Merlin Fanfiction preview

I'm in the middle of writing this but I thought I would post a little preview. The idea is that Merlin and Arthur get cursed to feel pain when they touch. The opposite of the forced proximity trope. It will be on AO3 whenever I'm done.

“Arthur, wait up,” Merlin called out. They rounded a corner and started up some stairs, practically taking two at a time. Merlin didn’t know exactly what was running through Arthurs mind, but he had a pretty good idea. 

“Hey, Arth-” Merlin started to say. He was interrupted by a rush of pain through his hand  that landed on Arthurs shoulder. It was the same as before as it ripped through his entire body. It stole his breath away and he wrapped his free arm around his middle. A failed attempt at comforting himself. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Arthur bracing himself on the wall of the stairwell. Arthur had to bite his tongue and clench his fists at the intensity of the pain. Black began to cover their vision and they fell to the steps.

“Are you- are you okay?” Merlin hesitantly asked as the pain started to fade. Arthur nodded, not trusting his voice just yet. A layer of sweat covered their foreheads and they laid there for a while, catching their breath. Neither dared to move, almost afraid that it would happen again. Maybe if they were lucky, someone would find them and send Gaius to them instead.

“We need to get to Gaius before it gets worse,” Merlin said and slowly stood. He reached his hand out to Arthur to help him stand. Arthur nodded in agreement and took his hand, only for the pain to return. Merlin fell back to the floor with a groan, right next to Arthur. He leaned his head on Arthurs shoulder and curled into himself, trying to ease the ache. Arthur welcomed the touch and leaned into it as well. Even though it felt like fire was coursing through their veins, at least they were together. With that thought, they passed out on the steps up to Gaius’s chambers.

I don’t know how I would feel about a season 6 of merlin.

Do I want to see Arthur adjusting to the 21st century, and Merlin trying not to go insane?

Do I think it’s worth the chance of finishing a beautiful series that already has a tragic yet meaningful ending, with something that doesn’t have the same sentiment?
