Godrick being literally so far removed from the original culture of his ancestor Marika that he doesn’t even realize he’s making a profane mockery of one of her people’s most sacred traditions (i.e. literally grafting into/becoming trees as a demonstration of their oneness with their surroundings) is one of my favorite understated things in this perfect, perfect game

And like the IDEA that Godrick’s estrangement from his own history is directly because of Marika’s predecessors attempting to oppress and twist this ability of the Shamans to their own ends and *also* because of Marika’s own inability—despite her godhood—to reclaim her people’s place in the world after it had been so utterly crushed is *chef’s kiss*
