How I'm thinking they met

Met the reader in the subway. It was a rush hour and the train was packed and she was standing in front of him. He didn't pay attention at first just scrolling on his phone. Until he looked up and they accidentally made eye contact. He fell so quickly, he couldn't stop looking at her as she squirmed. His gaze making her uncomfortable, she thought he was handsome but why would he be looking at her. Reader doesn't question her beauty but it's still weird.

Offered her his seat but she refused as it was already hard to get around and her hips weren't about to fit in that space. He insists but she keeps refusing. Eventually they both drop the conversation but Landon doesn't stop looking at her. Taking in every inch of her, even sneaking a picture the best he can.

Things he starts to do

He starts purposely missing his usual train to take the same one as reader. Once this starts to affect his schedule he changes it so it can fit. Doesn't even need to talk to reader as long as he gets to look at her.

Observes everything about her. Her style, purse, pins, keychains, anything! To try and get more information on her, soon enough he catches a glimpse of a tag on her purse. That's how he gets her name and quickly takes it to social media.

Starts to purposely push people out, makes sure there's a seat next to him. Once this fails the first couple times and reader doesn't sit next to him he re-thinks. From observing he notices she tries to take as little space as she can. And from media he finds out people complain about plus size people sitting next to them. So he starts to stand, stands next to her, glances at her phone, down her shirt, and into her bag if he can!

Subway can get pretty rough so when they hit a rough patch he always uses it as an excuse to get closer. Putting his hand on the bar next to her, "stumbling" into her, grabbing her so she "doesn't fall" all with that innocent charm of his.

Diary keeping. Writes down everything! Even if it's the smallest glance it will have almost a whole page. What reader wore, if she had a snack, how she looked, and not only the stuff you can see. But the stuff he's imagining, the bra color, the beauty marks, the positions.

He starts incorporating her into the things he does. I'm not sure what I want Landon to work as but reader does make her way into it. If it's art she is his muse, he draws her and paints her body all the time. Over and over making sure every detail is just right not leaving a single mark. If it's music, his lyrics describe her. The plush of her hips, his need to grab and bite. If it's business or something of the sorts he creates things that allows plus size people to be more included. Like more sizing, open spaces, and things he knows she will like.

Reader isn't Landon's type.

By reader not being Landon's "type" I mean he has never been with a bigger woman. He's stereotyped to be seen with that classic skinny, blonde, and blued eyes. It will play into the gaslighting and manipulation I have planned for him to do.

Landon is used to getting what he wants.

Even if he has to fight for it he will have it. Anything and anyone. He's patient and will achieve. Yes, this does mean he would kill for reader.

Reader makes Landon feel like he's never felt hormones before.

He's confused himself because he's never been shy with women, always had options. So the way that he can't get her out of his head is insane to him. Spends hours and hours just thinking about reader, drawing, writing, rewatching videos he's taken, printing pictures, picking out gifts to send her, and watching porn but looking for her. Anyone that looks like her but it's never enough because it's not reader!

I'm so happy and grateful for the support on the first post! So here's some stuff I have planned for Landon. Definitely more to come and more scenes!

5. Create a Playlist 

Arrange your favorite tracks in a way that suits your writing mood. Music can be a powerful tool to set the tone and mood. It helps you feel relaxed and aid scene projections. It also enhances your creativity.

6. Join an Active Writer's Community 

Yes, it's that important. Whether it's an online forum or a local group, being part of a community provides valuable feedback and critique. Engaging with fellow writers also offer support and motivation.

7. Build Your Social Presence  

I feel this isn't addressed enough. If you want people to get invested in your work, start promoting your book and what you do even before it's finished. Share your journey and let people fall in love with your process and personality.

8. Write a List of Comfortable Spots  

Identify and list the places where you feel most comfortable and productive while writing. Having a go-to spot can help you get into the right mindset.

9. Research Writing Tools 

Explore various writing tools and find the ones that work best for you. Discard the rest to avoid clutter and distraction.

10. Invest in Writing Courses  

If you can, take courses that will help you improve your craft. Courses are now made into digestible sections, covering an important segment of writing in elucidating details, which saves you the hassle of paying high figures for a course.

Lastly, go easy on yourself 

Understand that some days will be unproductive, and others will exceed your expectations. This doesn't make you any less of a writer. Love yourself for what you do, appreciate your work for what it is, and value your effort no matter the outcome. You need to love your work first before others will.

World Building

It is important for you to understand how your fantasy world runs. It would make things a whole lot easier to write a novel if you understand how things work in this world. I would recommend planning out some information before you start your writing journey. I have briefly discussed some other helpful tips for writing a fantasy book before too! 1. Think about the currency/currencies in your world, do you want it to use coins or something different? Just like the world we live in, you cannot travel to a place that doesn't need some aspect of currency, whether it is dollars, euros or something else. A very simple idea could be using buttons for a currency.

2. What are the jobs and their purposes? How respected are they in society?

3. This links to number 2, but what is the agriculture and crop growing like? How needed are the farmers? Do plants grow via magic, photosynthesis or something else?

4. How does the world work through trading, communication, travel and combat?

5. How big are the villages, cities and locations in your world?

6. Who are the Gods/deities in your world and how did they create the world. Are there any in particular who are of importance? Why, why not?

7. What could be some of the stories in your world that have been told and passed down for generations? Are they myths, truths or does no one know?

8. What is the education system like?

9. Plan your magic system! For example, it could be generated through energy, a magic crystal, a gift from a God, who may have gifted something to the living beings in order to help them exist in some way.

10. Think about the names of your locations, if needed I can do a separate post dedicated to naming a place.

11. Impacts of characters. Why is your character good for the world/bad for the world? Are they even necessary to the plot, if not, think about if they even need to be written about.

12. How is their food prepared and made?

13. What are the politics like through voting systems and laws etc? Who are the people in charge?

things im struggling on: who is the killer? what is their motive? how do i make it not obvious?

im trying to write a murder mystery book that connects the past to the present---basically what happens is there's this school, something bad (murder) happened in the past (wayyy back, like the 1890s) and something bad's happening NOW

i dont want it to be paranormal, or secret society bc i feel that's been done thousands of times

i'm sure you've heard that advice countless times before but take it from someone who's got adhd and never finishes anything in her life: if you're stuck on a scene/a chapter of your story, write about something else. like, skip to the next scene, the next chapter, or even some chapter further down the story. write it down, because when you do, what should happen before that will come to you much easier, and you won't have been wasting time thinking about that one bit you couldn't get right

He knows readers routine so he knows exactly when to text you. Changes his own to fit yours so if you sleep early or late so does he. If you have trouble at night he tries to text you through it. And if you take any kind of meds or like to drink anything before bed he'd remind you. Maybe even send you a picture of his own cup.

"It's 7, baby. Time for your meds and tea"

"there's nothing to worry about. Just sleep I'll watch over you."

"it's all in your mind, pretty girl. Dim those lights, play your videos or music and go to sleep."

He loves the night routine more than the morning routine. Sees it as more intimate and personal. The morning can get chaotic at times and it doesn't let him admire you properly.

He lusts a lot for you so not everything is soft.

"why don't you slip that pretty hand of yours into those panties?"

"I'd eat you out to sleep if I could ... Maybe fuck you silly till you pass out"

Loves how you react doesn't matter if it's in a negative or positive way. If you're scared he'd keep comforting you that all the fear is in your mind. There's no monster out to get you it's all sleep anxiety or paranoia. He isn't a monster, he just loves you. If you have really bad sleep troubles he'd definitely find a way to mix some kind of sleeping pill or sedative into your tea or food.

"Don't race your pretty mind. I'd never hurt you"

But if you give into the lust? He'd lose it. Screen records from the cameras he put in your room. Definitely strokes himself with you, your his personal little porn star but doesn't wanna call you that because your such a treasure to him.

"just like that pretty girl. Slip that hand under the sheets."

"why don't you take those sheets off? Let me see properly. Show me those pretty curves"

"see? Didn't that leave you satisfied and sleepy? I know what's best for you."

Definitely sends you a picture of his own mess.

The only way he'd miss your nighttime routine is if he's settling someone for you. And even then he'd stop mid torture or kill for text you.

"i can't join you for our normal nights, baby. But I'll check in later. Have a goodnight and sweet dreams, pretty girl. I will always love you."

Adventures in Librarian-ing

This week I've been reading How This Book Was Made by Mac Barnett to the Grade 1 to 3 classes.

When I announced the title of the book to one of the Grade 1 classes one of the kids raised their hand and asked me if I'd ever written a book.

"Kinda," I replied, "My mom's a children's author and she wrote a dictionary for kids. I helped her with keeping track of things like which words were being added to the dictionary. Because there are a lot of words out there ("There sure are!" one of the kiddos agreed) and no dictionary can have all of them, right? So she had to pick out what words to put in and leave out."

^ I worked on this dictionary. It sold over a million copies.

I’ve felt kind of off about my book recently, I’ve had a lot of rejection and I’ve started to think maybe I should just quit.

But then I think: what if one day it’s real? What if one day there is an actual book in the world, with a real cover and real pages and my name written on the real spine? And what if people read it? Maybe one day there’ll be people who want to keep it perfect, who don’t even want to crack the spines, who will lament over the slightest crease to the pretty pretty cover, who’ll keep their copy on a clean, beautiful shelf so pristine and perfect, who’ll share with the pages their favourite book mark with it’s pattern or it’s quote or it’s ribbon or the thousand other things that could make it special; maybe one day there’ll be people who will fold the pages, who’ll crack the spine, who’ll panic because they accidentally dropped it in the bath, who’ll underline their favourite quotes with their favourite pencil that they always have to tell themselves to stop chewing the end of; maybe one day there’ll be people who’ll put pen against the pages, who’ll draw stars and hearts in the margins, who’ll share their every thought on every page that was worth something enough to them to write on; maybe one day there’ll be people who’ll choose the perfect coloured tabs to match the cover, who’ll create a key, who’ll deem me worthy of their favourite highlighters, who’ll be able to look at the pages of their closed copy, run their fingers over those perfect coloured tabs, and see their thoughts as they read laid out before them; maybe one day there’ll be people who’ll borrow it from libraries, who’ll wipe dust from the cover, even if it’s slightly faded with time beneath the plastic sheath who’ll write their names on a card glued neatly into the front so they are part of it forever.

What if I am lucky enough to one day see a book that is not just my soul, but the souls of readers as well?
