Ages Come and Pass
Ages Come and Pass by cleo4u2
Bucky doesn't fall off the train. Steve still goes into the ice. Time passes and they're reunited, but happy endings are never so easy. _________________________________________
This two part series is wonderful. Loved the retelling of events if Bucky hadn’t fallen off but Steve had still gone into ice. Bucky has so much love for Steve, it hurts. As the tag in the first fic rightly says “Bucky never stops loving Steve”. The second fic in the series is an interlude to the first fic. It describes a scene between them during the war in 1940s. The sex is absolutely delish!

Trust Enough
Trust Enough by: geneticallydead
“Saturday. Yeah, that’s good,” Steve says, and actually scuffs his shoe at the ground. Like a ridiculous shy superhero damsel. “Say eight? I live-“
“Yeah, big building with the A on it,” Bucky says, and can’t help a big stupid grin. Steve stares at him, looking a little dazed, and after their whole conversation it’s only now that Bucky’s brain catches up and realises Steve finds him quite attractive. So. Win for Bucky.
“Let me get your number,” Steve says finally, after they’ve stared stupidly at each other for about three hours, taking out his phone.
So they exchange numbers, and then Steve says he should go, and Bucky agrees, and they kind of stare at each other for a bit more, then Steve actually does go, but not before taking Bucky’s hand and squeezing it warmly in a way that makes Bucky want to shiver all over. Then Steve is gone, and Bucky is standing alone in the alley, grinning to himself.
Right up until the moment he remembers that Steve thinks Bucky is an escort he’s just hired.
Well fuck.

Saving Sergeant Barnes
Saving Sergeant Barnes by vulcansmirk
“Listen, I guess I don’t... I don’t mind, if you look through them,” Bucky mumbles. “But I don’t want you getting your hopes up, okay? There may not...” He grimaces. “There may not be a cure.”
Steve just shakes his head, sits back. “I can’t think like that, Buck. I won’t. There’s gotta be a way to give you your life back, and I’m gonna find it.”
When Steve finds a connection between Bucky's trigger words and the memories in his notebooks, he pours everything he has into deciphering the clues and cobbling Bucky's agency back together. But the road to recovery is long and perilous, and Bucky seems adamant that he stay off it altogether. Steve is left to answer the impossible question: how do you save someone who doesn't want to be saved?

Defender
Defender by SleepsWithCoyotes  or @ciceqi
Steve’s the Sacrifice for Defender until the serum changes everything.
There is beauty in how this author merges the Loveless universe and the Marvel one into one beautiful story that speaks of love as unavoidable as destiny.
Crossover, not canon compliant.

Blood and Honey by Claudia_flies
Blood and Honey by: Claudia_flies
A growl. It makes Steve’s knees turn into jelly and his body clench again. With dawning horror Steve realizes what is about to happen.
Or: The fight on the bridge doesn’t go as Hydra planned. Gratuitous a/o/b fic.

Good to You
Good to You by: glim
Half-formed visions of war room conversations and sketched out mission plans dissipate from Bucky's thoughts. Steve's in full dress uniform, buttoned up neat and tight into it, but it's only when they get into Steve's room, when Bucky catches another look on his face, that he realizes, yeah, Steve can't stand it anymore, he's tired and wound up.

I, The Paradox
I, The Paradox by  DrowningByDegrees, Hopeless--Geek (wuzzy90), Riakomai
Sharing a life with a recovering Winter Soldier means never quite escaping what Steve sees as his biggest failure. When one of Tony’s machines functions differently than advertised, Steve is given an unexpected opportunity to change the past. He’s spent so much time mapping out all the ways he could have saved Bucky from falling, but in the moment, he never stops to consider whether or not he should.
Actions have consequences, and meddling with time has more drastic ones than most. Steve wakes with two divergent timelines in his head, and two very different versions of Bucky in his bed. With the machine broken, and no idea whether their situation is permanent, this new arrangement promises to be an adjustment for all three of them. Only, that may not be the worst of their problems...
“I have been gushing about this fic for the longest, so I had rec it again. I, the paradox. Beautifully written and heartbreaking.“ -- @fannishlove

Project Kraken
Project Kraken by  cobaltmoony, Unforth
It's so cold.
So incredibly cold.
And as determined as Captain Rogers is to survive, the whiny, weak, all-too-human part of him knows the truth.
He's going to freeze to death.
And then - crack, crack, crack - there's someone outside his icy prison. Rescue has come. Rogers is going to survive this, he's going to be alright, he's going to see the war through, retrieve the Tesseract, do his duty...
...see Peggy again...
...but never Bucky, because Bucky is dead...
...and the ice over his face fractures.
His savior is revealed.
A man wearing a hat embroidered with the many-tentacled skull of Hydra.
Some things are worse than dying... - Written for the Captain America Reverse Bang. New chapters every other day, last chapter posts July 4th.

“It’s where I’m living now, yeah.”
Bucky comes home. Steve's a little slower on the uptake.

Love Is All You Keep
Love Is All You Keep by  SouthSideStory
James hardly knows Steve, but the man he used to be adored him with single-minded ferocity. Worshiped him with the purity of purpose that zealots reserve for their gods. It isn’t really surprising that devotion like this could persevere, adapting through death and rebirth.
Maybe this is what fools experience when they claim love at first sight. A passion too profound to ignore, despite the fact that it’s groundless. Loyalty, fondness, and intimacy that spring into being without reason. Love built on quicksand.

Holding you up to the sun
Holding you up to the sun by  actonbell
"Didn't you ever think about -- "
"Putting the fist of HYDRA up Captain America's ass? No, I can honestly say I never thought -- "
"Not that, Jesus Christ....Didn't you ever -- you know, try jerking yourself off with it? Fingering yoursel....?"
"Maybe, once or twice!" Bucky snapped, exasperated. "Sure! Like I told you, it's cold, it's metal, I have bad memories of strangling people with it. Kind of kills the mood." His smile was sharp and ugly.
Steve reached out with his left hand and traced the raised seam again, so gently he could barely feel the brutal join between flesh and metal. "Let's make some good ones, then. Please."
Bucky shut his eyes tight and shook his head. "You're fucking corny, Rogers. You know that? You were corny in 1933 and 1943 and you're corny now."
"That doesn't sound like a no," Steve said, hope springing up inside despite him fighting it, something painful.
"No, it's not a no. Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ. When have I ever said no to you?"
"You told me not to go to war," Steve said.

Sandwich 'verse
Sandwich 'verse series by toffeecape
Somebody Get That Kid A Sandwich
There would come a day when Sam Wilson could no longer put off a complete debriefing session with his Momma. On that day, Sam hoped to escape the conversation alive by glossing over 'following a juiced-up supersoldier on a brainwashed assassin's revenge tour' in favor of 'convincing a traumatized war hero to come in from the cold with the power of Wilson family recipes.'
Fluffernutter
In which Bucky gets to be fat and happy and bang Steve like a screen door in a hurricane. That's it. That's the fic.
Clubhouse
Explosions are the best revenge, but you'll get more mileage out of living well: a day in the life of Bucky Barnes.
Giant Space Lobsters And A Wedding
How was this Tony's life?
Cinnamon Honey
The newlywed adventures of two dirty old men.
Parfit Gentil
Natasha likes her job.
