Hello everyone finding this post!

I’m an 18-year-old author trying to get my book The Boy on the Roof out more and into the public, so I started a YouTube channel to help with that! Here’s my latest video on the songs I listen to while writing! It’s a little embarrassing because I don’t dance 😂 just thought I’d share some of my favorite songs in the playlist I listen to! This is my ugly mug and I love it

The original idea was that the red on top would mix in with the blue glaze that it was already coated in, but instead it just melted off and crazed. I’m a little disappointed, but a lot of people told me they liked it (I feel like they were being nice but then many more people said they thought I did it on purpose so who knows!)! :)

My lopsided bowl!

The color is absolutely beautiful! I had hoped to put cereal in it but I just got a bunch of chocolate for St. Nick’s Day and filled it up with them!

Now the bowl sits on my desk while my mug gets used for tea 😌😂

Just thought I’d show the wins and losses of pottery and that no matter what it’s still art and you should be proud for doing something new! :)

Frankenstein Book Review

I have always thought that Frankenstein had the coolest concept ever: reanimating human life. I used to watch House M.D. and it almost got me into the medical field, then I remembered that I wouldn’t do well opening up another human. However, when it comes to Frankenstein, the idea of creating a human is just amazing to me. Playing God is never a good thing, because as my English text book (somewhat) said: “creating something and letting it run amuck leads to disaster.”

The book was very intelligent with its references to works like Wordsworth and Coleridge! I read The Ancient Mariner, and I defiantly saw the connection of Victor and the Mariner in the idea that they both wear an Albatross. Incase this doesn’t make sense, the Mariner is on a ship with his crew, but shoots an innocent bird (the Albatross) which stands for guilt, and in one scene he wears it around his neck. Like guilt is weighing him down for shooting the bird, and as this happens, his whole crew but him gets sick and die. I see that Victor’s Albatross is creating the monster, and after abandoning it hears as it creates chaos.

That’s another thing: Victor is pretty selfish. When Justine is condemned to die for a crime the monster had committed, he doesn’t speak up. Hearing this news, he does (somewhat) tell his brother Ernest, who is like “Um what? Victor what the heck.” Meeting Justine in her cell with Elizabeth was an angry scene for me, because Victor didn’t speak up to make an attempt to save her. I will say, it hurt when I found out that Henry died and Victor was absolutely bed-ridden over it. Henry really loved Victor as a best friend and vice versa. Victor’s isolation scares me. I hope no one has to stay in isolation for so long, especially given the times in our world now.

I felt bad for the creature at some points, but then he scared me. Also, Shelley never uses the word “monster” but “creature” instead, and I felt so terrible because in all the pages of my homework response questions I kept calling him a monster. I was so amazed to see lessons we’re still learning today in the book, especially that we shouldn’t be prejudice against appearances. Not sure why I was so amazed, but it made me glad that Shelley acknowledged it. However, everyone runs away from the creature, and in doing research for the book (ugh, I have to write an essay!) I saw that a lesson was “that, unfortunately, appearances do matter.” It made me sad again for the creature, but then I remembered the acts he committed out of revenge for Victor. Not too sure who to like more.

All in all, I was excited to read the book! I also really love the adaptions that sparked ideas from the book! Frankenweenie by Tim Burton is so interesting and pretty scary but I love Sparky and I get so emotional when he comes back to life! I also liked the movie Victor Frankenstein with James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe; I knew Igor wasn’t a real character, but I love the dynamic they had in the movie and how Victor accepted Igor, who was seen as a real monster in society because of his back hunch. Oh!! And if I need a laugh (and if y’all like Gene Wilder) Young Frankenstein!! (I also like the musical!)

I’d give the book a high-rating! It’s a classic, and thanks to Mary Shelley we wouldn’t have probably the most iconic Halloween/spooky creature ever! I love Halloween and would love to do something for with a Bride of Frankenstein costume!!

I have so many more books that I bought but haven’t read yet, but what I’m going to read next is a book called Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts! I started reading last summer but then I stopped which is a shame because it’s very good! If you like gods and goddesses (sort of like Percy Jackson) and adventures and beaches this book is great! (I also stole it from my grandma, but don’t think it’s only for old ladies it’s really good!!)

Wow I’ve been away too long!

Hi everyone! My name is Kerry Kadel, I’m 18 years old and I wrote a book last year titled The Boy on the Roof! It’s my proudest achievement and I’d love for everyone to have a go at it. I remember how throughout middle school - high school there was so much pressure around to be dating someone, and if you weren’t, you were a loser or deemed unattractive. Your relationship status was like a social status, and if you’ve never been in one, you’re inexperienced and missing out.

I always thought to myself, what about the work I put into my personal interests? What about the friends I build deep connections with? What about me just being capable of taking care of myself? I feel like there was a lack of emphasis of being your own self and not giving a shit about what other people are doing back in middle school / high school.

While some people may think it’s important to have had previous relationship experiences before (which yeah, it works for some people that way), there’s also nothing wrong with investing that time in yourself and your friendships, and placing yourself first ✌🏻
