i appreciate the answer to my previous ask, thanks! another user asked about how you think deidara would be like when it comes to love (sadly beaten to the punch) so i have to ask about what you think in regards to the other half of the art duo. do you think it's even possible considering? what would make him even consider another person being worth the risk?

also, in your head, how often do you think the art duo spend talking about art? what other topics do you think they've discussed before? do you think in a situation outside of the akatsuki they would hang out?

Hello ! Once again, I cannot speak of Sasori without speaking of Deidara, so I take this as an opportunity to go more in depth in regards to Deidara too

Starting with catching feelings:

For Deidara, I think he might go a while not realizing how he feels, because of how foreign those feelings are, especially in the world of shinobi. And to think that anything could ever come close to what he feels towards his art is simply inconceivable, because it was always him and his art. The way it would happen would be like a lightning strike, or even an explosion ( no pun intended ) and he would probably have a tendency to idealize the person he crushed on to an extreme.

When it comes to Sasori, I don't think there would be any such strong feelings at all. A person might catch his interest, for a reason or another ( it has to be some reason that directly relates to him. Immortality? Art? Something like that. ) once he catches interest, he'd probably spend a long time observing said person, perhaps from afar. ( uhh, stalking ? ) and he'd probably know that person more than this person knows themselves. But like I mentioned earlier, all of this involves risk. So he'd keep himself at a distance.

That being said, I believe both of them have issues of avoidance for different reasons.

I believe Deidara has an inner fear of vulnerability, so his way of avoiding to be vulnerable is by idolizing his partner, and putting them on a pedestal, admiring and throwing attention freely, like a work of art, subconsciously creating distance between them and his heart, which is fragile and easily breaks, like his clay statues.

Sasori's avoidance is clearly due to his experience, and consequent inability to form such attachments, not only by fear of it repeating but also because romantic feelings are foreign to him as well. Much like Deidara, he would shield his heart, although it is exposed ( no pun intended 2.0 ), by keeping that person at a distance. How to achieve that ? Persistent testing, snide remarks, harsh comments, all meant to test the other person's feelings for him ( because of course, feelings not being returned is not an option..)

A little parentheses here: evidently, neither of them have a healthy way of feeling or expressing, to an extent, although sasori is arguably much worse in that regard.

Now, returning to the way of loving, at first Deidara would put his partner on a pedestal and love bomb ( no pun intended 3.0 ) maybe even to a suffocating extent. He would probably not even see an issue with his behavior unless pointed out. And with the same tendency of wanting to blow up his sculptures, he'd want to cause the same thing in his partner regarding feelings. Anger, love, it doesn't matter, so long as it explodes. The more such explosions happen, the more consequent love he'll feel. If things are too stagnant, he'll lose interest pretty quickly.

Sasori on the other hand cannot get rid of his desire to possess whatever catches his eye. It is the only way for him to appreciate something fully. How this translates is evident. He wouldn't see a person as an object, per se, but he would be possessive and territorial over them. Sasori is probably a red flag in himself . . That much is clear. If he gets to love someone like that, I don't think he'd have very healthy ways of dealing with things, the same way he turned to mass murder following the trauma he's gone through. As a puppet master, he is used to controlling and orchestrating things the way be envisions them, and this would carry on in a relationship. He would want to possess, control, and manipulate everything about it. But much like Deidara, if he is able to achieve that fast enough, he'd lose interest quickly. Unless someone can see past his manipulation and constant venomous stings, I don't think he would be a great partner on the long run for someone's sanity . . . Someone would probably need to be insane enough not to fall into all the subsequent pain this would cause. In that way, Sasori's feelings would probably grow over a long period of time, and that is only if he judges it worthwhile. After all, there is a great risk in this game of love: losing.

That being said, Deidara cannot take losing for an option either, though I imagine his behaviors to be much more dependent, dramatic, and erratic. Evidently, he too would be territorial and jealous, but not in the same silent, creepy way as Sasori's, who would by the way, give silent treatments and cold shoulders as a result of jealousy. ( Don't count on him to communicate directly. ) Deidara on the other hand would be pretty vocal about things, in a very dramatic display. The same way he puts his partner on a pedestal, he would want to be put on a pedestal too, and be their number one priority.

I'll stop here regarding love as to not make this endless LOL and get on to the rest ( feel free to ask more specific questions later ! )

So for the last part,

Perhaps under different circumstances, they would indeed hang out outside of the akatsuki. I think that despite how much they bicker over art, I don't believe Deidara to be fully incapable of depth. He has shown himself to be very superficial, but I don't think that means he would be limited to art topics, although that would be his main interest. If anything, he'd probably listen to Sasori talking a lot, regardless of the topic, because he admires him and thinks highly of him. The same can't be said about Sasori . . I think he'd probably listen until his patience runs out (pretty fast lol) and be unable to resist the urge to correct Deidara's childish perspectives on things. He would however try not to shut him down completely. He himself, is the result of that. Deidara has a fire in him that he doesn't wish to extinguish just like that.

I'd think that they talk about art a lot and the initial topics often shift to other things ( mainly because of Deidara and jumping from one thing to another very fast ) which might be philosophical in nature most of the time !

i really like your headcanons about deidara, he's an absolutely fascinating character and i feel you understand the depth of his character in both your art and writing. question though: what are your headcanons for sasori?

Sasori is not so far behind ! In fact in terms of favorites, he's right after deidara.

For sasori, aside from what is explicitly mentioned / shown in the anime and manga, a lot of things can be deduced. At least, on my end, the way I see sasori is that he is akin to a paradox. Neither dead nor alive, neither fully feeling nor fully unfeeling⎯⎯he toes the line between opposites, and in such a way, it is hard, if not impossible to fully get into his mind. What he says might be misleading, and his entire being is shrouded in mystery. Since deidara was mentioned, they have always existed simultaneously in my mind, as if they are two sides of the same coin. Both of them find their sense of identity through their art, and each in a different manner. In fact, removing "artist" from their Identity would fundamentally change who they are, and sasori's character can be more deeply understood by contrasting it with deidara.

In a sense, I believe a reason why sasori disagrees so strongly with deidara is because his own art is a way to deal with his lack of control. If there is one thing he cannot control, it is time, and consequently, death. Giving eternal life and stillness through his puppets is a way to ensure that they cannot be lost, and that he will not have to face the pain of death. Which of course, is all subconscious. His way of dealing with uncertainty ( which I think he really dislikes ) is by removing any countdown on life and making it null.

He is evidently very smart, but I believe it goes even beyond what has been shown ( well, he was killed off pretty early . . Not much was shown unfortunately )

I think he can read people like open books, always knows a lot more than he lets on, and pieces things together faster than one can even comprehend.

On the other hand, since he is always in a state of in-between, perhaps, his heart is not fully devoid of feeling, even if he claims that he does not feel anymore. Of course, a major part of it is true, as the amount of sadness and bitterness he has felt has grown, and loomed over him so much it has turned to numbness, but a part of me thinks that under the right circumstances, he may show a softer side. Though it would be extremely rare.

That being said, I think that he'd be the kind to test people a lot, and maybe even persistently. That is, if they have the chance to get close to him. Get too close, and you'll get stung for sure.

Speaking of which, even a person such as he, has a fear. The fear of going through loss again. And for that, he would avoid attachment. Surely, that fear is subconscious. But it translates into extreme avoidance, and aloofness. Because if he risks closeness, he risks opening his heart to the same kind of pain. Which again, is very unlikely to happen in the first place.

I also think that he has his own sense of humor ! Not necessarily hilarious to others, but funny enough to get a small smile out of him. That obviously includes tricking others and trolling them.

I also have this very specific headcanon of him having eyes and ears everywhere but . . In both a comical and very creepy way ? Where he'd basically be standing in the shadows, wide-eyed . . or even hanging from the ceiling like a spider. . spying.

You're so right about his eyes, too. They're just....empty, but there's also insanity in there. He's nuts.

I don't know what it is, but there's something about how you do his eyes that just conveys that PERFECTLY. In every piece of him you do, his eyes are so striking like that.

Wow, that goes straight to my heart ! I must say, since I've first come across deidara as a kid, I was always fascinated about his design. Something about his eyes was mesmerizing to me, how empty and yet full of insanity they are. I couldn't pinpoint it as a kid, but as I grew up it became very evident ! The mismatch between the seemingly innocent and youthful look, and yet, the depth of the danger present in his eyes.

I am so glad that I can convey this through my art ! It's really the one thing that fascinates me most about him !!

After all, the eyes are the doors to the soul. No matter what else is around, looking into someone's eyes reveals way more than anything else. I really try to convey this through my art !

hey !! Honestly, I think it would really depend what catches his eye in another person. The way I see it is that he would most likely be infatuated with said person, and the infatuation grows into obsession, which may or may not mellow down into love eventually ( without however removing the obsessive aspect ! ) I think deidara is a very independent person, and all he cares about is his art. So falling in love with another person would mean equating their importance to his art, or even surpass it. It would also be like a person who has never felt sunlight before—he wouldn't want to lose it, and might even grow dependent on the presence or absence of that person, affecting his overall well-being.
