I'm not really a HanLuke shipper but I can imagine them hooking up early in their friendship & then Han later after various revelations having a personal crisis over whether or not it's weird to have sex with both halves of a set of twins

I have so many questions about this, all of which have no answers yet! But here’s what I think we do know: ➡ The scenes on Kenari are a flashback to sometime during 22 BBY to 19 BBY, which would be 14 to 17 years prior to the current day of the Andor series. They have to be flashbacks (rather than a current day twist) because we see Maarva at a much younger age in those scenes. It has to be during those years, because we see the Separatists’ logo on the arms of the officers, which did not exist as a government-slash-movement until 22 BBY and because Maarva says a Republic ship is coming. The Republic stopped existing in 19 BBY, so this has to be before the rise of the Empire. You could potentially stretch it backwards a year or two, the Separatist movement has been gaining traction in Attack of the Clones for awhile, but not much, a couple of years at most, give or take, imo.
I find it unlikely that the show made a continuity mistake this big, regardless of what Maarva says about them. Either she knows something we don’t (a Republic undercover operation?) or she’s mistaken about who they are. ➡ Future episodes will have more scenes set during the Clone Wars era because we see Clone Troopers in the second trailer. If you’re not looking closely, you might think they’re Stormtroopers, but I’m pretty sure those are Clone Trooper helmets.
We don’t know when the Clone Troopers were fully phased out, but they didn’t all suddenly retire in 19 BBY, we see them in The Bad Batch now working for the Empire. While TBB season 1 takes place in 19 BBY (and I’m guessing that the Empire will start phasing the clones out quickly), making me think it’s unlikely that this takes place during the Empire, but who knows. You can’t even really tell by the officer next to them because, from a distance, the late Republic uniforms of the officers were basically the same design as the Empire’s officer’s uniforms. ➡ The ships don’t really tell us much either. We see a dagger-shaped cruiser at one point in the trailer, but is that a Republic cruiser or an Imperial Star Destroyer? We see some LAATs in the show, but are they Republic-era ships or, when the Empire rose, did it repurpose those ships, because everything looks older and more lived-in during the Empire? That’s about all we know for what’s going on with Kenari and the timeline of the flashbacks! Other than that, it’s just a lot of questions, and nothing is reliable background information other than what’s in the Rogue One movie. Reference books (like the Star Wars Encyclopedia or the Rogue One Ultimate Visual Guide) are not dependable as sources, because they’ve been contradicting those for years. In theory, novels and comics and games should be on the same level of canon as the movies and TV shows, but the last year has shown us that that’s bullshit. All you can rely on is the movie. So what does that mean for young Kassa or Kenari? We can’t pin much of anything down. We can’t rely on a birth year for Cassian, we can’t rely on an age for him in the flashbacks (we don’t know how old the character is meant to be, despite the actor’s age), we don’t know how old Cassian is in the current day, we only know that it takes place in 5 BBY and that the flashbacks seem to be 14 to 17 years back, maybe you could stretch that a couple of years in either direction. What’s going on with whatever the chemical was or why Maarva thinks those officers were Republic ones, if she knows something we don’t (like an undercover mission) or if she’s just mistaken, if any of that is tied to the ruins we see Kassa walk by, we’ll have to wait and see!
That shot feels very significant, especially since none of the children of Kenari seem like they made any of the things they have, like where are the adults, where did their clothes and shelter come from, why doesn’t Kassa speak Galactic Basic? Their camp looks very much like crashed survivors making use of things from a ship, like there’s no way a village that primitive could make a metal bin like this:
Or the clothes that the children are wearing, there’s no way they made those. And this looks very much like it was pieced together with whatever they could salvage:
Is this a colony that went bad and this is all that’s left of them and the supplies they brought? Is that why the older children seem to understand what the ship crashing on the planet means, but they don’t look to it for help? One girl raises her arms and yells like she’s trying to signal it, but the older leader girl tells her to be quiet and gets her to stop, why? Is them being colonists or locals who had their land colonized why Kassa doesn’t know Galactic Basic? Or were they crashed onto the planet as well and have been surviving there for years? A local population that was invaded by outsiders and are now using their stuff scavenged from their ships? Or are they hiding from the Republic or the Separatists for some reason? But where are any of the adults? And does it have anything to do with those ruins that clearly have machinery rusting away in them? We don’t know why Cassian changed his name or why he always said he was from Fest on official forms (since Kenari doesn’t seem to carry any stigma with it, some have heard of it, but it doesn’t really mean anything to anyone, hence why Cassian told his friends, but not official forms), we don’t know why he’s looking for his sister or how she left Kenari or how Cassian knows she left Kenari, we don’t know if she’s hiding from the Empire now or if she just keeps moving to find a new job somewhere. And that’s what we know so far! The current day timeline takes place in 5 BBY, which means it’s 14 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith/the formation of the Empire and Rogue One takes place immediately before A New Hope, so we’re five years out from those events. Some fun bonus reference points for a timeline: 22 BBY - Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Everything that happened in the aftermath of the Trade Federations invasion of Naboo lead to the Separatist Crisis, which came to a head in 22 BBY with the Battle of Geonosis, where the war starts. 22 BBY - 19 BBY - Star Wars: The Clone Wars The battles between Republic forces and Separatists forces span the galaxy and the Separatists invade many neutral and Republic-based worlds. While the Separatist Senate itself is unaware of the atrocities being committed by its army (led by Count Dooku and General Grievous), the Republic is too often filled with corrupt Senators who care more about themselves than the people they represent and are so afraid of war coming to Coruscant that they’ll bankrupt the Republic buying more clones to keep the war going. Mon Mothma–along with Padme Amidala and Bail Organa–is one of the few bright voices in the Senate, still working for change. Somewhere in these years, Din Djarin is orphaned when his planet is attacked by Separatists and he’s rescued by Mandalorians wearing Death Watch symbols, eventually inducted into the Children of the Watch. 19 BBY - Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Count Dooku and General Grievous are both killed, devastating the leadership of the Separatists. Mon Mothma and Bail Organa are working to create a group of Senators who want to call for Palpatine to give back his emergency powers, which he has held onto for far too long, this is basically considered the original founding of the Rebellion. Then the Republic and Separatists both fall, being reformed into the Empire under Emperor Palpatine’s rule. The Jedi Order is genocided to extinction, any remaining Jedi are forced into hiding, but are still hunted down. Any Force-sensitive children are kidnapped by the Inquisitors and either killed or forced to turn to the dark side. Anakin Skywalker is renamed Darth Vader, storms the Jedi Temple to kill even the younglings, and is also tasked with killing the Separatist Council leaders, so there’s no one left to lead them. 19 BBY - Star Wars: The Bad Batch Clone troopers are still working for the Empire at this point, with their same armor, but they started to be called Clone Stormtroopers. The transition happens during this year, starting with clones, but eventually more and more non-clones join, especially as they age twice as quickly as non-clones. 13 BBY - 10 BBY - Solo: A Star Wars Story Probably not going to be relevant, but if you want to know it takes place 5 - 8 years before Andor now you know! 10 BBY - Obi-Wan Kenobi Luke and Leia are 10 years old, Leia is kidnapped and Obi-Wan Kenobi goes to rescue her and bring her back to Queen Breha Organa and Senator Bail Organa. 5 BBY - Andor Some flashbacks take place during the Clone Wars, but primarily the show seems to be set five years before the destruction of the Death Star. The Rebellion is only just really getting started, not a lot of people probably know of it yet. 5 BBY - 1 BBY Star Wars Rebels Pockets of rebellion against the Empire are scattered, there’s nothing that yet unites them, but over the course of the next five years, more and more people join in the efforts. Leadership has some rocky tos and fros, there’s discord between people like Saw Gerrera and Mon Motha (eventually the leader of the Rebellion, the face of it, along with Leia Organa) about how they should fight against the Empire. Leia Organa becomes the Senator for Alderaaan in 1 BBY, when she’s 18, the youngest Senator ever. In 2 BBY Mon Mothma resigns from the Senate and she’s also officially branded a traitor, having to flee Coruscant and going into hiding. She gives a speech about the atrocities being committed by the Empire, broadcast widely, thanks to the help of the Ghost crew and is thus pretty much the Empire’s #1 target. 0 BBY - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story The Death Star is complete and a team is formed by the Rebellion to capture the plans, including Cassian Andor. The mission will cost his life, but he will help get the plans to Leia Organa, which will enable Luke Skywalker to blow the station up soon. 0 BBY - Star Wars: A New Hope The Imperial Senate has been borderline useless for awhile, but it’s officially dissolved in 0 BBY, the Emperor is now the sole ruling body. The Death Star blows up Alderaan, killing Bail and Breha and everyone else on the planet. The Rebellion takes their shot and blows up the Death Star.
