In theory for writing promotion, but mostly for fandom right now. Star Trek, Forever, Horatio Hornblower, LOTR/Hobbit mostly, smatterings of Doctor Who, Avatar (Korra and TLA), Marvel and whatever else catches my fancy. Also cats.

The Morning Pages are Falling Apart (Like the Rest of My Life)
JulyAugust books: 4/6 (Your Perfect Year, which I got for free from Amazon at some point and started reading, like, two years ago. Translated from German.) Ah, squiders. I opened this to write this post days ago. Alas. The two jobs continue. And shall for another three weeks. Yesterday I had to do both in person, which was a lot, but it was nice to see my old coworkers and check in with them…

Shannara Readthrough: Angel Fire East
August books: Still 3/6 (also in the middle of 3, because I am a mess) (Also as a note, I read the last book in this a year ago. May need to speed things up a bit.) If you’re new ’round these parts, let me tell you about the Shannara series. This is a high fantasy-esque series of many books, and was my introduction to the fantasy genre through The Wishsong of Shannara. And here we are, 30 years…

Pondering MileHiCon
Evening, squiders! I’m going mad but on we blindly stumble. July books: 3/6 (Angel Fire East) If you guys have been here for a while, you know that I attend MileHiCon every October and have for about a decade or so. It’s a lovely convention, specifically focused on science fiction and fantasy literature, and they let me do panels and feel like a real author for a weekend, and I’ve been on…

New Fear Unlocked
August books: 2/6 (The Tea Master and the Detective) Well, squiders. The last few weeks have been rough, as we talked about on…Wednesday? But at least I’m mostly keeping up with my morning pages, so I’m getting some writing done. Right? RIGHT?? Maybe not, apparently. Like I suspect many writers, I am always looking to learn new things. I take occasional classes, watch webinars, read blogs,…

Odds and Ends
Good grief, squiders, I don’t mean to be abandoning you for a WHOLE WEEK. This job transition has been a lot, and to top it off, school is starting right in the middle of it. (I told my old job I’d work remotely 5-8 hours a week to help with transition and training and doing the stuff that only I do while they replace me–or don’t–and this was a Mistake. It’s rough going from one job immediately…

Why is Everything So Violent These Days?
Morning, squiders. I did my training for my new job yesterday, and I have one week left in-person at my old job (I’m going to support them for a further month part-time and remotely). Weird times. August book goal: 6 (currently zero) (And the goal shall remain 6 until we catch back up.) I didn’t actually get to go to the coffee shop on Friday, but I did have some coffee at the Cub Scout camp…

I Haven't Had Coffee in Four Days
July books: Still 4/6, alas Afternoon, squiders. I haven’t had coffee in four days. And you know what? It has changed absolutely nothing. (I had some pain around my lower sternum, and I thought it was stomach pain, and I’ve run into issues with coffee before. But it turns out it is NOT my stomach. My sternum hurts. Maybe I ran into something.) I’m immune to caffeine, so having coffee or not…

Still in Upheaval Mode
July books: 4/6 (Reign of the Fallen) Good evening, squiders. My major stressors are essentially taken care of, but I’m still having a lot of anxiety as this is an era of change. (I’m switching jobs, and I have now taken care of telling my old job and finalizing the details on the new job.) I’m sure everything will be fine once I have settled into my new role but for now everything is a…

Back in Business
Good afternoon, squiders, I am writing to you on my laptop, which has been wiped and re-populated (and, while I have not yet re-opened House Flipper to see the state of things, it does say it’s up to date in the cloud, so I have high hopes). (The resolution is a little off where it was before, but all the numbers are right, so who even knows.) I’ve also gotten new headphones that I bought from…

Chaos and Mayhem
I have been having a very strange week, squiders. Also a very stressful week. Something that is not easy in general is proving to be harder than anticipated, which helps nothing. BUT. I do have a new refrigerator as of yesterday. And it came two weeks earlier than expected. (Our last one started leaking for no foreseeable reason about…a month ago? Six weeks ago? It took us three days to get it…

Unplanned Books
Hey ho, squiders. Madness! And so forth. (Still 3/6 on the July books.) I don’t know about you, squiders, but whenever I go someplace for a few days for a more relaxing sort of vacation, and there’s books sitting around, I tend to read them. I always take books with me. But there’s something about a book that can only be read while you are in that particular location that is very interesting…

In My Pinterest Era
July books: 3/6 (Native Star, The Owls’ House, and A Posse of Princesses) Hey, squiders, sorry! Didn’t mean to disappear for two weeks! I wish I could say that I have gotten SO much done in that time, but I sure haven’t. (Where was I, even? Hold on.) I’d like to say that I’ve spent the last two weeks brainstorming on Broken Mirrors, and I have solved all its myriad of problems, and am ready…

oh my GOD this is the best thing I have ever seen
I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.
My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813

A Month of Morning Pages
June Books: 7/9 (Haunting Ecologies) Alas, but hey, much better than being nine books behind! We’ll set a goal of six books for July and see how we do. So, if you guys remember a month ago, I came home from my retreat on June 1 and decided I was going to try a morning pages exercise out of a writing book called Writing Down the Bones. Unlike other times I’ve seen morning pages brought up, this…

More Broken Mirrors, and Other Musings
Howdy, squiders, did you miss me? I wasn’t gone, I’ve just been sitting on this post for two days. Oh, yeah. June books: 6/9 (The Poison Season and The Productivity Project) Can we read three books in the next three days? Maybe! I’m in the middle of four, so it’s not completely unreasonable (though I’m less than half way through all four, so). I finished reading through the draft of Broken…

Delving In
Evening, squiders. Last week, with your lovely help (it’s amazing what I can work through as I write things out here on the blog), I decided to leave off the World’s Edge revision until the critique marathon is over and use it like a beta reader, and then come back to the revision in August. In the meantime, I made a list of things to do: Outline at least 5 short stories that take place in the…
