“Scrap to Steel” is a playable videogame prototype on itch.io - you play as a dwarven blacksmith in a medieval fantasy world where aliens are invading your world and all your typical fantasy figures are teaming up to fight the common enemy! Go on the battlefield, collect materials while evading enemies, craft and repair weapons, sell them - rinse and repeat.
This was a 4 day University group project where I was responsible for establishing the color pallet and overall visual style for the game by designing and illustrating all the characters and some other 2D stuff. AKA all the stuff I included here :P
It was definitely a fun experience. Normally I’m not really interested in this genre of games (I love me some psychological horror) but I learned a ton from this. If I could go back in time, I would have done a lot of things differently but I’m still thankful for the opportunity. After all, this is the first ever game I have helped with.

Extraterrestrial Investigator - Animatic
Created this animatic for one of my University assignments (yes, I did get get into it with the “My Memories Of Her” concept, among othe projects :P) and I chose the prompt “phone call”.
Decided to go with a film noir inspired look and story that involves an alien detective living amongst humans in the middle of L.A. who, thanks to his hat, can transform into his human disguise to stay undercover. A lonely investigator with a missing daughter who happens to be held captive in Area 51 for experiments, with the animatic itself showing him learning of this information.
I originally planned for him to be a simple human, with no mention of any aliens at all, but I’m glad I went with this instead. I think the extraterrestrial spin gave it a bit more uniqueness. I do wish I had done a few things differently… for example I don’t think it’s quite clear that it is the hat that allows him to transform in the first place. But you live and you learn. It’s only my 2nd ever animatic and I think I’ve already improved a bit compared to my first one :-) And that’s what counts.
You can find this animatic and the other one on my YouTube channel.

Happy new year!
Working on an animatic for school, will probably post it here too once I’m finished :D Maybe also some illustration I have had to do. Just an art dump of them.
Hope I have enough time this year though to do a small comic or two… work and Uni is keeping me busy. Working on a children’s book too. Commission work so not my own story. One day!

My first ever animatic - “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”
Made this as 1 of 3 projects for my portfolio to apply to Uni - and I got accepted, hurray!

Looking back ,now that I finished this months ago, I’d do a LOT of things differently if I had to give this another go. For one, I’d keep the shading way more minimalistic. I WAS aware that it’s not ideal to make it this detailed from the get go but honestly, I mostly did it for the fun of it.
Next up, I would have tweaked the design of the female character. Exaggerate the features more (especially body pasture) to highlight the fact that she is an old woman.
Lastly, I should have played WAY more around with the “camera” angles. Utilize more interesting perspectives (maybe add more backgrounds too) because as is, there is too much focus on shots of faces.
But on the other hand, it will probably be satisfying to look back on this flawed project in a couple of years and see the progress I’ve made since then! And I’m still proud that I DID manage to finish this. I actually got the initial motivation for this a couple years ago… I still have an old post talking about it up on this exact blog :P But back then it seemed too daunting so I put it off. Crazy how things work out.
Maybe I’ll return to this in the future if I ever feel like it. And if I do an animatic for the entire song, I’d give it a different story with other characters.

Just one more month and I’m finally in a new town with my own place!!
A bit small but I’m happy to finally get out. Already have a new part-time job secured as a graphic artist but if it’s not too much I wanna get one at a funeral home too :-)
You know, try to be completely independent.

Love the concepts for your game/comic! It reminds me a lot of Sally Face and Fran Bow, I hope you're able to make it someday!
Thanks a ton! I LOVED Fran Bow back when it first came out. Still do! The comparison always make me giddy :)

The Marriage of Art and Artist
I don’t really know any passionate artists in my close circle of friends but I felt like sharing my thoughts around the topic of art!
Maybe it’s a bit of a weird statement but I remember that I already in childhood sort of considered myself “married” to it. Like I knew that I’d wanna spend my whole lifetime on it. And in my mind I do still sort of equate it to being like a marriage.
You first fall in love and it’s really really good for a while. And then it stops being good. You work on it, and with enough effort it gets good again. And then it’s bad again! Sometimes it really beats down your own self esteem, sometimes it lifts it.
Like a never ending cycle, a relationship with huge ups and downs. Trying to chase that high you had when you first fell in love with the whole thing.
Sometimes it does get a bit unhealthy admittedly. As a teenager I got really stuck inside my own head with all sorts of fantasies I had. Maybe even a bit too determined to improve because I did neglect some friendships and let opportunities pass by.

Please don't feed the horses! III
Blue black calligraphy ink on paper. The most recent piece in my carnivorous horses series. I really like how the grass almost looks like a wave and that the horse is more sinister in this version.

Scanned some DoD / Drakengard doodles from my sketchbook and decided to play around with the colors!
Might continue one or more of them, I really like the idea of illustrating the death scene of Angelus and Caim.

They way Jane's appearance changes..... I love the whole concept so much!!! You did such great work, not to mention the backgrounds and the maps? Ngl I would love to play this game, but whatever form this story takes it will be awesome
Thank you!! Took a lot of time, almost gave up at one point. I’m happy I pulled through - partially because I’m glad to see how many people are connecting with the concept. Both Jane and the Narrator have a lot of myself in them (and of past friends too).
I think once I’m more confident in my writing abilities I might start working on it again.
