Thought occurred. Consider it my imagined happy ending for Jean. Goodness knows he needs one.

Somewhere along the line Jean is trying to get Laila and Cat to do a drill with him, and he gets them to join in with training by bribing them with Boba tea.

As in Jean actually trying Boba tea. (If they finally win the league - so they’d better do the extra training.)

The girls look at him like he’s grown an extra head and sprint off to tell the entire team.

They’re all unreasonably delighted and invested because of course they are. Everyone is now going to extra training so they can watch Jean try Boba tea for the first time. Jean is very confused because of course he is. Why is him drinking tea this motivating? Jeremy thinks this is the best thing that’s happened to his team since shrinking his game day roster for the sake of honour and fair play.

And of course they win. And they’re all ecstatic. And Jean has almost forgotten that promise he made months ago. The team hasn’t. Lalia definitely hasn’t. And they’re in the middle of the awards ceremony when she tells him. “Tea. Tomorrow. Remember? You’re gonna love it! ” . And Jean frowns. And then sighs. Because he did promise and they did win and he acquiesces and nods.

Sometime in the next 24hrs the entire team is crammed into the lofts, and Lalia is handing Jean a cup. Everyone knows Jean would not in a million years be so much as touching that stuff on a normal day. But it’s not a normal day. They’ve finally won. And Jean promised.

He drinks. And oh but they’ve got him peach flavour, and then the bubbles burst in his mouth and everything is fruit and fireworks all at once somehow and those brown eyes bright with delight as they watch the surprise on Jean’ face.

“So?” Lalia will press him after he’s tried just that first taste. She’s been waiting long enough. “What do you think?”

“I think it is good that we won this year”

And Jeremy understands. He knows that Jean is glad he got to discover this, that he doesn’t just like it, he loves it. And hates it a little bit too because this is so good it’s going to throw off the whole nutrition plan and ruin any chance of them winning ever again. And Jean is as close as he gets to not caring - because he takes another sip. Jeremy throws his head back and laughs “That good?”

And Jean makes sure he meets his eyes before he smiles at him “That good”

And the entire team cheers. Jabberwocky is howling along to join in. And the lofts is actually a home, then, full of happiness and people that just want to be happy with each other.

And Jean updates his list.

Evening breeze. Rainbows. Open Roads. Friends. Fathers. Boba tea. Jeremy’s laughter. Home.
