I never post on Tumblr anymore, but thought that this piece was very Tumblr appropriate!
Like a lot of people, when I’m going through a depressive episode I lose my motivation to do the things I enjoy, which for me includes drawing. Recently, my boyfriend joked with me that maybe part of the reason I don’t feel like working on my art when I’m feeling depressed is because it’s generally really happy, positive, and uplifting. He was kidding, but it got me thinking - many creative people use their art as an outlet for them to express their emotional pain. Art is stress relief for me, for sure, but I never conveyed any type of struggle in my drawings, even though it’s something I talk about freely in my life. ||| So, here is my first attempt at expressing my emotional pain - while it might not seem like much to some, I feel attached to this piece in a way I don’t with others. I’ve been on anti-depressants since 2012, & tried tons of combos to try to make life more manageable. While I speak openly about depression, I often keep the medical side to myself - as anyone who takes these kinds of drugs knows, having people tell you that you shouldn’t be on them gets old fast. Meds have been on my mind a lot lately as, to be very open, my current combo hasn’t been working well. I tried adding something new, but the side effects were too much. So, where do you go after that? Do you dump your meds down the drain and try to manage yourself? Do you try another combo, risking “no feelings”? Or do you try another combo that makes you feel better, but kills libido, causes nausea, & makes you gain tons of weight? What’s best? It is endlessly frustrating. ||| This post and caption are in zero way looking for sympathy, encouragement, etc. My experiences with anti-depressants are just another human experience. I’ve shared all of this not only so someone might feel less alone, but so someone else might be inspired to step out of their comfort zone in their own art!! I got so much out of making this, and I’d love that experience for others. Also, don’t forget to check on your friends!🤍🧡💛

#HartfordHasIt! Over the years I’ve seen tons of city skyline pieces all over the internet, but I’d never seen one of MY city - until now! I had so much fun working on this, and am really happy with the finished product, which is my biggest piece to date. Hartford has been good to me, so I’m happy I was finally able to create something to make Hartford a little brighter. ☀️🏙💛

When I first decided that I’d make a Tumblr for my art, I never thought it would become anything meaningful or more than just a Tumblr, so I didn’t put too much thought into a name. Two years later, I’m in a different spot - I have an Etsy shop, I’ve been working on a bunch of custom orders, and my art has grown from doodles on notebooks to actual pieces. It’s time for a new name. After much deliberation, I’ve finally decided on a name that both suits me, and represents the work that I do: Lizzigns! 🧡💕 I’m so happy with the name, and I’m so happy with this logo. It feels so true to me, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds as Lizzigns!
