People are going to start villainizing a woman because she interferes with their gay ship again and the fandom this time is ā€œThe Summer Hikaru Died.ā€
I like all the main characters and I especially like the relationship Hikaru and Yoshiki have with Kurebayashi. I love a good allegory as much as the next nerd, but an allegory isn’t the text or page. Yes, I see and agree with the interpretation that Rei represents the kind person who genuinely supports lgbt people but is way too quiet about it. She’s someone who prefers to conform for safety.
BUT
in text, Hikaru is a dangerous entity. It’s like having a tiger as a pet. Yes, he loves Yoshiki and he’s doing his best to not cause undue harm, but much like a wild animal, he still causes a lot of damage unintentionally. And intentionally, Hikaru killed that lady a while back. Hikaru is from a separate world that tends to have negative affects on the ā€œhumanā€ world bc they aren’t, currently, capable of proper communication. We have no clue of the effects of mixing their souls and it could harm Yoshiki. I know Hikaru doesn’t want that.
Rie wanting Yoshiki to have the chance at living is understandable. Wanting him to be able to enjoy a ā€œnormalā€ life because he’s a 16 yo boy who has barely lived is understandable. This shit is scary 😭
Yes, allegory but I hope people don’t hate her because of what she metaphorically represents. They aren’t living a queer narrative (well Yoshiki, Hikaru and the girls are), they’re living a lovecraft novel.
Edit: when I say interfere with gay ship, it’s because a decent chunk of the hate I’ve seen is painting Rie as homophobic in text or mad that she’s daring to separate them.

Superman (2025) Ramble Review
(Spoilers, obvi)
This is my first live action DC movie, and it was great! I won't get into the whole film because I just watched it, and I made a point to remember a few key points.
The kryptonite
Listen, I will never support using text in lieu of visual imagery. The opening was cute but reading all of that exposition is a bit much.
Marvel humor. It's not horrible but a continuation of a long trend. The moments were funny for the most part.
Justice Gang
I have known about Mr terrific for 2 hours and if anything happens to him I'm killing—
Hawk woman!!!!!!!!! That's it, I love her.
I am genuinely surprised that Bruce and Diana didnt show up. Not bc I'm a trinity stan but just the sheer destruction of everything. Superman needs help ya'll
Guy...ugly ass bowl cut. Not Hal or John. Still funny.
The Superman
Is it insane to think the conflict parallels Palestine and its fight against the apartheid hell of Israel
Bc it's superman and his older iterations interfered with political conflicts, I will let the white savior aspect slide. I don't think it was intentional but dang...
Jimmy Olson scored a woman out of his league, nearly got her killed and still refuses to give her a date. I will find him and beat him up.
Lois in Docs
I loved that the Kents are Hella Midwestern. Really touching moments and I'm pretty sure they're Republicans but not trump supporters 😭
A win is a win
Krypto. Fucking menance and a terrier? Loved him.
My friend and I both gasped at Kara
Hell, we gasped at a lot of it. Gunn did a good job. I didn't expect so many parts of this movie.
Lex luthor is such a petty bitch
The lady in the blonde wig is hot 😳
Loved that Hawkwoman dropped that nasty man
Gunn kept the whimsical air of comics, and it's refreshing having that back.
The Bowl Cut
I loved that Lois interrogated Clark about his interference. Political conflicts are rarely simple and there's no guarantee it will go well twice.
We need more brown contacts. Jesus
They're millennials, oh my god. They'd claim I'm trying to cancel eyeliner or some other bullshit millennials make up about gen z
Score: 8/10
It's an enjoyable movie with good writing, pacing, and some sick camera shots. The characters are great, and the humor fits this era well. It was genuinely a lot of fun to watch.

Slade: You kids are making it too complicated. Back in my day, we didn't even talk about that sort of thing. Dick, half asleep: Yeah, because 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' was soooo much better. Slade: All I'm saying is, a warm body is a warm body, and a nice ass is a nice ass. But kids these days have to go and call it something ridiculous. Dick: Well, based on what you said, 'kids these days' would probably call you pansexual. Slade: Pan--what? Dick: It means you're equally attracted to all genders. Slade, laying naked in bed with him after they just spent two hours having sex: What kind of faggot shit is that?

The "No Kill" Rule
I'm very much in the camp that finds the no killing rule stupid, specifically how it's often portrayed in DC Comics with Batman. Understand, I don't believe Bruce should kill. I find it an interesting facet of his character and his neurotic tendencies.
No, it brings up philosophical discussion. A lot of DC fans act like a hero killing is the end of days. There is not always a peaceful solution, and the belief that everyone can be redeemed is naive at best. Of course, the crux of the issue is the nature of comics.
Deontology vs Utilitarianism. I've seen that thrown around and I like it. Keeping to your principles or sacrificing yourself for the greater good?
Something I've always done, even as a child, was put my ocs in other worlds. How would x react to y? Who would they get along with, who would they hate?
In one particular story, those ocs would dislike Bruce at best and abhor him at worst. I've been imaging the discussions and the arguments they would have. One of those ocs is a huge philosophy nerd, it's how he's coped with the life he's lived and the choices he's made. To him, while both seek to improve lives what they're willing to sacrifice is different.
My ocs will sacrifice their souls, will force themselves to do horrible things if it ensures the safety of others. They will make that hard choice so no one else has to. Most of them work to create a reality where people like them no longer need to exist. They are not good people and they will never claim to be.
To them, Bruce and many of the other heroes, do not put the well-being of innocent lives above their principals. (Keep in mind: I mean the universes where Bruce does stuff like save the joker not hoping that Poison Ivy can get some mental help. Not that level of over (hehe) kill). They would not expect heroes to go around killing bad guys, but would find it evil that they prevent others from doing so. Mostly Bruce. Sorry, Bruce fans. Seriously, some of these writers need to be shamed.
They do not strive to be beacons of hope which allows them more wiggle room in their actions.
I don't think heroes should just kill every one. That's ridiculous. It does make me wonder how they would handle scenarios where killing is unavoidable. Wars, revolutions, etc. How would Bruce handle things like the UHS shooting?
ok, now for dumb fun. My ocs' opinions on Bruce:
Karin: Likes him, but believes he is a bad mentor/adult figure to his sidekicks.
Garland: Neutral-positive. He finds the no-kill rational ineffective. This view becomes hate bc of how he treats Dick.
Leo: Neutral. He doesn't care about Bruce at all. If there was a need, he would swipe the bat symbol and give no shits. It isn't copyrighted
Kaelin-Dislike. Bruce reminds him of his parent. Said parent hates him and has actively tried to kill him multiple times.
Ken-Hates the whole batfamily, Jason and Alfred included. Literally, if it wasn't for the law of this land (his friends) he'd kill them out of annoyance.
Sora-Neutral-positive. She finds it hypocritical that the no kill rule doesn't seem to extend past humans. She will respect the symbol and avoid killing in gotham.
Allison-lmaoooooooo. The only reason she hasn't killed Bruce Wayne is because Jason hasn't asked her to. Not to be oc x canon, she's a lesbian, but they're good friends and when he died, she was pissed.
Yusuf, Marik, Emily: legit don't care. They just want to go to bat burger.

It's amazing how Snow's own pettiness leads to the end of the Capitol. He exclusively uses sticks instead of carrots. Sure, the victors won, but they're more under his thumb than the average resident. Out of the pan into the fire.
Snow of all people should know what desperation does. He should remember how he felt when he thought he had nothing left.
Like the raven, Plutarch, said with everything gone, you have nothing to lose.
Empires decline, and one consistent, major sign is the downtrodden. When people have nothing to lose and nothing to live for, they do not fear dying.
Yeah, he can snatch the tributes' kids, like Ampert, and throw them into the games, but then what? You can't bargain with a corpse.
Haymitch lost everything. Snow refuses to offer katniss a carrot after the victory tour...
Mind you, I'm going off of the 2 most recent books and my memory from ten years ago. And this is just a thought I had while I'm rereading catching fire.
Fear isn't a sustainable control tactic.

I don’t think Phos manipulated anyone
(Here me out) whole manga spoilers
I am (probably) autistic and the way I think is often different than the average person. There are many social norms I miss, and attempts at manipulation fail to work on me because I am easily confused. Mind you, I mean manipulation like a lazy customer wanting me to do work that isn’t my job. I just reread Phos trying to get the gems to go to the moon and I still don’t see manipulation. The characters call it manipulation, Phos even calls it manipulation, but I don’t think it was.
I am contrarian and I will argue for perspectives I disagree with, but I genuinely don’t know why Phos’ behavior is seen as manipulative.
Phos doesn’t lie beside claiming total amnesia when they first return and the dusting of their comrades. That is as much manipulation as I can give to the story. They tell Rutile about the artificial gems on the moon that could help papda. Dia just outright says she wants to go and Benito is genuinely curious. Phos tells Cinnabar the full truth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Euc claims that the manipulation is Phos taking no stance for or against the moon but letting others draw their own conclusions. That..is…it’s more fair than Phos should be. She could’ve lied and made the moon seem amazing, but they didn’t.
Tumblr media
I’m not saying Phos is a paragon of good or something- I disagreed with her negative view of sensei and I absolutely understand why the gems shattered her on their second to last return from the moon—but she was honest. He could’ve told everyone the same info at once but he also didn’t have to? Bort’s already pig-headed, Euc errs too much on the side of caution…it’s understandable to try and win over a few people first.
Phos asks adamant if he is a tool for the humans and he confirms it. To phos, sensei is just a broken machine that endangers their lives. The gems’ enemy wants to die. Phos doesn’t trust the lunarians but seeks to use them to save her people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sure, phos could’ve mentioned going back to the moon, but I can see their concern over being stopped. I wish Euc had talked to Phos at some point, so much could’ve been different if they had spoken..but I digress.
This isn’t me going on the Phos defense, I love my baby and all their fuck ups, I just truly don’t see the manipulation here. Kind of shady? Sure? The worst thing was lying about what happened to their comrades. While they are suspicious of the lunarians, Phos is still too willing to confirm their biases, hence why assmunch can manipulate her.
Finally, Phos was right to take Padparadscha. Rutile, wtf???

I read all 108 chapters of Houseki no Kuni Saturday and have spent the last two days processing by reading and watching others’ thoughts and analyses. Many people seem to consider Phos promising to help Cinnabar as coming from a selfish place intentionally. Maybe I misunderstood because I binge read the entire series but I saw Phos’ motivation as selfless.
Phos is not valued by their fellow gems—though the true extent of that isn’t revealed until much later—and yet Cinnabar saves her. To me, Phos was so grateful for this kindness that they wanted to repay Cinnabar. I’m not saying some selfishness wasn’t wrapped up in their future actions but the initial desire to help, that promise was from true selflessness.

It’s been over six years and I still dislike the Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond twist.
For brevity I will be abbreviating Rose Quartz as ā€œRQā€ and Pink as ā€œPD.ā€ Vague Bojack horseman spoilers at the end.
I’m not posting this to start a discussion, I just want to get it out because I’ve cycled into another Steven Universe nostalgia phase and my annoyance for the decision came back. SU is hard for me because I still love it, flaws and all. The PD twist wasn’t surprising to me, the fandom had been speculating for years at that point. No, I had suspicions but I had hoped the show wouldn’t go in that direction.
I don’t dislike the twist because it was poorly foreshadowed, it was set up well, though I have a critique of that, I dislike for subjective reasons. I think SU really wanted us to hate RQ/PD. Many shows do use their narratives to do so, but SU felt…annoying about it. I don’t hate PD. I never did.
Let me start with RQ. The show spends most of its time deconstructing the rose colored view of RQ. The reverse character arc was done beautifully and I loved it. RQ wasn’t this perfect leader and revolutionary. She fucked up and made terrible, reckless decisions. She dumped a great burden on her son and team. Steven and the crystal gems reconciling with that is great. No notes. Then, season 5.
The original show has 5 seasons and we get the PD twist in season 5. After spending most of the show deconstructing RQ and having us and the cast recontextualize her actions the writers throw in another loop that causes an even bigger recontextualization. RQ goes from being the complex, flawed leader to a childish tyrant. PD has a human zoo she never tries to fix, she faked her death which led to the deaths and forced fusions of hundreds of gems, and pearl…my god, this twists hurts Pearl.
If the PD twist happened earlier in the show, I think I would’ve liked it more. The show spent too much time on RQ so when we get PD it feels like another arc tacked on after we get through RQ.
Pearl is my favorite character out of a cast I love. She goes from a pearl, designed to love and obey her master that rebels against that role and becomes her own person to a typical pearl. RQ wasn’t a person she chose to love and follow. RQ was her diamond. She followed her like the other pearls follow theirs. Pearl goes through so much development in the show and then this twist happens. First, I refuse to believe that Pearl never needed to censor herself from revealing RQ true identity up until then. It would’ve been nice to see the hand over mouth thing in prior seasons.
I liked the story of a gem rebelling against a cruel, rigid society and her pearl who chose to become an autonomous being that gave her love and loyalty. No, RQ is just the basic reveal of being the person she killed, Pearl is loyal like she’s designed to be, and the show makes RQ look even worse. We get it, RQ sucks.
Finally Spinel. Spinel, and to an extent SU Future, is why I think the show really wants us to hate RQ/PD. I liked the movie, i loved the songs, I love Spinel, it was completely unnecessary. We move on with homeworld barely explored and the diamonds with the shortest arc imaginable to another reason why we should hate RQ. PD had another gem she abandoned like her og pink pearl. Pink pearl was already enough to drive the point home, much less the human zoo. No, we have spinel, a gem never mentioned by anyone ever—looking at you pearl—who suddenly appears out of nowhere. Why? What other purpose was there to her character than to reiterate that RQ was a selfish person with a tendency to use and toss away those around her? Did that require a whole movie?
I hoped the show would do something unique instead of this basic narrative. The twist was so obvious that I had hoped for something different. There are so many things that I love about SU, but this never sat well with me. I wish the show explored home world, I wish the diamonds were interrogated about being space n*zis and had longer arcs to justify their new behavior, I wish Connie and Lars had more time to shine.
Bojack Horseman spends its six seasons hammering it home that Bojack is a terrible person, but it does that from the start. It’s a consistent thing, like revealing RQ’s flaws, the biggest twist of him wanting 17 mins to call for help isn’t that shocking. He does stuff as terrible practically every season.
Ah SU, my flawed masterpiece.

Sigh…I guess Frieren demon discourse is a thing, why am I surprised? Anyhoo, no the demons are not a fascist representation of minorities. I get it, fantasy has a nasty tendency to make a certain race inherently evil yadda yadda we know. I understand where both sides are coming from. Yes, it’s possible for racist assholes to see the demons and act like the story is suggesting minorities are alien and impossible to get along with.
Demons aren’t human. It’s not an allegory for different human races, it’s an allegory between different species. Demons aren’t evil. They are, understandably, judged by human standards by humans. Human morals only apply to humans though. Demons eat humans. They adapt to eat their prey like any other predator. The same way humans and dogs can never truly understand each other, humans and demons cannot coexist.
Sometimes, the blue curtains have hidden meaning. Sometimes, the blue curtains are just blue.
Hell , if we’re stretching allegories here, maybe demons are a stand-in for hate groups. You can try, but reasoning with white supremacists is a nigh pointless endeavor.

Pontificating about Evangelion again
One of my favorite moments in the show was Yui biting off Gendo’s head. Worst father of the century, asshole supreme, who dedicated his life to reuniting with his love being killed by her brings me a visceral type of sharp happiness. Yui watched this man neglect their son, abuse him, hurt him, and discard him. She watched as he made clones of her, clones he also abused.
And the sweetest justice imaginable, this disgusting, pathetic excuse for a human, being barred from his ultimate goal, knowing, as he dies, that he will never be with Yui again and it is by her design.
Fuck Gendo Ikari

My favorite part of the first half of RGU is when Anthy explicitly states that as the rose bride she is loyal to the reigning duelist and Utena, while painfully aware of this fact and wearing horrible clothes, has a whole arc where she gets her spark back and reclaims her title and Anthy. It’s like: Does Utena not care and would rather have Anthy even if her ā€œaffectionsā€ are false or did she actually believe that she was the exception, at that point?
It’s funny to me. Hun, you are no better than the other ā€œprinces.ā€

I find Sansa Stark Interesting
(Spoilers for game of thrones book 1)
I just find Sansa interesting. I do dislike her, mostly because if I had Sansa as a sister, I would definitely have slapped her by now. I don't know why people think I should be stanning when she calls her own younger sister "ugly", treats her like she is a burden, calls Jon "bastard", and lies for her crush against her sister. Joffrey attempted to murder a stable boy and Arya defended him. She was clearly in the right.
Sansa thinks it's a great idea to lie about that. I don't care that she is a kid. She is the elder of the sisters and it's inappropriate, even as a teenager, to lie about something like that. Even worse, months later she continues to propagate the lie.
None of these things make her bad character. They make her a very real character. I don't understand tagging something as "anti" character just because you dislike them, because disliking a character can be a sign that they are wonderfully crafted. I kinda wanna slap her, but she's 13. It's not that deep. I do think lady dying was unfair to lady, but a just punishment for Sansa. She has consistently gone against her own family over a crush. I was 13 once, get the urge but not to this degree.
I don't know where she got this from, no one else would do the stuff she does. Maybe she bought into the Kool-Aid so to speak of being noble? Catelyn and Ned are older and have the wisdom of age. They have seen war and felt grief. They understand some of the realities of what is happening.
Right now, I feel so horrible for her. The tragedy of Ned's execution is not so much the execution, because that man was a walking death flag. He has more death flags than Aki from Chainsaw Man. No, the pain comes from Sansa because she was the only one, besides Cersei but who cares about her, who thought Ned wouldn't die.
Sansa is bratty and she is somewhat cruel to her sister. I am an only child, but l feel like calling your own sister, ugly, and then saying that you wish it had been hurt that was killed instead of your dog is bad and is cruel. I think that's fair.
Now, Sansa is in a precarious situation that I truly would not wish on anyone and l am praying that she gets to kill Joffrey. She deserves it. I wish her the best of luck because she is in the most dangerous situation currently.
Just because I dislike her, and I do have every right to it does not mean I am anti-her existence, she is a great character and I'm curious to see how she progresses as the story continues. I will fight a child. I mean Joffrey is right there. I'd fight him. Yeah, I don't like Sansa but the worst thing that should've happened to her is getting slapped by her sister or maybe Ned, though he wouldn't do that, and he sure can't now.
I don't want to fight about Sansa. I want to discuss her.
