hello miles. I am wondering: how do you stay motivated to learn so many languages? is it difficult to understand multiple languages at once? thanks.

Hi Lu!Seeing others studying languages, for example on tumblr, makes me motivated! I also think it’s important to have a goal when you learn languages. What do I want to achieve? I think most of us, at least I, want to achieve to understand our target language and to be understood. I think I stay motivated by thinking on what I want to achieve, and that is to be able to talk to different people and to understand them in their language.

To understand multiple languages at once can be tricky! I was born bilingual so to understand many languages at once is not a big problem for me. But I do mix languages sometimes. When I don’t remember a word in Swedish, I will replace it with an English word. We call that “Svengelska” in Sweden, and it is used very often by many people here.

Can you guys understand multiple languages at once?

I was tagged by @beevean to answer some questions about myself!

1. What is your earliest memory? 
I have a vague picture in my mine of me peeling a tangerine for my grandfather, who died when I was three years old.

2. Do you have any inside memes with your friend(s)? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.  

3. If you could play a musical instrument, which would it be? I have played the violin since I was 9 years old and the guitar since I was 12 years old, but I would like to be able to play the piano.

4. Do you gesticulate a lot? Yes, and sometimes a bit too much...

5. Are you good at imitating people and/or accents? I'm definitely not good at impressions, but I wish I was!

6. What is/was your favourite subject at school? My favourite subjects at school were German and art. 

7. Do you like video games? If so, which genre? I'm afraid I don't play video games. I get a feeling of nausea (especially from the PlayStation Harry Potter game!)

8. Do you believe in fate? No, I don't believe in fate

9. Is there a classic book you genuinely enjoy? I enjoy reading everything by Oscar Wilde. But my favourite must be The picture of Dorian Gray

10. How much do you watch television these days? I never watch television, but I watch Netflix on my tv.

11. How messy is your room? My room is not messy at the moment, but I'm pretty sure It will be in a few days.

Let me introduce myself to you

My name is Miles and I'm currently 20 years old. My blog is a place for my fascination for languages and I will share vocab lists and other language-related posts as often as I can.

I can speak English and Swedish fluently and I'm capable of speaking German and Japanese. I am also interested in French, but we do not get along well together. I am of course open to learning all sorts of languages, so feel free to message me!
