Other friends from the Steven universe movie that spinel sings maybe fits RR!Alastor? Maybe his feelings about Vox at the hotel?

I love this a lot hooo, if I only knew how to animate(furiously going to research after my finals). It's the whimsyness, so good....

I think RR!Alastor is more conscious about how he displays his emotions though, so he acts like a hater towards Vox to the public and only starts to seem dimensional and "possessive" in private.

Okay, but I did have a canon Radiostatic oneshot in wip ages ago...maybe i'll revisit it now.

I found obsessed Alastor easier to write when I just kinda thought about it as the same as canon interpretation but "stretched" like I see RR!AU's dynamics as somewhat set in the future, diverging from canon.

It's a Vox who already had his "lovestruck"/pining phase,

It's an Alastor who is starting to realize the consequences that come with being so unavailable(not just in a romantic sense, but in a communicative and friend sense too),

This design is not 100%, as it doesn't have his new hands/exterior anatomy added yet but.

Here are some thoughts I have about RR!AU Vox's design:

Main stuff: - First off, his bowtie: personally. I found this a massive honor that I've deemed Vox to be the one to keep the bowtie in RR!AU because i'm on a mission to GET RID OF ALL OF THEM/change them into different types of "bows" or collar accessories. There's literally so many different types that exist, i'm mad that literally 7 characters in HH have a bowtie....The bowtie also has a snake eye pattern in the middle, taken straight from Lucifer's demonic form. (I love Vox with a tie so much. I think Canon vox should wear a tie. But for the purposes of RR!AU where his fakeness/showmanship is at the forefront, I thought the bowtie made more sense) - His fuckass hat and the silly wi-fi signal symbols: It's corny AF. RR!AU Vox is corny. I guess I altered Vox's personality to be more in line with what I see his canon design as. - Swaping red with yellow: Wanted to distance him design-wise from Alastor as far as possible. Alastor did not pay rent, and was evicted from RR!Vox's mind. This is also because of the vague "royalty" themes I'm going with since he's contracted to Lucifer and contract sharers/holders usually get a bit of influence from their designs overtime, I like to think.

The other stuff: - His "contract" eye: I actually don't know if i've mentioned it here, but I liked the popular theory that people who have their souls owned have black scelera/eyes(ex: Angel, Husk, Vox's Assistant, Travis, Melissa, etc.). Vox is a special case in which he can use his display to hide it. He only "puts it down" to those he's closest with(so just the Vees, really) but I imagine he's still insecure about it.... - His white coat: I noted in the Alastor design breakdown post that I wanted him to have this "nice guy facade(coat) and darker/evil true intentions(his suit)". But also a big inspo I thought about when designing Vox was that I wanted him to look like those retro 50's prom outfits. I don't really know why, but that's a reason why his coat is almost a pure white. The black lines on his bowtie are there for a similar reason, i wanted that retro-ish old school charm. - His suit: Not much really. I do like his canon vest but also I needed it to make sense for my sanity(was it a suit vest? Was it a sweater? The world may never know). - Circut lines: just me wanting to keep the cool arm lines in his canon design and then deciding to put it everywhere for his "brand"/The Reset Resort. I think it makes sense since he's trying to be more "orderly"? Appeasing? Something like that. - Antenna(on top of his head): Vaguely resembles a halo. The 3 spokes on the left were supposed to be closer to actual TV antenna, but you can sometimes draw them as stars/long sparkles for that ✨️halo✨️ look, i guess. - Headset: wanted something cool to make him less bald + continue with the thin gold/curly themes somewhere. It was actually trying to resemble a snake/snake eye at some point but I dont think it looks like that at all so. It is what it is.

Parting thoughts:

- Generally, he's supposed to look very "Art Deco" with some futuristic/sci-fi elements.

- Ive thought about redesigning parts where he aligns with canon a lot(Hat, Wi-fi signals, Collar/Bowtie) to make it a more original design..... but ultimately, this is a canon-adjacent AU and Vox is the main character(Charlie should be too but LOOK AT MY BLOG. It's vox, everything is vox). It is of the highest honor that he mirrors his canon self in a far-off way.

Whoo boy, when I say I've been thinking about this AU I've been THINKING about this AU. First of all, every single one of the AU designs is sick, and the character relationships are thought out well and all the art is *fucking phenomenal*, and the oneshot for the AU came out while I was drawing this and it was also super good?? I want to draw scenes from the fic now, too! I think this might be my favorite AU out of the ones I've covered so far I-

Lemme try and make sense of Vox's mindset, and correct me if I get anything wrong?

I think Vox in RR!au hardly actually thinks about suicide. He's too much of a busy man to do that, after all! Thinking about death is for people with too much time on their hands, who don't have to deal with a billion problems on the daily. And sure, maybe it wouldn't be a terrible accident if he was locked out on extermination day one year (not that there's exterminations anymore), but he'll never bother to actively seek it -- why would he? He has things to do. Empires to run/build. Deals to make. Resorts to run, residents to settle, princesses to talk to.

Really, everything would be just fine and dandy, as long as progress is being made, nothing goes wrong at the resort, heaven doesn't come down for no good reason, and that deer freak manage to not bother him for a single day. All dandy!

So what if he's been going through business ventures like someone going through Doritos at the back of the car? It's difficult to stay on top, in Hell, and he can't rely on tech or media forever, not when they cycle faster and faster(and he would know, of course, his whole body is made of it). He's doing what it takes, and if it's risky, what business isn't?

And re: Alastor, vox may have once had feelings for him, but now it's probably soured into maybe wishing that Alastor would just fuck off somewhere where he'll never be heard from again. I think Vox knows very well from years of companionship that Alastor considers him a source of amusement and entertainment rather than an equal, and that hasn't truly changed even after he left, and in a way that has to bite? That Alastor cannot leave it alone, has to make his opinions and disdain clear to all of hell every single day, and also make it clear that vox cannot do anything to stop him (that tv still runs on radiowaves fundamentally, that he can't get rid of Alastor's influence).

Like the way I interpret canon!vox's feelings re:alastor has a lot more insecurity and the desire to show he's stronger now, he's over it, he doesn't need him, than just being rejected romantically, and in contrast RR!vox grinned and bore it longer without letting on, and then at some point just gave up, by which time his feelings have soured so far past insecurity and bitterness into straight up nihilism. (Doomed yaoi my fav)

Ok I'm just rambling now but yeah I think vox in RR!au is really really interesting? Bc he's y'know not in the best place but also he's fine. He's not, probably never, going to actively do anything, left to his own devices he's just going to keep at his daily routine and eventually self-destruct on his own hubris by taking on far more than he is capable of (people pleasing tendencies, hm?). But otherwise he's fine.

I think RR!Alastor is also chasing RR!Vox because he knows something is really wrong when Vox wants to cut something *fundamental to his functions* out from his life... If Alastor had any heat to his words, he could do some serious damage to Vox.

But Alastor was not able to reciprocate back then(or in general) the way Vox ever wanted him to. Alastor might think, "What's so wrong about being amusing to me? What's so wrong in being cared for that way?" But we know that Vox, even in canon, is pretty damn emotional. A confession was bound to happen, but since RR!Vox never did, he opt'd to shut them off. It started off with distractions, and those worked too well. Eventually he gave up trying to figure out his emotions and took the "easy" way out, nihilism--but like everything Vox dips his foot into, it's never enough. Only this time it's not only power(like I interpret canon!Vox to seek) that's growing/he's greedy for, it's this all-encompassing void.

Another interesting characterization to tack onto RR!AU Vox is his strong lack of self-preservation, I did mention it here when I had some thoughts on canon!Vox, but rather than "confidence", he does not care. And on occasion, he can go irrationally, batshit crazy for the same reason.

Let's set the stage in hmm, 1980s? He starts not to care about smaller allies, the people he stomps on, eating them up to become an overlord. Recruits Valentino, doesn't care that Val is immoral. At first it's "not his business", but it starts spreading. What is it that he's looking for? Power? Love? Entertainment? People to accept him?

Which is why RR!Vox decided to jump the gun a little bit and shoot for becoming a form of "GOD", aka the original reason for all his anguish in Hell(his religious roots as a human). It's kind of...an endpoint? It's not the most sane, or sensical route-- but he doesn't care that much. He's functioning on this tired/desensitized, pseudo-robotic, logical reasoning with a combo of "oh god I'm running out of interest"(in existing/running himself to the ground). So....hm, "fine" is a tragic word, indeed.

He's not, probably never, going to actively do anything, left to his own devices he's just going to keep at his daily routine and eventually self-destruct on his own hubris by taking on far more than he is capable of (people pleasing tendencies, hm?). But otherwise he's fine.

Welllll, he did always want to go out with a bang. If he did. I don't know, something really big. Like becoming God! Yeah.....That'd do it.

IMO, the premise of RR!AU isn't in stasis-- the reason Vox picked up this project in particular is an aggressive move. He's no longer distributing the same amount of work to the other Vees either anymore, so there is....some urgency, is what I like to think....

Tee hee I agree with everything here, I hadn't thought about it until your comic, but yep-- Charlie and Lucifer's relationship is new entity that is sorta-familiar but new cuz it's branching into a different development!

I haven't really thought about Chaggie's first meeting yet, but I like the idea that they have this meet cute and then ***BAM*** they(Hell/resort people) convene(with the angels) for a board meeting and Charlie finds out that kinda-nice cute girl from earlier? Oh yeah, she's a fucking exorcist and she's here to analyze your every move at this resort to see if your Sinners are worthwhile. I do have a few thoughts on RR!AU chaggie's dynamic, but they aren't /super/ set yet!

Context is that Vox is the hotelier instead of Alastor, and he has a contract with Lucifer (through which Lucifer is getting updates on Charlie)!

This all started because of a thought I had: since Vaggie doesn't fall here, Charlie would have had to brave many of her early struggles alone, which somehow turned into 'yknow maybe charlie sees the contract with vox as her dad's way to support her, and that leads to a rare instance of her making contact'.

But anyway here their relationship is still pretty strained and despite what he says in the last panel, Lucifer prefers to remain distant from the resort and the whole redemption thing; but Charlie's life pretty much revolves around the resort now, so there isn't really a way to be part of her life and avoid it.

Also the room in the first panel is a super rough attempt at a therapist's office, LOL
