Today’s song, the cow song, was kindly requested by @spritespi !! Thank you for requesting this one, I never would’ve thought of it on my own since I always forget this song exists (sorry) and it was so fun to make!

Nine A few cool people to get to know

Hello besties! My lovely friend @melpomene-grey tagged me to do this fun questionnaire thing - so here are my answers!

Last song I listened to: so I’m actually listening to my playlist as a write this lol! The song I’m listening to right now is what a time to be alive by superchunk

Favourite colour: RED! It’s been my favourite colour since I was a teeny tiny child and I love it a lot! I also like dark blue and dark green a lot too!

Currently watching: I’m not actually actively binging anything right now - but uh I’ll compromise and say the last thing I watched instead… it was the bluey 28 minute special.. I cried..

Sweet/savoury/spicy: Sweet! Always! I love sweet foods!

Current obsession: TMG (I know what a shock!). That’s the main one um but I’m also very obsessed with possums, and I’m really into dragons (happy birthday to in league with dragons btw (ik it was yesterday sorry))

Last thing I googled: Chow chows (the dog). This is because I saw one and couldn’t remember what breed it was (I was pretty sure it was a chow chow but I googled it to check - I was right)

Favourite season: Spring or autumn since I don’t like being too hot or too cold! Probably spring mostly, because my birthday is in spring (it was earlier this week actually :D)

Skills I would like to learn: So many things!! I would love to learn to crochet and to write songs. I also am starting to learn electric guitar which I’ve always wanted to do. I also want to learn more artistic techniques such as sculpture.. wood burning.. printmaking.. various others

Best advice: Be kind and respectful to people, it always is appreciated! Also always try to see the good in people :)

Cotton Drawing

Of course! I’m having so much fun. This is gonna be a long post so strap in.

possum by night: I don’t really listen to in league with dragons so this will be fun.

Grow fat and grow old and grow blind and be content

The delivery!!! All of these things at once. I want my body to fall into disrepair and I will be happy in having lived my life well. Makes me feel all warm inside to think of this poor possum, who many might see as the lowest of the low, a scavenger, having a nice long life and the gift of being fat and old and blind and happy.

choked out: in which we are wrestling again. Its vicious, baby. It’s getting real. I love the line that everyone cites from this song (everybody’s got their limits / nobody’s found mine) but it’s not my favourite line.

Kick and claw and scratch and bite

Fire up the grill, everybody eats tonight

I love the rhythm in this part but I’m also always partial to a little metaphor. There will be blood and there will be meat and I’m gonna fuckin eat this guy bro. Everyone’s gonna share in this victory and this guy’s gonna be fuckin TOAST. Delicious.

in league with dragons: now I just said I don’t listen to this album much but I REALLY like this song so this is gonna be a long one. Okay. Look. Its such a jaunty tune.

Its so hard to get revenge

The human element drags you down

It IS so hard to get revenge. Revenge is the fantasy genre mission: slay the dragon, save the princess, achieve freedom and prosperity happily ever after. Specifically, spite the evil witches who condemned you to a life without such things. But our protagonist is not a fantasy archetype, he’s more of a real guy. He’s weary and this whole revenge this is a lot of work! The tongue in cheek delivery really gets me. I can picture this guy at a tavern talking to some brand new friends over tankards of mead goin “yeah man, this whole revenge thing is exhausting, right?”

But it’s also, at heart, very human to want revenge, and yet struggle to go through with it. I know for me personally, there are a lot of people in my life I don’t wish well, but the idea of actually causing them any suffering is hard to consider because of empathy. I can’t help but see my suffering in that I might wish to other people, so it’s hard to go through with it.

Of course, it’s rare to have cut and dry villains in real life, but there are people we want to hurt back for hurting us, or maybe boundaries we want to set for the sake of not being hurt anymore. and oftentimes, for me, that kind of justice is hard to achieve because I get too soft with my boundaries. I think too much about other people’s feelings rather than my own.

Unicorn Tolerance Drawing

This is the 3rd part of me drawing mountain goats songs (sorry it’s been so long since the last one)

This was super duper fun to draw! I struggled a lot with the pose, and with drawing a horse, but overall I really like how this came out!

This song is very good and I very much enjoy it!

Besties listen up

I’ve been hearing an awful lot about how much people disliked in League with Dragons when it first came out. Now I would like to say, I didn’t start properly listening to TMG until like 2022/23. I read a lot of bad press about this album, so much that I ended up just avoiding it until the end of last year (or maybe the beginning of this year) when I decided that the album cover was so great that I just had to give it a go and.. I don’t get the hate!! I love this album with a passion, it’s one of my favourite mountain goats records out there, and I urge all of you to go and listen to it immediately

There’s just so many songs on here that are so beautiful and unique (possum by night is, naturally, my favourite of the bunch, but every track on here is gorgeoussss)

Thanks for the ask! It took me a while to think of some things lol, but here goes

1. I am visually impaired! I have albinism which has caused me to have nystagmus, photophobia, astigmatism and other eye problems - this is something I used to be super self-conscious about and really dislike, but I’ve come to realise that it’s part of who I am and I like that I am able to accept it

2. I really like my drawings. I have come a long way in my artistic journey, and have been drawing since I was really young. I like how far I’ve come, how much I’ve improved and how I still enjoy making artwork that can make myself and other people happy. I like the fact that I’m no longer at a stage where I feel disappointed with whatever I create, and instead feel proud when I see the finished product

3. I love my ability to remember song lyrics - seriously, ask me to recite any mountain goats song and I will be able to do it. I can remember lyrics after only listening to a song once or twice, even when it’s pretty long

4. I like my ability to just YAP for hours about whatever I find interesting. I do this relentlessly and I am impressed at my own ability to continuously just talk without needing breaks. (and yeah sure, everybody’s got their limits, but, thus far, nobody’s found mine). I know this can be annoying to everyone else, but I greatly enjoy talking obsessively about my interests

5. I like the fact that, however much I procrastinate, which is an awful lot I must say, I get stuff done when I need to (most of the time)

Random 3 AM thoughts from last night: What if someone made Tallahassee into a musical?

Picture the scene: the audience have all sat down, they’re chatting away and then the lights go dark. And Tallahassee (song) plays. You can hear the singers but they aren’t visible by this point. The audience believe this to be a beautiful love story. Then the actors come on stage, and they sing first few desperate hours, beautifully, in perfect unison. This is when the couple arrives at the house for the first time. The house is falling apart, and gives the audience the impression that this is a tale of recovery, making the best of a bad situation, which is further implied by southwood plantation road; “I am not gonna lose you, we are gonna stay married” - it’s evident that their relationship is far from perfect, but hope still remains for them. Between this and game shows touch our lives, they each open a bottle of beer and drink it. In silence. Then they each smoke a cigarette. Again in complete silence. They walk inside and game shows touch our lives plays. It becomes clear to the audience how bad the situation really is once, after a short period of conversation, which slowly becomes less and less coherent, the house that dripped blood plays. There is no break between this and Idylls of the King. The couple sing this quietly, in seperate rooms. Again, there is only a few seconds break between the end of this and the beginning of No Children. The audience note the sudden aggressive shift to pure anger and hatred. On one half of the stage, the husband sings loudly, a bottle in his hand. On the other side of the stage, the wife packs a bag, and by the end of the song, she has left. The lights fade, and the interval begins.

The second half begins loudly and suddenly, with the husband singing See America Right. At this point, only half the stage is lit, with the husband visible. The wife cannot be seen. The side of the stage which is lit switches for Peacocks and International Small Arms Traffic Blues are performed by the wife. The switch happens again and the husband performs Have to Explode. Shortly after this, underneath a beautiful, clearly, starry night sky, the couple perform Old College Try. The singer alternates between lines, with them both performing the final lines “I will walk down to the end with you, if you will come all the way down with me”. This is when the audience become truly hopeful. They prepare themselves for the reunion they had always secretly expected. As morning comes, Oceanographers choice begins to play. The stage is clouded with smoke, and the wife walks into the house. They fight, and then embrace. As this is happening, the light outside the window is darkening, (to indicate time passing, and the hatred slowly returning). Finally, as the couple are staring into each other’s eyes, Alpha Rats Nest begins. Flames begin to appear at the front of the stage, and by the end of the song, the couple are completely hidden behind them. The last time they are visible, they are staring away from one another. As the music fades out, so do the flames. But the couple are gone. So is the house. And the lights on the stage all go dark. And the show is over.
