‘All Hail’ It feels right to announce this song now, given the current climate. In this post is a snippet of the piece - just the intro. This song mocks the bigots and far-right extremists that seek to spread their hate and intolerance. Very much looking forward to continuing to work on this with @jsandovul @drew_mill @theonlybaptie @ross.mackenzie.music #BeAfraid #AllHail #ScottishBands #SomethingWickedThisWayComes #RockMusic (at Pirate Studios) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClqleymMC2O/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Interview with Ross Mackenzie @rossmackenzie02 What attracted you to play drums? Drums are an instrument that are very much at the forefront, very attention-grabbing. When I was younger, it was me, my Mum, my Dad and my sister in the car, and it was always old classics playing - like Queen, Pink Floyd, David Bowie - in which drums were very loud, and they drew people in. Drums were a constant; not going off, not stringing out, just staying where it is. Where did you begin in school with music? I really loved music in first year in music class. I wasn’t the most academic - I wasn’t stupid, but I was in this middle ground. I found music as a sort of escape from the poems of English classes and the diagrams of chemistry classes. I could be me in music and let my mind wander and nerd out for an hour or so. It’s like these people that find books as their happy place - they don’t want to be in a large crowded place; they’d rather be in a wee room with a book. I’m like that, but I want to be in a big room with a lot of instruments! It’s my way of getting away from everything. What style of drumming do you most enjoy? I don’t think that there’s one particular style I enjoy the most, but I do think that there are styles that I prefer more than others. My top 3 would be rock, punk, and swing. Punk is very open - you can put anything in there and immediately get something out of it. It’s very raw and emotional. Swing reminds me of my grandad on my dad’s side, because he was in that kind of band when he was younger. He was the one who introduced me to music; he had a room with a piano, and a drum pad, and an old record player. I was surrounded by music all the time and I just loved it. Are there any drummers that particularly inspire you? Drummers as a whole are the figureheads that I like to look up to because they’ve done what they love, and they’ve carried that through. Specific drummers that inspire me range from people like Travis Barker, Mike Portnoy, to Buddy Rich and Luke Holland who are so technically focused. Who are your favourite artists? Queen, Blink 182, Slipknot... Read the full interview on the Facebook page post! (at Cumbernauld) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Nsw9CBAGt/?igshid=fqa6rgtycjj6

INTERVIEW WITH CALLUM BAPTIE @theonlybaptie What do you play? I play guitar, I guess [laughs]. I play an epiphone Les Paul. I’ve had it since I was 17, and I’ve been playing it on stage for that whole time. It’s the one I like the most - I think it’s best for rhythm and has that sturdy feel to it, so I feel that I can lay into it as much as I like and throw it around, play it as rough as I like and it just kind of takes whatever punishment I give it. Guitars I’ve played on previous projects have been a bit more delicate and kind of finesse-orientated, so I could play more lead work with Floyd Rose floating bridges and stuff like that. It wasn’t what I wanted for this project, as it’s more punk-rock and I needed something that would just do exactly as I told it. What’s your favourite song so far? My favourite song I think is the scottish song. I read Drew’s interview and wanted to make something up - lie about it so that we had something different - but it’s also my favourite song! It’s simplistic on my part but I can really get into the song and get into the vibe of it and play away. I think for non-vocalists it has a massive advantage because there’s more space in the song. On other songs there’s a lot happening and you spend a lot of time concentrating; playing the notes rather than focusing on the music as a whole. Tell me about your previous work Aside from this project, I have my own solo singer-songwriter project as well. I work away on that when the inspiration comes. I quite enjoy singing, and I expect that I’ll be laying down some backing vocals on this - like I laid down some vocals on the Golden Heart EP. I also really like writing, so my solo project gives me an opportunity to express that side a little bit more. At the moment, I’m enjoying doing a lot more covers as well after I took a break once I had finished my own EP - Regression. I wrote Regression over a period of 2 or 3 years, and I had a whole bunch of songs. I slowly whittled them down to the ones that I felt were really, really top quality. So, it’s a mix of the songs I wrote when I was a teenager, and those I wrote as... Every week this month on Mondays, I’ll be introducing you to another member of my band! This week, you can read my interview below with Drew Mill! (@drew_mill) “What do you play? In this, I play bass, but I can play guitar, mandolin, ukulele... Oh and I also play the vocal cords! My bass is a Squier PJ bass that i have modified myself, I kept the body and neck and replaced everything else. The electrics are Active EMG pickups, with a ceramic coil centre. I removed volume control so it’s just a tone knob. My other bass is just a Jim Deacon P bass which is standard, as is. It’s currently getting worked on and I can’t pick it up due to lockdown. I got it second hand for £50 and cleaned it up and resoldered the electrics. What bass would you buy with unlimited funds? Ooh, well for the band I’d get a Gretsch hollow body long scale. That’s what I used to have, but I had to sell it for money... For me, I would love to have a Gretsch 12 string bass in green. They sound incredible. They’re about £3,000.00 though! What’s your favourite song so far in the band? It’d have to be the Scottish song hands down. It’s a riff that I came up with that’s been changed and messed about with. It’s so fun to play and is such an upbeat song. It’s the kind of thing I love playing. You just know everyone is going to be tapping their feet and jumping about. That was a welcome change to some of the weird stuff I’ve played in the past. It wasn’t what I was expecting to be playing when I joined the band. What were you expecting to play? I don’t know! I was expecting some really...” Interview continued on the full Facebook post!
