We are hitting peak bird migration season in the United States with hundreds of millions of birds making their way north this weekend. Artificial light can be extremely confusing and disorienting for these birds as they migrate! Please make sure to “go dark” and turn off any unnecessary lights around your home. Your avian neighbors are counting on you to help them on this perilous journey. Lights out this weekend!
Bird migration forecast map is from BirdCast, where you can find more information and live updates.

A very welcome visitor that I only get to see during migration times - the White-throated Sparrow, one of the native sparrow species of America. There are several passing through in spring and fall, and I always love watching them. They scratch the floor for food just like the Juncos.

& one more post for the queue!
I call these migratory mugs - all of these warblers pass through my city (I live near a lovely greenspace along one of the rivers) and I feel so lucky to be able to walk 10mins away to experience spring migration <3

The sounds of a wood full of migrating warblers as well as some other birds like a vireo. For those who never have or who may never get to be in a spot like this during spring migration.

Eastern Phoebe showing off their wings.
I'm SO happy about this photo. I've been trying for weeks to capture a non waterfowl with their wings out like this.

I'd heard a couple "sneakers in the gym" squeaks for the past couple of days but I finally managed to see my first rose-breasted grosbeaks of the season last evening. A female who was squeaking very vigorously right above me, and a silent male who I was like "that's probably a robin but I'll look with my binoculars anyway"

Some more spring migrants from the bottom of a brush pile. An immature White-throated Sparrow (the white bib is not perfectly bright yet), a White-crowned Sparrow and an out-of-focus Brown Thrasher, added because I see them so rarely.

Swamp sparrow and a veery in a spring in the woods this morning. I got clearer pictures of the veery but I like this one with the moss. (This post dedicated to @srobrien2 who walked up while I was taking pictures of these two.)
