rewatching Hxh is such an experience. when i first started i remember just consuming it like i would any other media (i dont remember how old i was then, but i know it was pretty young). now that im such a different person vs who i was then its so weird rewatching it and looking back at things i thought were funny, attractive, or normal in the show is so... eugh. 

i havent seen anyone talk about this so im sorry if im just repeating old information. 

what is up with Gon??

i know, i know, probably the last person you thought i could have a problem with. and i dont! not really, at least. what im wanting to talk about is all the jokes surrounding him.

okay, so, were all aware of Hisoka. the creepy sadistic clown who has a thing for little kids. im not entirely sure how i should be phrasing this so im just gonna try and get everything out of my brain. sorry if it feels like im repeating myself, im trying not to. 

(disclaimer!! im not trying to cancel hxh or anything i just never see anything relating to gons experiences when it comes to this)

so while rewatching i kept on noticing just how many jokes there are about Gon being a victim of child abuse/groominig (maybe not the best word for it, but i hope what im trying to say is clear). 

just a few off the top of my head:

jokes with hisoka. the amount of jokes around him having some weird perverted  thing for gon (a twelve yo) is astonoshing. I alwasy thought it was weird that characters wont even comment about it (at least not a real comment, more like one making a joke about what a perv he is)

and i could maybe excuse it as it being ‘hes a pretty important character’, but idk. still grosses me out and the fact nobody says anything. especially when that one scene when (in greed island) when hisoka is looking at G+K’s butts and they make him walk in front. I dont remember who it was but one of the adults (i dont think it was bisky but it could have been) just thought ‘oo hes so scary and powerful and a perv’ and nothiing about him literally looking at little kids butts...

palm. oh my god. i thought it was bad with hisoka but for another adult to ‘like’ gon?? i could have excused it as like- ‘oh you know, it just is part of his character, hes not meant to be likeable!’ BUT NO!!!!! because theres ANOTHER ONE!!!  they could have so tottally written around it too. (just throwing out random ideas here) could have made it that she an older sister and gon reminded her of her deceased brother? or it could have that she wanted him to jsut hang out iwth her becaue she has no other freinds (and that she just disliked killua, thats why she didnt ask him). 

but a date????? and then what also made me annoyed was that nobody had a problem with it?? i know i know, killua, right? but his annoyance wasnt that she was an ADULT, it was that she would hurt gon because shes creepy. 

cougars. i dont even know if anyone remembers this scene, its around the same time theyre living with palm. G+K are working out i think and K asks if hes ever been on a date before. 

(not totally accurate quotes, jsut what im trying to remember)

‘sure i am! with aunt mito’ K is suprised at first, but then hes like ahh of course. then G starts talking about his other ‘dates’, all female boats would show up at whale island and, some of the older women (with a type for ‘younger men’ as he put it) would teach G (again, his words) ‘teach him all sorts of things’ in exchange for a tour from Gon.

AND LIKE?! HUH?!?!?! ADULTS??? WITH A KID? NOT ONLY THAT BUT GON IS TWELVE THEN SO HOW OLD WAS HE WHEN THAT HAPPENED???? killua is shocked and goes ‘just how expeirenced is this guy??’ again, nothing being like ‘huh. thats weird and not healthy’. i can brush this off as killua being a kid, though. 

there really isnt a point of this i just kind of needed a place to say this publicly because i literally havent seen anybody talking about this (but could be wrong)z

getting back into the HxH fandom is like a dice roll every time i want to look up any media about them because art? immediet CP. fanfiction? proshipping and mischaracterization. it hurts. where do i find normal people in this fandom i dont wanna see anyone simping over a child predetor (looking at you hisoka stans)

reading peter parker angst/iron dad fics and i have such a love hate relationship with them- like, the one i’m reading rn has tony trying to adopt peter (bc ya know hes an orphan or smth) and deadass jsut starts calling him ‘pete’ out of nowhere 💀 boy you met like two minutes ago stfu 

like deadass one of my ff icks are just when the father or parental figure (usually theyre like stubborn reluctant types like aizawa or tony) get way too comfortable with the kid when they’ve known each other for barely two days- and i get obviously how hard it is to write a relationship developing like that, but honestly its worth it to not getting your fic to feel like a mess 

like its such a turn off to read the kid calling them ‘dad’ (which i already hate but thats a whole different can of worms)

okay so

i was reading a certain vigilante fic right. and let me be clear i do like this fic, i dont think its bad or badly written or anything like that- however i do ofc have things i dont like. and this isnt really much criticism and more just me needing to rant about this fic and fics in general because 💀 i know my friends dont want me to list all the things i think are annoying with ff 

and dont get me wrong, i know that ff for many people (me included) is a hobby and something to do in your past time. obviously maybe not everything can be edited or beta read or all too thought out. i get that. but well, i’m just here to complain. 

1. ‘izuku’

idk if its just me but i hate hate HATE when aizawa calls midoriya by his first name. i get under certain circumstances (like if aizawa adopts him or smth idk, personally i dont even like those fics), but if its just.. he is his teacher then its jsut.. uncomfortable. i don’t know how to explain how it makes me feel but. With Desperately Departing (and i’m just using this fic bc its pretty popular and well known, not to mention i’m reading it currently lol) aizawa and present mic just casually call midoriya by his first name. and usually that wouldnt bother me too much but it just feels so awkward and lowkey ooc for aizawa to call him that? like normally? and omg i’m gonna sound like such a sensitive loser but it just makes me want to close the fic. theres not much to this one but well, i thought i might as well mention it.

2. ‘bakugo redemption’

THIS ONE. THIS ONE OMG. as much as me, and i know a lot of you, like bakugo redemption arcs. i cannot stand it when someone does it poorly. again using Desperately Departing as an example: when i was reading this fic the author made bakugo suddenly become nice after midoriya… you know. and while i get it, and you know i dont mind it all too much but it just feels ooc. like, personally, i dont think bakugo would suddenly become the most gentle human being in the world becasue he thinks its ‘his fault’ and feels guilty. yes, i do think he would feel guilty about his death but then again i dont think he would truly do a complete 180. maybe he would become gentler sure, and maybe he would stop being a complete asshole. 

but i just cant help but despise ‘nice bakugo’, because thats not really who he is. it feels sort of like when people water him down to this mean bully, it takes away from who he really is. sometimes i think people forget that at the begging of the anime/manga whatever he is 14. hes my age- and i know ive done things that i’m not necessarily proud of. no person (especially kids) are evil like some people label him as. so when someone makes him ‘nice’, it feels like he is just some bully. 

god i cant really explain all too well- i’m actually in english class lol and i have so many thoughts and no words to put them on paper

nice bakugo doesnt feel true, because hes not mean in the first place. hes outgoing and brash sure, and in the begging of the series/manga ofc hes mean, but truly he is not a mean person (like, he was ‘nice’ before he was mean). he became mean because of the people around him feeding his ego since he was 4, and, personally, i think that if midoriya did die (in a certain water acrobatic way) bakugo wouldnt become some nice angel. i think he would feel guilty, sure, but i also dont think he would change. maybe he would realize how twisted the world and society is. maybe he realized how wrong he was. but i dont think he would become ‘nice’. at least not that kind of nice. 

does this make sense? i feel like ive been rambling for a while :p personally i dont really like DD all that much, and sometimes ill be reading it and feel like its very overhyped by the bnha fandom. but maybe i’m too harsh lol- its a perfectly good fic and has some pretty funny and sad moments. i do enjoy me sum angst lol

ALSO IM SORRY FOR USING DESPERATELY DEPARTING AS AN EXAMPLE SO MUCH ITS JUST THE ONLY FIC I COULD THINK OF CURRENTLY WITH THE THINGS I WANTED TO TALK ABOUTTTTTTT

update: i dropped desperatly departing, the meme references and ooc characters were too much for me 💀— and like i know its hard to write a character, that you didn’t make, act and behave in a way thats believable of them to but honestly. it was actually difficult to read.
