I 've recently seen so many here's how to start writing posts that are simply "Just write." That I've decided to call out the terrible advice for what it is, terrible.
So here's some practical things you can do to prepare your environment to facilitate getting words on the page:
1. Clean your writing space
Vacum the carpet, dust the windowsill, empty the keyboard of your hair and crumbs. A clean writing space is a happy writing space.
2. Stay hydrated
Keep a large jug/1-2 litre bottle on your desk with delicious, life sustaining water. A hydrated writer is a happy writer.
3. Open the curtains
The sun might be a deadly laser, but it is also a freind. It will not harsh the vibes, unlike artificial lights, which are not freind.
4. Set a writing time
Pick a time during the day when you are least likely to be disturbed. This is your dedicated writing time. Even if you write a tiny amount of trash or do nothing but think about what you want to write. Stick to this schedule! A disciplined writer is a productive writer.
5. Keep your writing tools in good order
Store pens in their proper place and bin empty pens. Keep your software of choice updated, and save your documents in a project folder. Ensure your notepad is clean and in its proper place. The few barriers a project has the sooner work can begin.
6. Have an idea
This is the last and most important step. It's no good deciding you want to write without any ideas. Stories do not spawn from the void. Once you have an idea, write it down so you don't forget. That will be your official first sentence of your new project. It can be as simple and silly as: "My neighbour has too many baby strollers in his back yard."
A final thought, a happy hydrated writer in a happy place with a friend, can write stories. A dead writer with no friends tells none.

prompt; "Just for a minute."
length: 247 words.

The silence was thick; a heavy weight even the Earth couldn't shake. Only when there's a shuffle followed by a breath of reluctance does it break. The first crack.
"Come on," Finnley whispers. "You're not going to stay? Not going to listen to me?"
Fraeya pauses.
Then resumes the poor packing of her belongings, as if the voice had been nothing but a murmur within the the room. Even as their mutual presence squeezed the air into suffocating lengths for one another.
"For Christ's sake — Just stop! Stop it, that's all I ask." Finnley's accent comes thicker as his desperation mounts. "Just for a minute, will you bloody talk to me?"
A shake of her head. As if this entire thing were absurd, despite their own forms ignorance. Perhaps it is. Arguing like children at this age was nobody's fault but their own.
"You speak as if time is limitless. Asking me for just a moment, just a scrap of hope for yourself, and then what? You'll plead me to stay forever?" Fraeya shoves the dusty case closed with enough force that the clasps slam shut automatically.
"No," Finnley attempts to defend, "I just want you to understand! I want to understand and you're just — walking out like I don't deserve!"
"You've a lot that that you don't understand." She hauls it into her grasp and makes a swift turn towards the door. "So, forgive me for not wanting to waste this mortal life on you, Finn."

prompt; "It'll grow back."
length: 167 words.

The stench of burnt love floated through the air. Too thick to disperse and suffocating enough to choke its victims amidst the already tense fight for self-regulation.
For years had Clementine been growing this sanctuary. Years that are countless, a mark she sees upon the calender tied to her fridge and smiles at with sparks of new ideas. Years of her life that have been naught but dedication and recovery.
Clementine had raised this garden and it, in turn, had healed her soul.
"It'll grow back." Eugene sneers, shrugging as his Great Dane sniffs around the ruins.
The words elicit a spike of anger. How outrageous of this culprit to act like he knew anything but selfish carelessness. To behave as though this was as trivial as a flower being trampled in a field of grass and not at least one hundred different species all burnt to the very roots —
"They won't grow back." Clementine finds herself snipping the words. "The dead don't come back to life."
