They store and capture more carbon than any other habitat on land. They cool our planet, provide food, and are a source for new medicines. Across the world, we are losing tropical forests at the rate of nearly 40 million acres every year and with it the planet’s treasure trove of diversity. Coral reefs, sometimes called rainforests of the sea, form some of the Earth’s most diverse ecosystems. Just in the last 30 years we’ve lost 50% of the world’s corals.
