An anaysis of the " The most beautiful moments in life " part 1 and 2 trilogy ( also known is HYYH) its MV's from the group BTS
The HYYH ( Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa) or also known as the trilogy a story that appears in the following three albums The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1, Part 2, and the compilation album Young Forever. The story is told through music, music video's ( also called an MV) , webstoon and novels.
The trilogy tells a a fictional story about seven young friends navigating the painful and beautiful transitions of adolescence and early adulthood, exploring themes of pain, regret, friendship, and societal challenges. With the focus laid on Seokjin ( Jin) his character and his ability to time travel.
I made a analysis of each MV and their addition to the storyline, hope u enjoy it :)
Analysing the MV’s of the HYYH trilogy
- I NEED U ( HYYH Pt.1)
The MV features a lot of chaotic scenes where each member experiences a tragedy.
-Junkook: hit by a car while he was distracted by remembering a memory of his friend Yoongi.
-Yoongi: attempts suicide by setting fire to a motel, a recurring theme about self destruction.
-Hoseok: Does an suicide attempt by overdosing on pills
-Jimin: drowning himself in a bathtub what represents despair and feeling trapped.
-Taehyung: Murders his abusive father in a moment of rage
-Namjoon: goes to jail after a fight. These tragedies establish the theme of desperation and broken bonds.
The boys their friendship ends up collapsing under the weight of these tragedies leading them to the path of self destruction. This MV prepares the viewer for tragedy
- Dope ( HYYH Pt.1)
The boys their characters are here in contrast of the ones they play in the ‘ I NEED U ‘ MV for example
-Yoongi became a firefighter while in the I NEED U MV he is self destructive and does a suicide attempt by setting a motel on fire
-Hoseok changes from a pill depended person to a energetic race car driver.
In the lyrics they talk about the passion and hard work they put in their music. They also want to tell their fans to join them in not giving up despite the criticism and pressure they face. The visuals of the MV and the characters that they play their behaviour and life decisions references to the " " (三抛) and " " (五抛) generation. Referring to young people giving up relationships, marriage, pregnancy and buying a house. Due to economic difficulties and unfair job markets
-RUN ( HYYH Pt.2)
The MV starts with the boys reuniting and what seems a happy environment. But it quickly turns in a dreamlike state. The MV also talks about their attempts to escape their dark realities by running and fighting. This references to their struggle to hold on to their youth and each other. There are a lot of running scenes in this MV that symbolises that they still want to enjoy this life and not face their reality Taehyung’s story here is that he faces the harsh reality of his past. This is symbolised by him jumping from a platform into the sea To try to attempt his to escape his sins. He later on resurfaces from the water. This indicates the survival of their dark thoughts and setting the first step to towards moving forward. The trilogy ends with Jin in his room journaling and opening a door to a new beginning. Signifying a transition to the next phase and the end of the ‘Beautiful Moment’
-Burning Up also known as Fire( The Most Beautiful Moments In Life: Young Forever )
They use the concept fire as a metaphor for passion, youthful spirit and the burning desire to live your life on your own terms. Contrasting it with the coldness of the harsh world. Yoongi is seen jumping over a fence in the beginning of the MV to shake hands with a man in black. This represents their encounter with the real world. The MV can also be interpreted as a confrontation with haters. There are a few subtle hints referencing this confrontation with haters. Like when Taehyung is seen playing video games when the car behind him with the youth written on goes unfazed amidst the chaos and explosions. This event brings the statement that among all the hate and attacks BTS will say strong. The lyrics also references to Hoseok his touch with social and economic class ( spoon, a Korean theory where people should be deviated into classes based on their parents assets and income. Hoseok advocates against discrimination and labeling. The overall message is to encourage their fans to take ownership of their lives, rather than letting others decide. There are some key visuals like
-Setting figures on fire: a way of responding to haters and forgiving them. This is also a foreshadow in August D aka Yoongi his mixtape.
- Flying plane and moving bike: The plane flying on it’s own and the bike cycling on it’s own is a metaphor for their unstoppable power of their youthful fire and determination
- Save Me ( The Most Beautiful Moments In Life: Young Forever )
You can see the BTS members dance an intens choreography at a gorgeous but very rainy, depressing and low lying clouded farmers field. These things symbolises Their feelings of desperation and hopelessness as they are lost and unable to find their way. The choreography is dark, intens and emotional. It embodies the song’s theme of despair a feeling lost. U can find these themes back into the lyrics like “Ineedugirl“and“Saveme “ endThe MV is filmed in one take this empathises the struggle and overwhelming feelings of emotions. Leaving no room for error. The visuals lead to an end of the HYYH series and leads into their next album called WINGS . Save me is also seen as the opposite of their later song ‘ I’m Fine ‘ the lyrics from Save me VS I’m Fine. Represents finding inner strength
-Blood Sweat And Tears ( Wings, while this album is separate part of the overal concept. It’s included in the list because of the theme and visuals that match the HYYH)
The MV is a symbolic representation of the struggle between innocent and experience. It’s about the members journey into the world of temptation, sin and the loss of purity. The MV is inspired by Hermann Hesse’s novel ‘ Demian’ the novel explores themes like temptation, regret, the choice between good and bad , the complexes of growing up and facing the worlds darker things The theme ‘ sin ‘ and ‘ temptation’ is symbolised by objects like an apple, absinthe and coloured smoke ( this represents the allure and vices of the devils influence ) The MV also talks about the loss of innocence as the members are pulled away from a childlike state by temptation and their consequences. One of the other symbolics that I already mentioned is the internal conflict between a‘ good ‘ world and an ‘ evil.’ This can be seen in the Demian inspired quote by Namjoon “ He was too tempter, he too was a link o the second ( referencing to a second world ) the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do.” U can also link the symbolic for temptation and the consequences of human actions to the sculptures and art in the background. U can see sculpture from the Greek Mythology such as Perseus, Medusa and the Laocoōn group. The members each tell a story again such as -Jin: He represents the last piece of innocence. He also struggles to let go of his past love and the dream world he created. His final act of kissing the statue symbolises his surrender to a darker path.
-Taehyung: Taehyung represents the struggle against surroundings and the acceptance o the harsh reality. His confrontation with his father signifies an acceptance of the world as it is -Jungkook: Jungkook is the protagonist he represents the greek myth go Icarus, where he falls due to his own curiosity and defiance
-Prologue ( The Most Beautiful Moment In Life: Young Forever)
The theme is a glimpse of the past. the scenes like the famous ‘ Run ‘ scene exist out of memories of the boys time where they were happier. The two most important roles are the following ones.
-Jin: Jin is shown photographing the other members hinting at his role as the observer, who may not exist in the same reality. There are also scenes hinting that he’s potentially dying.
-Taehyung: Taehyung is shown with blood on his hands hinting to his murder in the ‘ ‘ MV. The MV ends in a happy reunion what potentially a happy memory is and wishful thinking before the group faces the harsh realities of their lives
This is all I got if u made it to the end, thank u

One of the things that the drama did was reveal an incredibly important part of hyyh vmon's dynamic that has always been there but I just didn't get before.
We know that Tae looks up to Joon as an older brother figure that he can rely on, and that Joon takes this responsibility very seriously despite being so young himself. What used to confuse me before was that Tae's safety was his responsibility, but Joon never stopped him from doing those illegal activities. In fact, he would join him.
In every one of the hyyh pairings, there's a give and take.
Jihope is made of two liars and one is in the hospital room pretending to be well and the other is there pretending to be sick but among the white walls and hallucinations and fainting and pills they give each other something solid to hold on to, a tether to reality.
Yoonkook is a cycle of addictive self-destruction born from the co-dependency of someone who latches on too obsessively and needs hurt to feel alive, and someone who cries guilt but can't help but hold on to the one person he can hurt again and again but won't disappear no matter how hard he tries.
So what did Joon get from vmon? What was the take part of this give heavy dynamic? I honestly can't believe I didn't see it before.
"Do you know what I hate most about myself? I get used to things, whatever that is. I give up and don't even fight on- no... I don't even want to fight."
Joon who is only 16 but is the breadwinner of his family, who works and works and works to support all the people who rely on him, whose worth is determined by his reliability and even temper and maturity in every situation. The first to forgive, the hardest to anger, doesn't even complain when he locks away the box that contains all his potential and dreams for people who suck him dry and give nothing back.
"I see you pouring out your anger and I get vicarious pleasure. After that, I grill you not to do that and even rationalise to myself that I'm right. That's who I am. I'm a despicable coward - so who am I to console others!? How could I understand other people!?"
I forget sometimes that Tae is older than Jungkook when he represents the clinging to youth aspect so well. He's loud, he's brash and angry and kind and rough and empathetic and raw around the edges in all the ways a child is allowed to be. Joon doesn't get that, he's not allowed that. So he lives through Tae, lets him pour out all the emotion and the thoughts he doesn't let himself say.
That scene at the container after it was set on fire breaks me because it represents this so well. He was almost murdered and he stands there silently while Tae yells at Jin all the things he doesn't let himself feel enough to say. It's like Tae is talking for him in that moment, straight from his heart, and that's what he gets from it. That night only one of them watched his home go up in flames at the hands of people he holds not an ounce of power to, knowing that they expected him to burn along with it. There are three people there in the aftermath and it is only him that doesn't cry. That just smiles and thanks Jin for the warning and tells them to go to bed.
I want to scream. How did Dogeun end up being the character I felt the most physical hurt for. How is his apparent normalcy the most tragic thing in a show littered with suicide and murder and mental illness. Agh.
