what are some goals for 2018? professional? personal? healthwise? as we enter the new year, let’s focus on what we ultimately want. happiness? financial freedom? love? make your vision clear so The Universe can work towards providing it to you; but also remember that you need to put in the work also. a full moon on the new year, perfect time to cleanse. perfect time to meditate and become one with The Source. put in the work. show up for yourself. ✨✨🌕🌕💫💫 #poet #poetry #poetrycommunity #poetsofinstagram #poetsociety #poetsofig #blackpoets #blackpoetry #writer #writersofinstagram #writerscommunity #womenpoets #womenpoetry #blackwriters #femalepoets #femalewriters #lovepoems #poemporn #nycwriter #nycwriters #nycpoets #nycpoetrycommunity #writerslife #writersofig #writersofnyc #poetscorner #spilledink #instagrampoets #inspirationalquotes #motivationalquotes #quotes

New Year, New City
November 16, 2017. That was the day I landed at JFK at 11:59 PM with my 9-year-old and 4 suitcases. From Sunny South Florida to the Big Apple. This was it. No turning back. We have officially moved to a new city -- a new state.
My boyfriend was already settled in. He moved in August when he got hired as an X-ray tech for a pediatric office. He met us with our winter gear. We were shivering, being that we had on thin sweaters made for Florida’s “cold” weather. Down coats, scarves, gloves, hats, heat trapping long johns, the whole nine.
We caught an Uber to our new apartment south of Brooklyn, Sheepshead Bay to be exact; two blocks from the water. It was especially cold in that area. During the 30 minute drive, my mind was buzzing, you would've thought I had a beehive for my brain. My stomach was in knots. I was wondering if I made the right decision. My last days in Florida I was super excited about the move. I was a writer and aspiring filmmaker, so this was the best city to accomplish many of my goals. I knew that, but comfort was trying to convince me otherwise.
It was just the three of us: my son, my boyfriend, and myself. We had no family. Back home we heavily depended on our family. My son would spend weekends at grandma’s, and my boyfriend’s parents would make sure we were good from groceries to babysitting. Now that they were 1,200 miles away, I kept thinking to myself, “oh fuck.”
My son has been a good sport about the move despite my worry for him. He’s always been a trooper from both. Go with the flow kind of guy. However, the first day was rough for him. He missed his grandmother. I guess the thought about not going to Grandma’s over the weekend hit him in that moment. But like the soldier he is, he came to terms with it. I mean, after all, there is FaceTime. I, on the other hand, had a hard time adapting.
At first, I was like, “okay. I’m in New York, now what?” I had no fucking idea what to do. Depression began to sunk in because I had no way how to start my journey towards being an author and filmmaker. I was looking for networking events, Facebook groups for women filmmakers in NY, everything. I began applying to jobs to Netflix, ABC/Disney, NBCUniversal, HBO, and many more just to name a few. (I’m still waiting to hear back from them.) But I steadily began to sank into my depression feeling hopeless and worthless. (I hate not working by the way.)
Within the first week, my son got signed to a popular child modeling agency, Generation Model Management. That gave me hope that moving was a good choice. I began to think a little bit more positively about the move. Everything comes with timing; I just had to be patient. So I dove into writing. I wrote poems, some short stories, some short films, and some personal essays. I began working towards become a freelance writer for blogs/magazines.
At the beginning of December, I got a letter stating that a collection of my poetry will be published. Before moving, I submitted my manuscript to a publishing company on Wall Street, Austin Macauley Publishers. I was going to become a published poet/author. So what exactly were you worried about, I asked myself. Timing. Everything is with timing. As a believer in The Universe, I should’ve known better. Ever since then, I’ve been meditating to align myself so that I can have a higher frequency around me at all times -- so I could stop being such a worrywart.
So now it’s December 30, 2017. Two days away from 2018. And I have to tell you, I am excited to see what The Universe has in stores for me. I am currently working on some fellowships, writers grants, and production for some short films. I am also writing my novel and a children’s book. Starting the new year in a new city is the perfect start-over for my family and I.
2018, be good to me. I know there will be bumps in the road, but I know it’s only so I can learn and grow. I will handle them with grace. I will continue to vibrate higher. I will take my losses with poise and my wins with a humble heart. Universe, continue to guide me down the path as I provide my services as a lightworker. I am here at your will, to fulfill my Personal Legend. Allow me to excel so that my art can help heal, teach, and counsel.
Please continue to use me.

Death to Hookup Culture.
I’m not in love with anyone. Stories of sex with people with no discussions of likes, dislikes, and ground rules so everyone feels “safe”. I don’t know their triggers. I don’t know their pains. Just desire. Just lust. I don’t want to perpetuate the problematic notions that Hollywood spits out at us. Perpetuating the notion that these empty acts of lust are ideal and representational of love because they’re not. The truth is that Hollywood directors, producers, and maybe even the writers have no concept of love and no idea how to present that idea to the masses. They create stories of men and women who have never spoken about boundaries and  what “feels good” (so basically two strangers) engaging in one of the most intimate acts there is: sex.
I can tell you from experience, sex with strangers tends to be very…AWKWARD! However, it feels good though or maybe it simply feels good by comparison. Trading in pain for ecstasy, even if just for a little while is satisfying. Welcome to the  generation of instant gratification – an ideology that has clearly gone awry. Awry in every possible sense of the word. News just broke that Apple intentionally slows down their older phones. Nothing lasts – there’s a concept called “planned obsolesce” meaning that things are actually being made with the intention of it having to be replaced. NOTHING LASTS. Celebs get divorced, we watch as they leave their families for younger women. NOTHING LASTS. But, for an instant it lasts and for an instant we were happy. We are living in a capitalistic consumerist society that is driven by our insecurities, compulsion for more, and the desire to always have what’s new. I thought love was supposed to stand in direct contradiction to all that – withstanding the test of time. Resolute and strong in spite of it all. But, in this culture, in this time – it’s simply not the case. Love too, has fallen victim to instant gratification. I guess, I found the thing that millennials are actually ruining.
Despite all of my misgivings, I want to start dating. I want intimacy with a connection. I want to have expectations of someone. I want someone to come through for me. You can’t expect anything from a person that you only see when it’s time to fuck. I’m just a twenty-something looking for some continuity in my life. Is that too much to ask for in a culture that embraces casual sex and “no feelings”?
