WOW! I never imagined anything in the umbrella academy would make me want to retract my skin into my muscles more than Luther and Allison's weird season one relationship, but Steve Blackman never fails to surprise me.

honestly, the more times i watch umbrella academy, the less upsetting i find luther and allison’s relationship….. like don’t get me wrong. i still hate it and would prefer no vaguely incestuous storylines in the show. but when i think about how fucked up and unusual their childhood was, i find it difficult to be all “that’s your sibling don’t be gross!!” because like. they were never told what was or wasn’t ‘normal’. how were they supposed to know any better??

The moon is a loyal companion. It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human. Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections. The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.

Going to the academy was scary, no matter how many years she had been there already, it was still a bit scary to be around so many people and to have to uphold her image as to not shame her father. Still, she couldn't be other than what she was, the kindness of the moon in her eyes, as gentle as the midnight breeze. She had caught sight of a classmate crouching and staring intensely at the ground, even after Iruka-sensei had called them back inside.
Tumblr media
Sheepishily she walked up to him, tiny hands shaking before she spoke. ❛  S-shino-kun...?  ❜ Hinata spoke his name softly, crouching a few steps away. ❛  A-are you okay? I-iruka-sensei said we should g-go back inside.  ❜  Hinata tilted her head, curious as to what her classmate was doing. They weren't friends. She didn't have any, but Shino was one of the people she admired within her class.

hi sorry I'm new to these kinds of award shows. do they not tell the winners they've won ahead of time??
nowadays most "award" shows are bullshit, like the VMAs and AMAs and stuff like that. they predetermine the winners based on who they want to attend and who they can get to attend. so you're right to be skeptical. they are fan voted or whatever anyway so they don't matter.
but more serious award shows are academy based, or some equivalent, where you need to be invited and an active participant in the industry for which the awards are honoring to vote. whether it's the recording academy for the grammys or the motion picture academy for the oscars, and so on. even critics choice, where you need to be a critic of movies and tv and get invited. The winners are kept a secret, even from the people who put on the show. they usually use third party accounting firms to handle the vote count and those firms pretty much create the winning envelopes and deliver them to the award show sealed. sometimes they show shots backstage of the envelopes all sitting on a table that is heavily guarded. and they always have seals because that's easier to tell that it's been tampered with, when the seal is broken. that's why you will see no names on the trophies until the after party, where you have those famous photos of celebs getting their oscars engraved at the engraving station. sometimes it's obvious that someone will win, and that person knows its inevitable, but yes, they do not tell the winners ahead of time cuz nobody but the accounting firm even knows who they are until you rip open that seal.

Another day, another ask, but this time, it's about what are some currently airing shows that you're watching and really enjoying and how would you describe what you like about them briefly?
For example, The Warp Effect: Wholesome and sex positive QL, with so much representation and topics brought up weekly. Nothing like what I was expecting - in the best way.
Happy (Belated) Valentine's Day @sliceduplife! I hope it was kind to you because my response is going to be just like me and my favorite characters - problematic and absolute basura!
To begin, I'm actually going to tell you what I'm rewatching instead of currently watching:
Great Men Academy - Much like 3 Will Be Free and The Warp Effect, Great Men Academy isn't a BL, but it doesn't stop it from being queer af. It has a unicorn that grants wishes, a magical lake that requires nudity to activate, a ghost, a school sanctioned Hunger Games, body swapping, and an Elite level moment:
Tumblr media
If you don't get the Elite reference, know that this lead-paint-level-toxic hottie, Cruz, delivered the best line ever uttered in the series:
Tumblr media
¡No soy gay! Ni bi. Ni tri. ¡Soy futbolista! (I'm not gay! Not bi. Not tri. I'm a footballer!) <- I say "¡Soy futbolista!" all of the time when people ask about my sexuality without clarification and leave them in their confusion.
*moving on to your actual ask*
The Warp Effect - I came for Joy, the cinematographer who also did KinnPorsche, and Jojo, the director who does everything else I love, but stayed to see all the ways people could come... to an understanding about their sexuality. Also, it's very queer.
Tumblr media
My Beautiful Man 2 - I do not condone stalking, but when it comes to my idol and his devoted worshiper, I'm trying to invent new ways of stalking, so Hira can always be within a 100 yards of Kiyoi. They should be more red flags than California during fire season, yet they are wholesome and adorable.
Tumblr media
Well...in a very kinky way, kinda like these two wild kids from Secretary
Tumblr media
Never Let Me Go - It has a teenager becoming the CEO of his family's multi-million dollar company and another teenager being his bodyguard falling in love! How could I not love it?! It's outrageous! And somehow the most unrealistic thing about this plot is there being a genuine good guy who openly talks about bitcoins, and I LOVE HIM! I did not have falling in love with a man who enjoys "investing" on my BINGO card, but then again, look at my very good boy. LOOK AT HIM!
Tumblr media
Hit Bite Love - It's so messy. It has stepbrothers in love, open discussions about condom sizes and lubricant, Kinks-R-Us, a bi Burger looking for his King, and so much more. This past episode hid a pivotal scene behind a paywall due to the two characters having sex in the school's locker room, so half of the plot was missing in the edited version. It made NO SENSE, but I didn't care. Give me all the mess, but I draw the line at taking off your sock and putting it in someone's mouth. BAD BOY! VERY BAD BOY!
Tumblr media
The End of the World with You - Japanese BLs stress me out. They give me a lot of an anxiety, and I'm constantly preparing for someone to die or for one of them to be a murderer. Even in the "happiest" Japanese BLs, there always exist this undercurrent of malice..and I'm attracted to it. >insert Ritsu aka El Diablo<
Tumblr media
Moonlight Chicken - Eff "More than Friends, Less than Lovers!" That's child's play. Give me my HussyVille Gang Gang! Give me the "we've been breaking beds and each other's backs since day one, but I'm not even sure what his name is, and if I'm being honest, I don't really need to know" squad. Then, on top of that, it's EarthMix doing the devil's boogie?! I waited for over a year for this, and I don't say this often when it comes to men, but the anticipation was worth it.
Tumblr media
HIStory 5: Love in the Future - I will always show up to a Taiwanese BL. They are like Rihanna at the Super Bowl. They do the bare minimum but are still very entertaining, include all the fan favorites (domestic bliss, high heat, office romances, good side couples, marriage equality), and pop out with a few surprises. Others may be disappointed, but I am ALWAYS pleased.
Tumblr media
My School President - Did you read the list before this? There is a common underlying theme. Even if the show isn't messy, I'm going to find the mess and fixate on it, and it doesn't get stranger than Por's obsession with the chinchilla. GMM better get on merchandising this critter ASAP because there is a gold mine behind this, capitalizers.
Tumblr media
Bed Friend - It hasn't started yet, but I'll be watching it. It has a Blue Boy and Red Rascal BUT they are not who would normally be coded that way, which means they are clearly going to have to resolve the reasons why they changed their behavior to cover up their obvious colors. Who hurt our Red Rascal that he turned into a nun? Who harmed our Blue Boy to make him the slutty slut he is? I cannot wait to find out!
Tumblr media
Chains of Heart - One word: Papi. Wait, sorry. Let me try again: Poppy. The show has a plot, and I care about it, but...Poppy. He is playing a bad guy, which I got a glimpse of in Love Mechanics, so I'm hoping it means we get to see more of him, and I don't mean screen time, although I wouldn't be opposed to that either. Obviously, I have to be interested in the actual plot since he is a supporting character...but POPPY! mmmm, papi!

𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐈𝐗: 𝐌𝐎𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 | 𝟑𝟎-𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐄
SUMMARY | A dark soliloquy by two misunderstood ravens.
Tumblr media
[intro]
WEDNESDAY
Now the hour has come at last
The soft and fading light
Has crossed the west horizon
And has bidden us goodnight
GOODY
And what a lovely night it is
To walk a moonlit field
To see the softest shades
Thar are by starlight now revealed
WEDNESDAY
So why is it that now
When all is quiet and at rest
When candles glow and all the world is at its very best
GOODY
The people of our Jericho should lock themselves away
To shun the vagabonds and bow to Crackstone’s holy reign
WEDNESDAY
Am I so wrong to wish that they would see things like I do?
GOODY
And am I so wrong to think that they might have me to?
WEDNESDAY & GOODY
Why shouldn’t they accept me?
GOODY
Is it not within my right?
WEDNESDAY
I’ll not be overshadowed
Mine is not the lesser light
I’ve waited long enough now for them all to come around
And though the sun may plead and threaten
GOODY
The moon will stand her ground
It comes to this at last
I will no longer yield the sky
If they cannot have but all outcasts condemned
WEDNESDAY
See the moon is rising
She has come to claim the power for her own
WEDNESDAY & GOODY
And thou will know the wonders
Of my dark and jeweled sky
When all the world is wrapped in an eternal lullaby
GOODY
So say goodnight to this
WEDNESDAY
The final setting of the sun
GOODY
Tomorrow dawns and darkness
WEDNESDAY & GOODY
The nighttime has
WEDNESDAY
Begun

Update 2: I have re written the basic plot of moonlight academy because the original plot was honestly boring as hell and it didn’t give me much to work with. I won’t spoil anything but let’s just say the new moonlight academy is still silly and fun but will have some more serious themes and characters.
Also I just want to say thank you to one of my friends for helping with the moonlight academy rewrite if you are reading this thank you so much!

Moonlight (2016, Barry Jenkins)
14/11/2023
Moonlight is a 2016 film written and directed by Barry Jenkins, based on the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney.
The film was positively criticized and won numerous awards, including the Best Film Award from the National Society of Film Critics, the Golden Globe for Best Drama and three Oscars for Best supporting actor, for best non-original screenplay and for best film: it is the first LGBT-themed film to obtain this recognition (after Philadelphia), as well as the first with a cast entirely made up of African Americans, and the second for the highest grossing low (behind The Hurt Locker which won in 2010).
Chiron is an African-American child originally from Liberty City, called "Little" by everyone. He and his mother live together in a Miami neighborhood marked by drugs and violence.
As an adult Chiron becomes a drug dealer in a bad neighborhood of Atlanta and there he tries to live on his own, armed with his faithful revolver.
In 2003, Tarell Alvin McCraney wrote a semi-autobiographical play, In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, partly to deal with the death of his AIDS-stricken mother.
After the release of his first film, Medicine for Melancholy in 2008, Barry Jenkins wrote several screenplays, none of which went into production. He and producer Romanski began brainstorming sessions via video chat twice a month about his projects, and shortly thereafter Jenkins began work on the script for McCraney, which he learned about through Borscht's Miami arts collective. After consulting with McCraney, Jenkins wrote the first draft of the film during a month-long stay in Brussels.
Jenkins sought financing for the film throughout 2013, finding success after sharing the script with Plan B Entertainment executives at that year's Telluride Film Festival. Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner became producers of the film, while A24 undertook to finance it and handle worldwide distribution, which also marked the company's first production.
The film had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and subsequently at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, and at the New York Film Festival in October.
The film was chosen as the opening film of the 2016 Rome Film Festival. Its first television appearance took place on 4 March 2018 on Sky Cinema with the title Moonlight - Tre storie di una vita.
On the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes the film receives 98% of positive professional reviews with an average rating of 9.00 out of 10 based on 384 critics, while on Metacritic it obtains a score of 99 out of 100 based on 53 criticism.

crowd vs. critic single take // THE APARTMENT (1960)
Tumblr media
Note: This is a modified version of a review originally written for ZekeFilm. Photo credits: IMDb.com.
Need a creative way to climb the corporate ladder? C.C. “Bud” Baxter might have found the solution. To garner his bosses’ favor, he lends his apartment out to them for their extramarital trysts. But as if scheduling the time he can spend at home weren’t complicated enough, he discovers a new wrinkle: the co-worker he’s trying to romance (Shirley MacLaine) is one of the mistresses his residence accommodates.
Tumblr media
CROWD // Writer-director Billy Wilder got a kick out of straightforward character dramas, and he found his mojo when he was writing “just” a man and a woman talking. He found it in Sabrina and Sunset Blvd., but his mojo arguably worked its magic best in The Apartment. (No matter how you rank those three, we can agree they all beat Love in the Afternoon.) Lemmon and MacLaine bring fully realized people to a New York City apartment, he an insecure conformist, she a wounded spark. They’re both dreamers of a kindred sort, ones who yearn for the stability that comes with unconditional acceptance. For something so simple, The Apartment digs deeper and darker than you’d think if you’ve only seen the image of Lemmon and MacClaine’s playful hand of gin rummy. Yes, it’s witty (“When you’re in love with a married man, you shouldn’t wear mascara.”), but it’s just as heartbreaking. (In the age of #MeToo, it weighs in a new way.) Today’s Hollywood may not be so enamored with stories that feel this small, but today’s audiences will find it just as moving and winsome.
POPCORN POTENTIAL: 8.5/10
Tumblr media
CRITIC // I get a kick out of the original posters for this film: “Movie-wise, there has never been anything like The Apartment, love-wise, laugh-wise, or other-wise!” While that sounds like typical marketing hyperbole, the Academy seemed to agree: The Apartment was nominated for 10 awards and won 5, including top dogs Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture.
Would the today’s Academy be so enamored with Wilder’s writing/directing/producing gig? I don’t think so, but that says more about the their current tastes than about this title. Voters now like their films historical (12 Years a Slave, Argo, The King’s Speech), artsy/experimental (Moonlight, Birdman, The Artist, Parasite, Nomadland, Everything Everywhere All at Once), or issues-focused (Spotlight, The Hurt Locker, Slumdog Millionaire, The Shape of Water, Green Book), and they like them most when they can combine them. A straightforward, contemporary character drama about a 9-to-5 office job wouldn’t rank high their Oscar bait checklist; so much so, the only Best Picture nominees in the last 10 years with any resemblance are CODA, Lady Bird, Marriage Story, and Silver Linings Playbook. But even if this film isn’t the Oscar bait we’re familiar with today, don’t underestimate the poignant performances actors like Lemmon, MacLaine, and Fred MacMurray can find in a Wilder script or the commentary on corporate culture a Wilder script can find.
ARTISTIC TASTE: 9/10
