Resenha -"Ela se Tornou o Sol" por Shelley Parker-Chan

Esse livro realmente nos faz pensar sobre o quão longe somos capazes de ir para realizar nossos desejos.

Desafiando seu destino, a filha toma para si mesma o nome de seu irmão, Zhu Chongba, e com ele a grandeza que foi prevista para a vida dele.

Desesperada para sobreviver, ela busca refúgio em um mosteiro, onde esconde sua real identidade de todas as formas possíveis, mesmo que tenha de sofrer ou arruinar a vida de outra pessoa. Ela se acomoda na vida monástica, até que o destino bate à porta na forma do General Eunuco, personagem complexo e amargo que dá a partida no destino de Zhu rumo à grandeza.

O livro segue duas diferentes perspectivas. De um lado, Zhu, buscando a grandeza prometida a seu irmão com um desespero que só pode ser comparável a alguém sedento em busca de água. Do outro lado, o General Eunuco, um nativo que cresceu entre os invasores mongóis, cuja imagem para os outros lhe causa grande vergonha e cuja vida serve a um único propósito, que ele tentou adiar.

Assim como Zhu partiu em busca da grandeza impulsionada pelas ações do General, ele também é confrontado com seu próprio destino graças às ações de Zhu.

A jornada de Zhu é às vezes interessante, mas parece fácil demais em alguns pontos, dependendo muito de sorte e do suposto ‘destino’. Ela é um personagem interessante, mas muitas vezes irritante.

O General, por outro lado, enquanto também enervante em muitas cenas, tem uma complexidade que não deixa de amarrar o leitor. Ele está constantemente dividido entre seus desejos e o que acredita ser seu dever.

O livro aborda temas como gênero, sexualidade e disforia de gênero. A autora descreveu o livro como uma ‘reimaginação queer da ascensão ao poder do imperador fundador da dinastia Ming’.

No geral, pode-se dizer que é uma leitura interessante e instigante.

Has anyone read the comics? I read the first chapter and I already understood that this is pretty normal for the story, which I think is amazing because it's normal in reality too, if you guys don't know.

Without wanting to offend readers or those who liked The Sandman, I'm a little frustrated because here in Brazil it's been kind of ridiculous how much people are talking and criticizing the LGBTQ+ representation and the black representation of the show.

I don’t think I could talk about The Sandman on here because, like, Neil Gaiman is here, just hanging out. I’d be like “Oh, I like how they visualized this one scene, it was different from the comics but I don’t think they original comics visualizations would have worked in live action “ or whatever And then Neil Gaiman might appear like “Yeah, we were having trouble figuring out how to do that scene until one of our production designers had a vivid hallucination while eating a 3AM Gyro purchased from an all-night food truck outside the Bass Pro Shop pyramid” and I don’t think I’m ready for that experience. Alternatively, I could say “Dream is a little too scrungly to be a classic Tumblr Sexyman, but he is prime meow-meow blorbo material” and Neil Gaiman might appear and say “Yeah, we were having trouble figuring out the exact ratio of Sexyman, poor little meow meow, and Blorbo, but the final characterization appeared to Tom Sturridge in a vivid hallucination while eating a 3AM Gyro purchased from an all-night food truck outside the Bass Pro Shop pyramid” and I don’t think I’m ready for THAT either.
