Hey all. Sorry for disappearing for so long. I was kinda boycotting the browser version of the site because of the layout change. I see that effort was for naught. I'm not sure I'm really coming back. Just thought I'd check in.

Gwen set down her candle, making sure it wasn’t too close to anything flammable and wouldn’t be easily knocked over, then slowly and carefully--telegraphing her movements so as not to startle Morgana further--moved toward her friend. Once within easy reach, she held out her arms to invite an embrace should Morgana feel the need for it. Truly, she hoped Morgana would take the invitation. Her dear friend looked and sounded as though she sorely needed comfort.

"It's all right, Morgana. It's only been a week, after all. Whatever new duties I took on in your absence can be taken by others. You're my priority right now. Is there anything you need? I can go to Gaius and ask for a sleeping draught to ward off any unwanted dreams."

I missed you, too.

The words remained unspoken for the moment, but their meaning was clear in Gwen's behaviour. This was how she had always been with Morgana. Usually she said what she meant, but there were times when the words didn't need to be spoken.

She turns at the sudden sound , she had only recently returned to the castle and after recent events her jumping was more plausible but her friend didn’t even know .

Her father had sent her away once again after the ‘incident’ as he had referred to it as . He had acted as if it hadn’t even happened when she’d been brought back to the castle disheveled and a mess of sobs .

“Gwen — I ,” she swiped at her eyes to try and cover what had been happening but it was obvious . “Just got back in , I didn’t want to bother you right away I’m sure you’ve grown accustomed to new duties in my absence .”

She moves now from the window she had been stood by , towards her maid and friend .

“I missed you ,” she hopes questions don’t come , she knows she doesn’t look well , she knows there is evidence for once . All she wants is to have a nice bath and meal perhaps just head to bed .

“Have I missed much ?” It was only a week she had been gone this time . It was a mystery as to why she acted as if Gwen hadn’t witnessed her disappearances from time to time before . But they had never spoken of them . The reasons or anything as even she was not entirely sure of it all .

i've come to realize there are only two kinds of tragedies: preventable and inevitable. preventable tragedies are the kind where everything could have maybe worked out if only. if only romeo had gotten the second letter. if only juliet had woken up earlier. if only creon had changed his mind about antigone sooner. if only orpheus hadn't turned around.

inevitable tragedies are the kind where everything was always going to end terribly. of course macbeth gets deposed, he murdered his way to the throne. of course oedipus goes mad, he married his own mother. of course achilles dies in the war, he had to fulfill the prophecy in order to avenge his lover.

both kinds have their merits. the first is more emotionally impactful, letting the audience cling to hope until the very end, when it's snatched away all at once leaving nothing but a void. the second is more thematically resonant, tracking an inherent fatal flaw in its hero to a natural and understandable conclusion, making it abundantly clear why everything has to happen the way it does.
