as someone who spent time in the service (customer) this is very impactful
Alright, authors, I feel like it's time to get real with the class *sits on top of desk*.
We're at work. That means that we do have to put on our "customer service" voice when interacting with our readers.
Sure, some people will be mean, some will say your story is boring or plotless or that it didn't deliver, whatever. Consider that in the broader context, is it a recurring thing, or maybe something you detected yourself? Alright, let's work to be better on the next book.
Is it just trolling, or maybe the opinion of someone outside your intended readership? "Alright, thanks for giving the story a go, I hope in the future some of my stories can be a fun read to you!" And back to work.
I know how personal our craft is, but if we want to make a job out of it, we'll have to treat it as such. Don't insult someone's taste, reading level, or ability to interpret text, you are your brand.
This next part is for my fellow countryfolk.
Brasileiros, parem de dizer que seu livro flopou porque brasileiro não tem cultura ou não lê. Marketing, diagramação, até mesmo uma edição mais cuidadosa vão te ajudar muito mais do que ficar resmungando e alienando seus leitores.
Take your work very seriously, and yourself very little.
Alright, back to work.
