if its an older, popular out of copyright book, librivox has it too. it is a community oriented audiobook creation and distribution website. i recorded a book on there too. so can you :)

I think it says a lot about this site's echo chamber that even ostensibly left-wing users blame JKR's ongoing fame on the HP fandom and not her massive right-wing/anti-trans political backing.

Especially that post comparing her to to Neil Gaiman who, while being an awful person and famous in nerd circles, never became as famous or rebranded as a political figurehead (no, telling people it's ok to be gay on Tumblr doesn't count.)

Tumblr is not a microcosm for western politics, and fandom in general is less relevant than many here think. Someone who never leaves fandom/cynical lefty anti-fandom Tumblr might have the impression that both authors have equal fame and political sway but I promise you they do not.

Even if every HP fan on this site decided to delete their blogs, JKR would still have her massive platform. It's not good to keep giving her properties money but even if people didn't, she would still have the same transphobic influence she does today. It's far too late. Even if all of Harry Potter was suddenly gone. She does not need Harry Potter or its Tumblr fandom anymore to stay relevant.

I feel the phrase “Aro/Ace people can still date/have sex” has just morphed into a new version of “you just haven’t found the right person yet.”

Yes we can. But it’s our call if we do. And it’s certainly not gonna be with anyone who tries to use the fluidity of our experiences as a clap back to break firmly set boundaries.

And that fluidity doesn’t make sexual/romantic repulsion that some of us experience any less true or valid.

I’ve never had sex and I never will. The sheer concept of it viscerally disgusts me.

I’ve never experienced any form of sexual attraction and know at this point i likely never will. I have zero framework for it when people talk about it. It confuses me.

“Little to no romantic/sexual attraction” has a no in it for a reason. Because aro/ace people who don’t experience sexual/romantic attraction at all regardless of circumstance are in fact real.

Other ace people have different experiences. They’re allowed to. Their experiences aren’t mine or anyone else’s to make. Nor are mine theirs.

Sexualities are complicated and often fluid sure. But one thing they’re not is negotiable.

Ace peoples boundaries are ours to make and yours to respect. No ifs or buts. You don’t get a say in it.

There's wholesome ships and there's toxic ships, but I'd like to coin 'sodium chloride ships', where the individuals involved are both horrible and dangerous people, but somehow being together renders them surprisingly well-adjusted (if a little salty).

Some day I want to see a show that does the “no filler episodes” thing from the opposite direction. Just a whole season worth of low-stakes character pieces that seem to move the overall story absolutely nowhere, then episode 26 pulls all the triggers at once and this massive Rube Goldberg machine of a plot the show’s been quietly setting up in the background the whole time hits you like a truck.
