This is so touching. I hate how much this question and answer isn't funny in the slightest anymore, thinking about it in the context of losing Liam :(

I hope in another universe Liam is happy and in a good, safe place. And maybe all the boys are together and making music, enjoying themselves.

I keep thinking about that time a fan asked Stephen Hawking about Zayn leaving the band and how he said there are infinite parallel universes and that in at least one, Zayn would still be in One Direction.

The thought that there are infinite parallel universes is comforting to me right now.

Rest in Peace Liam

I can't believe Liam has died. I'm so disturbed by the awful way his life ended and I feel stricken over it. I can't stop thinking about him and how much pain he must have been in.

For a long time I have worried about the 1D boys because it was clear from the start they were being overworked and dealing with an enormous amount of pressure. I honestly don't think teenagers or children should ever be given access to this level of worldwide fame. I know that they had each other and I'm happy for all the success 1D had, but I also know it took a terrible toll of each of them.

I just feel so sad about Liam and how much he's been struggling for a long time now. He wasn't a good person in recent years and clearly hurt people close to him in very serious ways. Yet I feel a lot of sympathy for him and other young performers who deal with substance abuse problems, as a result of their celebrity. It's a very difficult road for most.

I'm thinking of all the boys today and their families. This must be a horrifying nightmare for them. I wish peace and strength for them all.

I hope terribly that one day young people in the music and entertainment industry will have better protections and more care taken to ensure their well-being. No one should suffer and die in this tragic way.

Hate to say it but...

I’m absolutely enjoying the shitshow that is Liam’s recent interview. It’s reminded me of the pure chaotic energy that was One Direction, especially when all five of them were together. 

They were seriously so entertaining. I don’t know if it’s because deep down they all hated each other (or Liam?) or were obsessed with each other, or a combination of both somehow (probably). But I hope Liam will keep spilling the tea because even though it breaks my heart a little bit (okay a lot) it reminds me of the good times 🥲

Louis & Harry Paris Interviews

How many interviews are there of just Louis and Harry? I’m talking video interviews of L + H, sans Niall, Liam or Zayn to babysit them. There seem to only be a grand total of 2. And both took place on the same day. (February 14, 2012…Was it really on Valentine’s Day??) The Teemix interview below is broken up into 4 parts, but it’s all one interview.

This post actually took me longer than you might think because I tried so hard to find other video interviews of H + L. There aren’t any. Shocking, right?

L’Interview Paris - Fan2Fr

Highlights include: 

At 4:30 Louis reading Harry’s Hot and Dangerous on the fan-art: “Of course he’s hot” 

4:51 Harry says of Louis, “I would describe it more as funny and handsome and rugged…A bit more manly” and Louis gives the brightest most amused smile to the camera.

The looks they give each other at the end of the video with the whole ‘dangerous dave(?)’ thing. Many people hear Harry say ‘I’ll get you for that tonight’ in response. I suck at deciphering these things, but it would make sense given  Louis’ laughing reaction to it.

The way they finish each others’ sentences, talking about being normal lads. They seem so in sync and sound so relaxed about it.

At 0:38 – L: We still pop down to the shop every now and again– H: Bread and milk. L: Yep, the standard.

At 0:20 when describing their ideal girl, Harry corrects Louis’ ‘good sense of humour’ comment with ‘GREAT sense of humour’ and Louis nods ‘yeah’ with the most earnest, serious agreement I’ve ever seen from a person in a boyband answering a generic question. They’re clearly describing each other.

This entire segment is a ridiculous display of how calm and in sync these two are. Telling the story of Liam’s chat up lines, agreeing on their favourite date spots (1:35), Louis proudly suggesting ‘cook them their favourite meal’ (2:12), they’re so at ease with each other and so willing to agree on every little thing.

At 2:42 Louis tries to figure out how long he’s been with Eleanor and Harry suggests ‘a year?’. Harry’s just straight-up laughing at this point and again, clearly talking about him and Louis.

‘I would definitely say Harry is the most confident with girls’ and then he GRINS.

The way they’re smiling at each other at the end is too much. Louis tells Harry, ‘you’re on a whole new level of charm, man’ and can’t stop grinning.

I hope one day we can get back there because it was a fun time to be a fan. So many wacky off the rail interviews, such fun upbeat music, and all the love these guys had for one another.

Asking Louis if Larry Stylinson is real

"I've never actually been asked about it directly," he says in response to Dan asking if he wanted to put the rumors to rest once and for all. "It's a funny thing. People can believe what they want to believe, but I just think it comes across some times as a little bit disrespectful, to the ones that I love, like [my current girlfriend] Eleanor."

So, Dan Wootton from The Sun poses the question to Louis in a recent interview video. And firstly, it’s not true that Louis has never been asked about it directly. I can think of at least two other interviews where he responded and I’m sure there were print articles over the years, also. So, for him to act like it’s the first time the question of Larry Stylinson has been posed to him, is a bit strange.

The way his face looks when he finishes talking about it, saying “But in reality, obviously there’s no truth to it. Obviously,” he makes the most pained smile-ish face that makes me uncomfortable. Using the word ‘obviously’ twice, when responding to a conspiracy that is so widespread, probably half your fanbase thinks is true, is ridiculous, but I suppose one gets defensive when the story’s going on 7 years now.

Watching moments like these, I feel bad for Louis. I think it must be terrible answering this question over the years, if only based on how awkward and uncomfortable it seems to make him.

I believe people in the public eye deserve privacy regarding their personal life and entertainers should be no different. But, I do reflect on the ramifications of hiding your sexuality, as a person part of a famous group whose fanbase is largely young people.

It’s hard to imagine what it would’ve been like, if Harry & Louis had been openly gay years ago, as singers in a world famous boyband. Not 5 or 10 years down the line, but at the height of their fame, ruling the world and influencing young people through their music.

That being said, I don’t fault anyone, including the guys of One Direction, for not coming out, or being private about their relationships, or exploiting their relationships for magazine covers and publicity! (just kidding, that last one is super lame) It’s their choice and of course, in a world with so much homophobia and bigotry, one can see why a famous person might be reluctant.

I suppose it’s just perplexing when it’s two people who used to openly display their affection for one another.

Asking Louis about RBB

At 6:30 in this interview they ask Louis about the Rainbow Bondage Bear. He replies that he never actually saw it in the flesh at the 1D shows.

I kind of love that they bring up RBB because after all, it is a totally random, unexplained 1D thing and it would be nice to have some ACTUAL information on it. But that being said, there’s no way any of One Direction are ever going to give us a real answer.

I’m sure Harry was involved in spearheading RBB, but common Louis, you expect us to believe you knew nothing about it? That’s absurd.

I love Louis, but this interview reminded me that he’s suchhhh a good liar ;)

I need that One Direction tell-all book/movie/tv show/news article

I miss this band. And their drama and all the affection they used to have for each other. The interviews with the 5 of them used to be crazy hilarious and at times, bizarre.

I really don’t understand what happened to these guys’ relationships with each other. It seems like shit went down with Zayn and that’s why he left the group, so it makes sense to me that they would be estranged. But, it also seems like none of the guys talk to each other anymore, which is so odd.

I know the last few years have not been easy for them on a personal level and I’m sure it’s difficult to stay in touch long-distance, as it is with any friends.

Yet, why does it seem like none of the guys like each other anymore? I recall Louis mentioning Niall recently and I believe that they’re still friends, but I don’t know about any of the others.

And I’m so perplexed by Louis & Harry’s non-relationship or whatever the hell that was/is, I don’t know anymore. Louis having Eleanor as his girlfriend again seems even more ridiculous than the first time.

I think it’s great they’re all coming out with their own music, but it really pales in comparison to the great power pop music they rocked as One Direction. These guys are waaaay stronger together. Most of their solo stuff doesn’t stand on its own.

The song Up all night is not one of the gayest 1D songs. With words like Girl and She throughout the song. Unless it could taken from the perspective of a girl singing to another Girl?

No, it’s definitely not one of the gayest 1D songs. Sounds pretty hetero actually. I don’t think I referenced Up All Night (the song) when I made that post about gender neutral songs.

Slowww Hannnds

It’s come to my attention that Niall’s ‘Slow Hands’ is really great.

It’s a catchy, enjoyable summer song and I like listening to it and the million remixes of it. Actually, I might prefer the remixes ‘cause the dance pop vibe is much more my speed than a Jack Johnson-y style guitar ballad. But regardless, it’s a good song and it’s satisfying to hear Niall solo singing. I think he’s really come into his own as a singer the past few years.

One Direction family bonds and grieving loss

I’ve been thinking today about Harry’s stepfather Robin passing away and considering why it is I feel so sad for him. My heart really goes out to Harry and his family and I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose someone so close to you - especially as a person who’s on the road traveling for work so frequently.

As with Louis when he lost his mother, I feel very sorry for Harry and I’m sure it’s because their personal lives and familial relationships were out in the open for so many years, as a part of One Direction.

What really makes the loss hurt is the recognition that Harry, Louis, Liam, Zayn and Niall are very close to their families and have strong bonds with them. Their parents and siblings are people who they trust and rely on, figures in their lives who make their world better.

This seems like a particularly unusual thing for child stars and entertainers who find fame in the industry as a young person. It’s an unfortunate reality but, more often than not, popular young musicians and actors don’t have that positive influence in their life and their families are not known or appreciated by fans.

Knowing how lovely the families of the One Direction boys are is something that humanizes them and hits hard because it shows that there are very good people behind these boys so many look up to and care about.

Solo One Direction is a bore

It’s taking me a long time to get it together and listen to Harry Styles’ solo album. It just seems like such a task. From the songs I’ve heard, the style is a bit bland, the tempo too slow and the production uninteresting. Is this actually what people think Rock music sounds like today? With Harry’s vocals, charisma and charm, these songs should be so much less stale.

Niall’s stuff is the same way. Too acoustic, too quiet, just lacking some greater depth or emotion, some missing piece that be more dynamic. I can tell his lyrics are thoughtful, but it sounds like acoustic alternative rock that could be written by anyone anywhere.

When Zayn’s album came out I was excited. Here is someone who can sing their ass off and show the world what he has to offer. But, Zayn’s R&B jams have no heart, nothing unique to say and there’s little focus throughout the album. He has a beautiful voice, but that’s barely on display and the songs are more about the slick production, often with empty and repetitive lyrics. There’s no context for any of it and the songs aren’t even that fun to listen to.

As for Liam, maybe I’ll give his new song a shot, but the title alone turns me off. It’s nice to see him out there promoting it (Niall and Harry too) and seemingly proud, excited to share the new music. But, whatever dance genre this is seems superficial, like a Justin Timberlake song with no clear melody and an overdone rhythm.

I do enjoy Louis’ dance track from last year and was moved by him releasing the song right after his mother died. It was a good idea for him to work with a seasoned music-maker like Steve Aoki, since this collaboration seems more cohesive and well-produced than any of the other 1D boys’ music. But maybe the difference is just that Louis has something to say.

I don’t know if it’s that these boys are given too much creative freedom or what, but the majority of their solo efforts are terribly boring, uninspired efforts. Are they being rushed to put out this music and therefore, have nothing interesting to contribute? Perhaps it’s that they truly are making the type of music they want and not the power-pop-goodness of One Direction, the style I prefer.

I just wish these songs were less boring.

Hello :) how are you? I was looking for Steph and Martha's Larry blog and came across yours. So sad it's deleted :( That blog kept me sane. I was hearing about this Tess girl Harry was "dating".. hhh.. do you think Larry is still going strong?

Hi there! I feel the same about the blog and also the fact that Harry and Louis have not interacted much in years in a public way. It’s frustrating having enjoyed the crazy nonstop 1D promo back in the day, which felt so organic and less censored than what it is today.

Recently I’ve been viewing publicity, PR, and the media in a different light and recognizing that what we see of a celebrity or public figure’s life is probably 0.2% of what they do on a daily basis. It can be very misleading to judge based on what we see in the media, promotional materials or social media.

That being said, I think many fans believe Harry & Louis are/were a couple because of the endless interviews, promo material and raw footage they saw for years that indicated the two were very close to one another. Much of it appeared to be uncensored and uncoordinated, just two people who are extremely comfortable with one another. Which is hard to fake.

So, I don’t know what to think about Larry Stylinson. But, the way everything’s gone down the last few years makes me inclined to think they’re still together.

Oh and I have no idea who the Tess girl is, I hadn’t heard about that. I’m pretty tired of the random weekly 1D girlfriends, so I’ve stopped checking in with that for awhile now ;)

Never in a million years

would I have expected Liam Payne to have a newborn child with Cheryl Cole in the year 2017.

Watching this video of him talking on Graham Norton is just too bizarre.
