Liquid Courage
The girl’s love is like liquor
Bitter on your tongue
Burning as it slides down your throat
But once you consume her?
Suddenly you’re both braver and stupider than you ever thought possible.

I taught you that love tastes like neat rum from the bottle and the smoke that slowly kills you. I taught you that mess was beautiful and you clung to the flames until they burnt you to the bone. Later you will understand that this is the time I was too broken for you to fix, you met me when I only knew to fear the love you wanted to give. You will understand that what I taught you was never love.

Please stop and read this.
I’m doing a project on gay rights in today’s society.
So if you believe that same sex couples should be allowed to get married, please reblog this.
This would be a lot of help, thank you.

5 Tropes I Hate Reading in Fiction
5 Tropes I Hate Reading in Fiction
To begin, a disclaimer: these are my own personal opinions. There are readers who adore these tropes and will consume them with pleasure (otherwise, I doubt they’d be so prevalent!). There are examples of books that adopted these tropes so well, even I can’t hate. No matter what you enjoy reading or writing, keep enjoying it!As the saying goes, you can’t please everyone. I’ve had readers beg me…

5 Tips for Writing Compelling Villains
5 Tips for Writing Compelling Villains
We all have our pet-peeves in literature and movies. Maybe you’re an avid romance reader who can’t stand the billionaire bad boy/plain Jane trope. Some people hate books that end with a cliffhanger. Some readers return a book if features infidelity or glorifies substance abuse.
  My personal pet peeve, though?
Flat, boring villains. Villains who seem to exist only to torture the…

Amy Dunne - A Fictional Portrait of a Psychopath
Amy Dunne – A Fictional Portrait of a Psychopath
The character of Amy Dunne makes for a fascinating case study in what it is like to be married to, or even in contact with, a psychopath. Amy fell in love with her husband Nick, changing parts of her own personality to try to create the illusion of the “perfect girlfriend” or “perfect wife.” When she tired of the charade, her behavior towards her husband became cold and distant. After…

Complex Post-Traumatic Stress
This is a great post on C-PTSD, and PTSD in general. Many people believe PTSD is a disorder exclusive to combat veterans and police officers. This post does an excellent job of breaking down C-PTSD and the potential long-term impact of childhood trauma.

I think I’ve figured out why we don’t seem to like our own writing sometimes…
You know how we don’t like how our voice sounds on recordings? It feels like something is wrong with it, but that’s only because we’re so used to listening it from within our own body and mind so when it’s presented in front of us, not as a part of us, it feels strange.
And that’s just what happens with our writing. We’re so used to just thinking about the story and seeing it in our head that when we see it written in ink on paper or a document on the computer, something feels strange, it’s not just inside us anymore, it’s actually physically there.
So if you ever feel bad about your writing, just remember that you’re not actually a bad writer, you’re just still not used to seeing your work with your own two eyes once it’s left your imagination and entered the world of book format. So keep writing and do your best! It’s alright!

WIP Playlist: Using Music to Set the Mood
WIP Playlist: Using Music to Set the Mood
I’m going to let you all in on a little secret: I hate silence. Maybe it’s because I’m a mother, so the quiet hours feel unsettling and strange. Or perhaps it’s because I’m friends with a bunch of Californians who can talk for hours about seemingly nothing. Maybe it’s because I write such dark material and silence leaves me a little too alone with my thoughts. Whatever the reason, I cannot stand…

Resources For Writing Period Pieces: 1900-1939
Tumblr media
– The format of this piece in my Resources For Writing Period Pieces series is different due to it covering only a portion of a century, which has much more documentation and recorded historical details. I’ve done this in a way that covered each decade almost separately, but put all four under the umbrella of “early 20th century”. I hope this is helpful to all of you historical fiction writers out there. The other two articles covering this century will be formatted the same way. Happy researching!
