🛑🛑❗💥💥Here is why a lot of developers fail getting anything done! 🤔 Imagine this: You just had a great idea! The best idea you ever head! You are super fired up! You immediately start to work on it! You set up a new project. You work on it for hours. You start to think about how your new fancy super app should look. You even have a basic implementation running right now but then you see that one thing that you don't like. It is just that very small thing that probably nobody except you will ever see but still, you work on it! Suddenly you worked longer on that tiny unimportant feature and it still not working. Suddenly you lost interest in that project! You stop working on it and you are frustrated that another project failed 😰. Does this sound familiar to you? To me, it does because I had this problem too. Here is what stands in your way: You want to be perfect without understanding the concepts! It is a bad habit! You freeze and worry about how something can be perfect instead of getting it done! Here is how you can overcome perfectionism: - Be aware that you are being a perfectionist. - Set a time when your project/tasks have to be done. If you not then you move on. - Plan in advance what you actually want to get done. - Think that perfectionism can be something bad and can actually be insecurity - Think that doing 50% is still more than 0% It's not that hard as you see! The biggest point is that you have to be aware of the fact that perfectionism is in your way of reaching your goals! 😱💥💥Here is how you learn new things fast and get better fast! I need to learn new things daily! I was so bad at it you can imagine! Really it was bad! Then I learned about learning and making it stick! Usually, if you are bad at planing you are also bad at learning because believe it or not both belong together! You have to plan your learning! Actually, to be productive you have to plan way more but let's stay focused! So here is how I learn the best and I think it works for every type of learner! 1. Grab a piece of paper or your phone or your laptop it really does not matter! I personally use trello. It is a Kanban app! 2. Write down in one sentence or word what you want to learn! Example time! I would write something like: "I want to learn how vuejs works". "I need to understand what graphql is". 3. Write down what topic you can learn right now! With right now I mean the time you have RIGHT NOW to learn! Let's say it is an hour. "I want to understand the basic wording of vuejs". So in trello I would have a board named: "Learn vuejs" and in the "things to do" board, there would be one item named after the thing I can learn right now! 4. Start to learn and try to learn as much as you can in that hour! While learning write or type what was new for you and what you understood. The important thing here is: Write it in your own words! 5. After the hour is over. Read through your notes. See if you understand everything. 6. Before you start your next session. The best coding advice I ever got: Take a break!⁣ ⁣ I was sitting in front of the computer and I needed to shake my head to still see the code in focus. It was 3 am in the night. I just wanted to power through that scroll bug that made the hole page slow when a user scrolled!⁣ ⁣ I just could not figure it out! So I wrote a friend who was also still online. ⁣ ⁣ He told me one of the best coding advice I ever got: You need to take a break! You are probably too deep in the problem so that you don't see the actual problem.⁣ ⁣ I was so tired that I just went to bed. I still did not feel good and would rather stay up to fix the bug.⁣ ⁣ So I woke up and made me a fresh coffee and start up my computer. With a fresh cup of coffee, I was thinking that I will need at least 4 hours to solve that scroll bug.⁣ ⁣ BOOM! Then the solution hit me like a train that runs at 300 km/h! Today I was asked by a friend that studies Computer Science that wants to switch to a Developer position. How he/she can do it! Here is what I would do: I would tell my self that practical knowledge is as important as theoretical knowledge. Remind my self why I want this! Make it clear to myself that this is what I want! This step is tremendously important! Here is why: Your boss or whoever decided can smell uncertainty. Your like this small rabbit that is just waiting to be hunted by that bigger strong wolf! You want to be a big brown bear 🐻! Then I would go to my boss a clearly state the facts: "I want to become a developer actually I want to become a remarkable developer! At my current position, I feel stuck and unhappy. I want that junior developer position." Now I would say nothing! I know silence can be painful but don't say anything! Wait for the answer. Either your boss will say yes and you won 🎉! Maybe he will say no or maybe he will try to say we can not do it right now maybe in half a year or some other excuses. Then you take your next swing. This is what I would say: "I really appreciate your answer and I really like to work here. This is a great company but I want to grow and I will take the chance and also apply at other companies for a developer position because this is what I want and if I can not do that I can not give 100% to you and your company!" Again here are 2 outcomes either your boss will say okay you have the dev position or your boss will let you go! Both are fine! You now know where you stand and that you never had the chance to get that developer position anyway! You know that you will be fantastic developer so you are not afraid of not getting a job! You will know that a better company will see the value you can bring to that company! Have a fantastic day!
