Lance’s posture has gone from somewhat respectable to bad to worse, and his attention span is slowly but surely reaching its breaking point, when the door in the back of the room slides open. Blue and gray and black. Long, dark hair. A familiar set of eyes. The same faded scar carved along his cheek. Lance jerks upright, nearly jumping out of his chair. “I’m filling in for Kolivan.” The words strike right through Lance’s sternum. And he didn’t even have his defenses up. He didn’t have time to prepare. Although somewhere deep down, he knows that no time in the world could’ve prepared him for seeing Keith again.

or: Being stuck with his ex at a diplomatic conference for a solid month is super cool and very fun. Because Lance is over him. Obviously. He so is.

remus not really being confident in bed but somehow giving sirius the best sex of his life every single time is what i live for—i need remus nervously holding sirius’ hips from behind and then watching him fall against the bed, gripping the sheets as he desperately moans, thighs shaking as remus ever so slowly picks up speed and gains more confidence by the second because holy shit HE is making sirius sound like that, HE is, no one else

Sirius isn’t really sure what he expected for their interview with a possibly murderous ex-cultist, but it definitely wasn’t an outdated Applebee’s in the flat, sprawling city of Greenville or the children’s birthday party happening on the other side of the restaurant.

The car ride here had been awkward and mostly silent, the sort of tentative camaraderie they’d found the last time they talked nowhere to be found, and he’d let Remus make uncomfortable small talk for a little while before he’d started heckling him about his “newer” car, the thing is so old that it doesn’t even have Bluetooth, before he’d amused himself by staring out the window at the passing scenery as twangy music played softly from the radio and occasionally making snippy commentary about it.

“You couldn’t shell out for somewhere a little nicer?” he hisses to Remus as they follow the dead-eyed hostess through the restaurant, dodging a few wayward children as they go. “Was the Waffle House fully booked today?”

“He picked the place, not me,” Remus hisses back, both of them drawing to a stop when the hostess throws the stack of laminated menus down on top of the table of a four person booth, sharing an uneasy look with each other before Sirius takes a quick glance around the restaurant, finding each and every one of the larger tables occupied.

i think moash is such a compelling character because he is so well justified and his actions make perfect sense in response to what we know about him, but he is really the character who is the most perpendicular to the sense of what is good in roshar. the knights radiant are all about this series of oaths, learning difficult lessons that sometimes feel deeply unfair and painful, but always learning.

dalinar himself realizes that he is literally a hypocrite and has committed legit war crimes. but the series is so nuanced in that we are led to see that no one is their worst moments. and that a person who was once the villain can get better, step by step. the most important step is the next step. even a bloodthirsty drunken warmonger can become something better. you don't even have to forgive him, but you can acknowledge that what he is now is not what he was then.

and then you have moash who doesn't want to take any steps towards taking responsibility, who wants to hide from his own pain so much he doesn't mind committing new and worse crimes as long as he can give away the pain. i see so many parallels to addiction, but also just to the very real decision every person has after something terrible happens. sometimes you don't have the strength to make the good choice, but that choice is always there for you. he could always, still, choose to feel the pain, choose to take responsibility, could take the next step. and his failure is not in his crimes but just that he hasn't realized that yet

Sadeas was an evil wife guy.

Let me explain. For the longest time, I never understood why Sadeas reacted so strongly to Wit joking about him sleeping around. He's clearly very securely monogamous. His wife is an excellent court politician with the most extensive spy network and a deft manipulator. They're both geniuses united in ruthless ambition. The only person one trusts completely is the other.

But that's the thing. All the things that make Ialai so beautiful to him aren't readily apparent to the public. He himself admits she's not conventionally attractive. She's not very highly placed and comes from a family that's tacky enough to give her a perfectly symmetrical name. A lot of people probably think he had to marry low because he was considered a backwater warlord when they got together. He's probably heard a million jokes about it.

He probably heard a joke about him sleeping around as Wit calling her ugly and "HOW DARE YOU YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT A WONDERFUL MASTERMIND SHE IS DO YOU KNOW HOW LUCKY I AM????!!!"
