I think of this #necklace as an #amulet and wear it around my neck as a ward. At the same time it is a #memory necklace for me because everything on it has a #story and is a visual remembrance. As I go through life I add to it; each item is something I feel connected to. ·  The stone axe-head keeps me connected to my “brother” ·  The lock is to remind me that there is a key, and no matter what problem is going on in life you can get out of it somehow ·  The #soapstone figure is from a close friend ·  The Zimbabwean #turquoise pieces keep me connected to my homeland ·  The #ammonite was given to me by another close friend ·  The acorn-shaped #charm is from #India ·  The coins bring back #childhood memories on the farm in #Zimbabwe. When I wear this necklace I feel like I am making a statement about who I am, I am sharing a part of  myself with the world. It is me saying “Look, I am many things”. ❤️ this story by @namitapdx 11.21.2018 I’ve worn these bangles since I was 16. My Dadu designed them and had them made in Brazil for my mom in 1963, just before she emigrated to the US. She’d never had gold bangles as a girl. A shocking absence when you consider her age - born in 1940 - and raised in India with a mother who loved jewelry. As they are growing too small for me to comfortably remove at airports (2 broke this year from being taken on and off twice or more a month), mom #gifted me with a lovely set of new bangles. Leila now wears the set Dadu made for my mom, her Aji. As Leila moved her arm in her sleep the first night of wearing them, she kept wondering why I was there all night, waking her up. #bangles #familyhistory #familystory #meaningsandattachments #wecarryourstorieswithus https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq41f3FlzMF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1etq3r9rve4vi

#Repost @annaloucah ・・・ Lovely to meet with Mah Rana and learn more of her @meaningsandattachments project. Being asked to bring a piece of jewellery to be photographed that meant a lot to me I chose my silver, larimer and mirror 'talisman' that I made when I very first started my business and wore constantly for many years. It was interesting to bring in out of hibernation and reflect on all that has changed and evolved within the years since I last wore it but strengthening to recognise that the amuletic and talismanic power held by jewellery is something that fascinates me as much today as it did a decade ago. #talisman #amulet #sentiment #sentimentaljewellery #meaningsandattachments

@jesspleasejp I wear these hand made #koala and #eucalyptus leaf pendants to remind me of my 10 month traveling adventure in #Australia last year. The koala has 3 parts so as it hangs it moves and is brought to #life. The eucalyptus leaf was picked and casted into two #pendants for my #travel buddy and me by someone we stayed with who taught us a lot about #aussie #culture and #nature. #handmade #meaningsandattachments #jewelleryislife #jewellerystories #whatisyourstory Thanks Jess 👋

#Repost @wellsdaniella with @repostapp ・・・ @meaningsandattachments #safetypin #necklace Given to me by Janice Blackburn when I was working at Sothebys about 15 years ago. Feels wonderful to wear. When I started wearing it in the prestigious, formal auction house it felt a brilliant contrast to it's likely beginnings in rural Africa. Field craft with recycled materials - to Bond Street. It's beautifully made and I wear it regularly. It still feels very contemporary even though it's already something I feel nostalgic about. #fieldcraft #african #recycling #materials #craft #jewelry #contemporaryjewellery

#Repost @studioslave.johnblinesart My favourite piece of jewellery. Commissioned 18ct yellow gold half round band, hand chiselled engraving of Chamonix then a snowflake then John then another snowflake. My husband, son and I went to the top of Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix in the French Alps on Christmas Day 2008 to renew our wedding vows. We exchanged these rings (my husband wears an identical ring, with the exception of my name instead of his ;-)

I was given this necklace by my boyfriend when I was moving away for uni, it isn’t an overly expensive piece of jewellery but it means a lot to me as it always reminds me of him, the places we have been and the many things we have done together,
I love this necklace and I wear it everywhere, I never take it off.

The item I have chosen carries a great amount of sentimental value to me. My boyfriend gave the ring to me as a gift. For me it is both the story and the journey the ring took before it was placed upon my finger, which gives it its value and importance. My boyfriend designed the ring alongside a close friend of his who is a trained silversmith. The ring was then handcrafted from silver. Once it was finished we made the decision to have the inside edge engraved with a saying which is personal to the both of us. It is the thought and time but also the deeper personal meaning along side the fact that the ring is handcrafted which gives the item greater amount of significance to me.
“It is ‘special’ or rare because it is handmade and perhaps customised; sophisticated because the making of the object required skill; it is precious due to materials or time invested in labour, it is expressive – in terms of subject-matter, function, traditional or historical reference, and is enduring.” (Dormer, 1997 p85)

I have chosen to photograph my gold ring as it is important to me in two ways. Firstly it is my wedding ring of 33 years marriage to my wonderful wife Anne. Secondly it was made by my mum who at 91 this year and has decided that she cannot create as much jewellery work as she used to.

This is my lucky watch. It was my grandfather’s watch before he gave it to me, not long before he died when I was around the age of 7. It is an automatic mechanical watch, meaning it has no battery, instead a pendulum inside winds the spring as I move when I wear it.
I wear this watch every day I can, and it only stays ticking when I wear it consistently. I use it as a bit of a metaphor, as long as I keep the thought of my grandad with me consistently, he is still with me, ticking away on my wrist.
