Spring Time Legends & Lore
Tumblr media
Hare
The Easter Bunny is of German origin. He shows up in 16th century literature as a deliverer of eggs, in his own way a springtime St. Nicholas bent on rewarding the good.
In Celtic mythology and folklore the hare has links to the mysterious Otherworld of the supernatural.
The Celts believed that the goddess Eostre's favourite animal and attendant spirit was the hare.
Many Buddhist and Hindu texts describe the hare as a creature of fire, but not just any fire, the same consuming sacrificial fire of the phoenix, then to rise again out of the ashes.
To the Romans, the hare is an emblem of fertility, abundance, sexuality, lust, rampant growth and excess.
Eggs
Eggs have forever been associated with spring time. Ancient Egyptians, Persians, Romans, Gauls, and Chinese all embraced the egg as a symbol of the universe.
Druids buried eggs dyed red, the color of menstrual blood, in freshly plowed fields to draw the goddess of spring from her slumber and to ensure abundance and fertility for the year.
In Egypt and Persia eggs were decorated at the beginning of the year. The decorated eggs were exchanged at the equinox, the eggs symbolizing creation and fertility.
Early humans thought the return of the sun from winter darkness was an annual miracle, and saw the egg as a natural wonder and proof of the renewal of life.
As Christianity spread, the egg was adopted as a symbol of Christ’s resurrection from the tomb. Hardboiled eggs were dyed red in memory of Christ’s blood, then given to children as a talisman to preserve their health over the ensuing twelve months.
Pace eggs are kept year-round in British households for luck.
The protective qualities of the scarlet-dyed egg are still invoked in parts of Europe to guard fields and vineyards from lightning and hail, one is usually buried on the property for that purpose
According to European superstition, once an egg is consumed, its shell must be broken up lest a witch use it to gain power over the person who ate from it. A witch might also make a boat from an intact shell, then set sail in it and wreck ships at sea. Discarded eggshells should never be burned because doing so will cause the hens to cease to lay.
Spring Deities
Anglo-Saxons worshiped Eostre, the moon Goddess of spring and fertility.
The Druids worshiped Blodeuwedd, the Goddess of fertility, magick, and dawn.
In Roman mythology, Flora is the goddess of flowers and of the season of spring.
The Ancient Greek goddess Persephone is associated with spring.
The celtic Goddess Brigit is honored at the festival of Imbolc which celebrates the first stirrings of Spring.
Freya is the Nordic fertility Goddess associated with spring growth and flowers.
Spring Flora
Clover and other three-leaved plants were once considered spring gifts from the fairies to protect us and bring us luck.
Easter Lilies symbolize purity and spring time.
Other Wives tales
An old wives tale says  a wind that blows on Easter Day will continue to blow throughout the year, and that a shower of rain promises a good crop of grass but little hay.
Children born on Easter Day are deemed especially fortunate. Those born on Good Friday, however, are doomed to be unlucky.

Magick for Spring Time
Tumblr media
❁ Do a ‘spring cleaning’ by cleaning and cleansing your whole house.
❁ Do a ritual to welcome spring.
❁ Begin devoting your time to learning, reading, and writing about your craft.
❁ Use divination to determine your goals and outcomes for the year.
❁ Start your seeds inside.
❁ Spoil your houseplants by watering them, fertilizing them, and talking to             them. Add crystals to their pots.
❁ Spend time outside noticing signs of springs return.
❁ Change your altar to correspond with spring.
❁ Collect rain water from spring showers.
❁ Collect flower blossoms to dry and press for your spells and grimoire.
❁ Collect spring stream water.
❁ Meditate in the greening grass.
❁ De-clutter your home to bring forth fresh, new energies.
❁ Plant wild flowers for the bees.
I meant to post this sooner but life seems to have gotten in the way.
May the moon light your path! Moonlight Academy

A Witch’s Journal
Tumblr media
Although I do have a grimoire, I use a journal to track my day-to-day practices that I do not usually include in my grimoire. A witch’s journal is a great place to record your feelings and discover any repeating symbols that you may not have noticed if you hadn’t written them down.  It is a great way to look through and see how much your craft has grown.
Things you could include:
Dreams and visions with any interpretations you have
Day-to-day magickal practice
Symbols that may seem important
Astral protection experiences
Meditation  journeys
A list of books you read and any important magickal teachings you learned from them
Progress of any castings or “spell tracking”
Magick Workings
Events and decisions in your life that affect your magickal workings
Magickal goals and plans
Maintenance and home cleaning/cleansing
Daily rituals or habits
Astrological events and any symbols or visions you may have received that are connect to the event
Things to include in each entry:
The moon phases
Weather
Date
Emotion
Position of the moon in the zodiac
Season
Time
Another short post but I hope it may inspire some people.
May the moon light your path

Astral Projection
Tumblr media
What is astral projection?
Astral projection is also known as an out of body experience. Astral projection can take place whether you are sleeping or awake. It is done when your conscious mind leaves your physical body on earth to a different dimension while staying connected by a silver cord. The cord makes it possible to come back to your earthly self. It enables your spirit body to explore the astral realm.  It is said that Astral Projection helps you become your truest and highest self. Astral Projecting is the floating and lifting of your physical being through the use of your astral body.
Practices to Help with Astral Travel
Relax and Practice Proper Breathing techniques
Spiritually cleanse
Practice visualization
Counting up or down while focusing your breathing
Improve your concentration
Deep breathing exercises
Become Aware and Mindful
Grounding
Shielding and Protection
Intent
Spiritual and Physical Protection
Work on your inner energies
Meditate
Astral Plane
A place where angels, spirits, deities, and other cosmic beings reside. It is a place where ones astral body travels through. It may also be recognized as the “emotional plane,” because the astral plane reacts to our emotions, thoughts, and desires.
The Silver Cord
The silver cord anchor's ones astral body to their physical body. The silver cord allows you to find your way back to the physical realm. It is described as being strong, almost indestructible, yet soft and elastic that can stretch and flex to make sure that the astral body is truly tethered to the physical one.
Risks of Astral Projection
Exhaustion
Obscuring your focus causing obsession with the astral plane
Demonic Possession - A greatly debated topic, the truth of which is unknown.
You may become lost or disconnected from the cord - Some argue that you cannot severe the cord, some believe that becoming disconnected from the cord will cause death.
Conclusion: The dangers of astral projection are extremely controversial, be sure to do proper research and follow your gut!
Astral Travel Tips
Look after your mental and physical health.
Only travel when you have peace of mind, never when anxious or angry.
Release all fear, do not project if you are fearful of the astral plane.
STUDY
Record your experiences
Protect yourself by a visualization of pure white light
Wear loose fitting clothing and project in a warm room.
PRACTICE
Experiment with different methods
Signs you are astral projecting
You're feeling a sort of numbness or buzzing in your skin
You're hearing all sorts of strange sounds, like going through all sorts of random radio stations really fast
Your body is frozen and you can only move your eyes ("sleep paralysis")
You're feeling or hearing other people or animals in your room
Your body turns all liquidy like water and parts of you start floating
Your mind is spacing in and out of sleep
Sources: operationmeditation.com, howtolucid.com, wudzink.com, felipephotons.com
This is a basic guide to astral travel, do your own research before attempting astral travel! Be safe!

Thanks for the mention :)
Do you have any resources you'd recommend to a baby witch who doesn't even know where to start? Blogs, books, articles, masterposts, anything? Cheers
I know lots of good blogs that post about witchcraft, and maybe by reading through their posts you can get an idea of how to start?
@cosmic-witch
@orriculum
@witchy-woman
@breelandwalker
@moonlightacademy
@modernwitchesdaily
There are tons more as well, this is by no means a comprehensive list haha. I also suggest that if you use any witchcraft websites, be very careful as there can be lots of misinformation online (same with blogs of course)
Anyways, sorry if this wasn’t very helpful 😅

Monday: Altars
Does your practice incorporate the use of altars?
Are altars imperative to have for casting?
What are pros and cons of altars?
Do you prefer casting at your altar or is your place of magick not set or permanent?
What entity (if any) is your altar dedicated to?
What objects do you keep permanently on your altar? What purpose or personal meaning does it have?
Do you change your altar to correspond with the sabbats?
Draw and label a diagram of your altar. Include an explanation of their meaning to you.
Tuesday: Sigils
Are sigils something you use through out your practice?
Choose your three favorite sigils. Include their meanings as well as any personal interpretations. Why are they your favorites? What is the most common place that you add sigils too?
Research and write down the steps to take in order to create a sigil. Use these steps to create your own sigil.

For each profile be sure to include the following: Any lore, superstitions, their meanings to you, their magickal and spiritual meanings, and ways they can be incorporated into your craft.

So @annaveth was talking about wanting to learn more about witchcraft and since I’m a baby witch who has to keep their practice pretty lowkey and study mostly from reliable tumblr blogs I offered to make a rec list for them. Sorry it’s so long but all of these blogs are amazing and super helpful. Even if it seems like a ridiculous question that you should know the answer to, they’re more than happy to help.
