TEKKEN fanfic rec!!
I wanted to come on here to rec a fanfic I read a while back because it genuinely changed the trajectory of my life!!
its called 'morning rain'
https://archiveofourown.org/works/16316879/chapters/38167871
In this fic xiaoyu is the protagonist and she wants to ultimately save jin from the devil gene as they all take part in the 5TH tournament (considering how old this fic is lmao)
The story goes into depth about xiaoyu as a character and her growing over time as she learns things from new and old people and if she actually loves jin or is it only friendship ? it also tackles how corrupting the devil gene is and how it affects everyone around them and not only Jin.
This fic is genuinely so interesting and the plot is really strong as it portrays all the characters in a complex light no matter how relevant they are to the main story.
The story is super well written and it may have even done a better job of tackling Jin and the devil gene in comparison to Blood vengeance...
Its not a romance story considering Xiaoyu's ultimate goal is to help and save Jin but there are some romantic elements with her and hwoarang which DO grow over the chapters....
but this fanfiction really does a good job of highlighting the characters better than Bandai namco as it gives them even more backround and purpose!
lmao I just realised how shallow this all sounds but its only because I don't want to spoil the plot as its genuinely really good and I think everyone should read it at least ONCE in their life

No hate to the original poster but Asuka is in no position to be in the Tekken trio.
The Tekken trio came to be in Tekken 3 where they had a time skip and introduced a new generation of fighters. This included Jin Kazama, Ling Xiaoyu and Hwoarang
(also Eddy Gordo if you wanna count him but he’s not that relevant)
On the other hand, Asuka wasn’t introduced until MUCH later (Tekken 5). By this time the tekken trio consisted of pretty established characters as well as the idea of them being a trio itself being established.
Even in Tekken bloodline (the Netflix anime lmao), Jin, Hwoa, xiao were depicted as THE trio.
Also again the relevancy of the characters matter. With Jin being the MC and Hwoarang being his rival + Xiaoyu being Jins potential love interest.
They all have important links to Jin and they’ve both known Jin for a VERY long time now.
Although Asuka knew about Jin, she didn’t care about him and neither did Jin lmao. Besides, Asuka only recent discovered she’s related to Jin in Tekken8 and she still didn’t really gaf😭
Even without all this context, Asuka feels so random in the Tekken trio?? Jin is stoic and cold, Xiaoyu is bubbly and ambitious, Hwoarang is hotheaded and brash.
Asuka is like the female ver of Hwoarang if he was a Tsundere and related to Jin💔
The original post was giving reasons to shipping Asuka and Hwoarang btw and the thread was actually somewhat decent. BUT I think you can still ship them without slapping Asuka into the OG Tekken trio.
RIP Asuka Kazama, may you have a character redemption🙏
Also long live Xiaorang.

Pt. 3/4 (Pt.1, Pt.2)
HwoaXiao HC's
Hwoarang asked Xiaoyu out...and she said no. A while later she asked him out and he agrees.
They can talk for hours about anything, even when they've run out of things to say.
Hwoarang has tried to be physically affectionate, but somehow Panda always puts her nose in it.
Xiaoyu thinks they're both cute for it.
Xiaoyu's parents have...mixed feelings about Hwoarang thanks to his attitude, but they don't hate him.
Hwoarang isn't close to his family, but Baek is happy to see him with someone he has such an easy dynamic with...most of the time.
Xiaoyu has brought up the idea of children a few times.
Hwoarang will usually disappear for hours to days when she does, and she's taken the hint...
Pt. 4 will be HwoaJinXiao

What a waste of a lovely night (xiaoyu/hwoarang)
(Set in Tekken 7)
The quiet hum of the city was barely audible as Hwoarang and Xiaoyu stood at the edge of the bridge, looking out over the water. The moonlight was soft, casting a silvery glow across the surface, and the night felt endless—like time had slowed down just for them. The weight of their unspoken words hung in the air between them, thick and heavy, like the quiet before a storm.
Xiaoyu wasn’t sure what to make of the situation. They had grown fond of each other , and yet, there was always a distance between them. A tension. She knew that it was there, and maybe, just maybe, he felt it too. But tonight, as they stood there in the stillness, all she could feel was the ache of something lurking in her chest.
Hwoarang was leaning backwards against the railing, his hands in his pockets, his eyes fixed on the darkening clouds in the sky. He seemed as lost in his thoughts as she was. For all his boldness, there was a sense of quietness within him tonight, a rare moment where he wasn’t the cocky, confident fighter everyone knew him to be. He seemed to be waiting for something, but neither of them was sure what it was.
After a few moments of silence, the words came to him—a familiar tune that had popped into his mind, a song from a movie he had watched a long time ago. He wasn’t sure why, but it felt like the right time. Without thinking, he began to sing softly, almost as if he was uncertain..
"The sun is nearly gone, The lights are turning on, A silver shine that stretches to the sea."
Xiaoyu looked at him, surprised for a moment, but then she found herself amused. She didn’t know what had prompted him to sing, but maybe this was the way they were supposed to communicate—through music, through the unspoken things they never said.
Although she was still unsure, Hwoarang continued the song, his voice slowly becoming more certain of the words he sung.
"We've stumbled on a view, That's tailor-made for two, What a shame those two are you and me."
His words carried something more beneath the surface. Xiaoyu could feel the pull between them, and yet, there was a sense of knowing that they weren’t supposed to be together. The song, with its bittersweet lyrics, echoed her own thoughts.
Hwoarang glanced at her as he continued the song, his voice quiet but steady.
"Some other girl and guy Would love this swirling sky, But there's only you and I And we've got no shot."
Xiaoyu’s smile faded for a moment. Her mind flashed an image of Jin and her together, in a moment similar to this one. Maybe hwoarang was picturing this too.
His voice had changed, softened. It almost sounded like a confession. The words were hitting too close to home, but for some odd reason, she felt a bit conflicted about it.
"This could never be, You're not the type for me,"
Xiaoyu’s breath caught in her throat. He had said it out loud, hadn’t he? He was pulling away. But why did it hurt to hear those words? it shouldn't hurt to hear them, right?
She laughed softly, though it was tinged with a bit of disbelief and paint. "..Really?"
He looked at her for a moment, his gaze serious but with a hint of uncertainty. "Yeah," he said quietly. "Really."
Hworang continued the song, and this time, Xiaoyu couldn’t help the knot that tightened in her chest.
"And there's not a spark in sight, What a waste of a lovely night."
She felt a flicker of frustration and sadness, but she didn’t let it show. She wasn’t sure what she had expected, but somehow, she had hoped for something more.
"You say there's nothing here?" she started, her voice clear now, uncertain but still determined. "Well, let's make something clear."
"I think I'll be the one to make that call."
He raised an eyebrow, a bit of a slight smirk tugging at his lips. "But you'll call?" he asked, teasing yet unsure.
Xiaoyu couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped her lips, though it was a little forced. "Yeah, I’ll call." She looked at him, meeting his gaze with a little more resolve. "And though you looked so cute in your polyester suit…"
He scoffed, rolling his eyes. "It’s wool."
"You're right, I'd never fall for you at all," Xiaoyu finished the line with a playful shrug as she turned away from him, although her heart wasn’t entirely in it.
The playful tone of the song didn’t quite mask the reality of what they both knew to be true. There was something between them, but it wasn’t the right time. It couldn’t be.
"And maybe this appeals To someone not in heels, Or to any girl who feels There's some chance for romance."
She playfully pivoted towards him, then spoke casually hiding her hesitation, "But I’m frankly feeling nothing."
Hwoarang straightened his posture and looked at her, his expression more serious now but still tinged with a sense of easiness. He gave a small nod, as if acknowledging something unspoken between them.
"Is that so?"
Xiaoyu nodded, meeting his gaze.
"Or it could be less than nothing," Xiaoyu stepped closer to him as she replied with a small smirk, the execution of her lines hid something more—something deeper.
"Good to know, so you agree?" Hwoarang asked, the teasing edge to his voice still there.
"That's right," Xiaoyu replied, her voice light but with a trace of sadness. eyes locking with his, a finality to her words.
With their gazes locked, they said in unison
"What a waste of a lovely night."
And just like that, the little 'spur of the moment' had passed. They stood there, inches away from an intimate moment, in the silence that followed. The night had indeed been lovely, but it felt like the weight of their unspoken truths hung in the air, leaving them with more questions than answers.
The moonlight reflected off the water, the world still, and for a moment, neither of them could find the words to bridge the gap that had only grown wider and neither of them could find the courage to close the physical gap between them and kiss.
This was based off of the song 'lovely night' from la la land.
HOPE YOU LIKED IT
