important, remember what lily told you?" remus lectured. "i promise we can start the sequel tomorrow..."
y/n frowned, pouting. "you're no fun."
remus placed a hand on her stomach, feeling a light kick, making y/n grin slightly. "one of us has to be the bad parent,"
"we both agreed it would be me," y/n reminded.
"we'll see when he's born, mrs. lupin," remus grinned.
y/n smiled warmly. "i suppose we will, mr. lupin."
