Things to put in your book of shadows

Texas Folklore, Magic, Myths, Legends, Witchcraft + More!
In my research as a beginner witch, I've found little-to-no records and evidence of witchcraft in my home state, Texas. So, I've taken it upon myself to do as much research as I can, and compile it for my fellow Texan witches! This series will be a continual work-in-progress, so check back if this is something that interests you! And, of course, if you have any specific requests for information, don't hesitate to shoot me a message in my ask box!

Buyers Beware - Andara "Crystals"
TLDR: It's glass slag with buzzwords sold for an iPad's worth of money.
Explanation and examples below the cut.
Archive of post.
Andara crystals are said to contain the prima-materia of alchemic fame, found by a Native shaman on a sacred site near a spiritual vortex, often claimed to be Mt. Shasta in California. Andara crystal is said to be both Atlanean and Lemurian; a stone of ascended masters, saints, and angels that vibrates in higher densities. It can clear "electromagnetic smog," activates and aligns all chakras, and accelerates spiritual growth. They are also said to be monatomic, completely missing the point of the term, which is often applied to gases made of one atom, such as helium.
What is slag? Smelt byproduct, which is notably not natural crystal or glass. Andara crystals have comparable composition to artificial soda-lime glasses over natural glasses like obsidian. Glass is not monatomic; it is commonly made from silicon dioxide, the same material as quartz.
Do you want to know how much they sell for?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Below is a search for glass slag.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty similar in appearance, huh? That yellow piece is very pretty; I bet I could take it for 12$ and sell it as "Golden Light Pleiadean Ascended 6D Shaman Monatomic Andara Crystal" for 500$, and someone would buy it for that amount.
Is this worth it because they've shoved a bunch of spiritual words into the title and description promising the sun and moon to you if you pony up the cash for them?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The reason why they price them so high is people do buy them at these prices, because many people have no idea what they're actually buying.
You're not buying communication to angels. You're not buying a spiritual accelerant. You're not buying a chakra opener. You're buying well-advertised glass.

My Grimoire Research Library
this is a list of my major resource I've referenced/am currently referencing in my big grimoire project. For books I'll be linking the Goodreads page, for pdfs, websites and videos i'll link them directly.
There are plenty of generalised practitioner resources that can work for everyone but as I have Irish ancestry and worship Hellenic deities quite a few of my resources are centred around Celtic Ireland, ancient Greece and the Olympic mythos. If you follow other sects of paganism you are more than welcome to reblog with your own list of resources.
Parts of my grimoire discuss topics of new age spiritualism, dangerous conspiracy theories, and bigotry in witchcraft so some resources in this list focus on that.

doubling down into this witchcraft-as-RPG thing and I think I have a good point to make so here we go:
This is something I've been trying to speak on for a while and I feel like I've said similar recently but it's still on my mind, so,
the practitioner is a vital ingredient in witchcraft that you cannot remove from the equation,
and,
IMO a huge part of why spells and magic can feel hit-or-miss is because you aren't the same person as the guy who developed the spell,
and what works for them might not work for you at all.
And no, I don't necessarily mean sensory/belief/meaning stuff. Because a lot of the time we see people say stuff like this:
"Spells that call for long periods of focus and attention don't work for me because I can't focus." (valid)
Or for example, someone might say this:
"Due to my upbringing I strongly associate the color green with envy, weakness, and spite, so I can't do a money spell that uses the color green." (valid)
But that kind of thing isn't what I mean.
If you like, envision a witch as being an RPG character that has their own skill tree. (RPG metaphors are so convenient)
So let's take one witch who has heavily invested in spiritual elemental magic. This witch has dedicated time and energy to studying elemental magic. They have initiated under the Elemental Guardians. All of their spells are built around an elemental framework. They maintain offering shrines for elementals. Their spiritual calendar is based around honoring the cycle of elements within the seasons.
Like, this witch min/maxed their spiritual elemental magic. They've unlocked that entire skill tree.
And skills within that skill tree include things like:
Skill Unlocked: [Fire Elementals Appear When Called For]
Achievement Unlocked: [Elemental Fire Favors You]
Achievement Unlocked: [Initiated Under King of Fire]
Achievement Unlocked: [Your Spells Are Welcomed on Roads of Fire]
Skill Unlocked: [Lighting Candles Automatically Increase Spell Power]
Okay, so. This person starts sharing "witch tips" and spells publicly. Like this:
"Hey, guys! This is an incredibly powerful banishing spell that uses nothing but a candle and visualizing fire burning away your problem. When I do it I can make people move across the country!"
Let me ask you this:
How is that spell going to work for someone who's spiritual elemental magic skill tree looks like this?
Skill Locked: [Fire Elementals Appear When Called For]
Achievement Hidden: [...]
Achievement Hidden: [...]
Achievement Hidden: [...]
Skill Hidden: [...]
Recently I was working with some lovely and very naturally talented practitioners who were going through a bit of a spirit problem. As is normal, they began to feel like their spirit problem might be insurmountable - that they were beset by a spirit of immense power that could not be gotten rid of.
What was one reason they felt nothing they did worked?
They followed a valid, authentic spell format written by a very serious, deeply initiated practitioner - and this initiated practitioner said the spell should last for months.
For these naturally talented practitioners who had never before worked with those powers or received any of those initiations...
the spell only lasted for weeks.
So naturally, that means this spirit is not able to be defeated even by the most powerful spells, right?
(wrong)
The practitioner is a vital ingredient in witchcraft that you cannot remove from the equation.
Or, in other words,
Just because you vibe with a spell, you like the correspondences, and you like the technique, doesn't mean you've unlocked the skills necessary to perform that spell!
Which, in my opinion, is some
Goddamn good news
Because if all this is true, then it would imply things like:
Sorcerous talent is something that can be developed and it stays with you (barring sudden class change, of course).
Hey, there's a reason spells feel hit-or-miss, random, or work more poorly than expected - and that reason can be fixed!
When I want to "practice" my path, but I have nothing to cast on, instead I can explore and develop relationships, techniques, and knowledge within my chosen area of interest.
When I gain an understanding about my own character sheet place in my path, it will give me a greater ability to craft and modify spells to specially work for me.
When I examine the techniques and spells given by others, I will gain an understanding not of whether or not I like their work, but whether or not it will work for me.
So the next time you cast a spell and you feel any part of it fall flat, or you didn't feel what you expected to feel, consider that it might be because you didn't unlock all the skills needed to cast that specific spell.
Sure, there are some cool cats out there who can gain miracle-like success in almost any spell all the time and they don't have to work for it.
But that's not me! And chances are, that's not you, either. So treat thaumaturgy as a skill to be improved upon, why not? Explore foundational, supportive, and adjacent magical techniques, why not? After all, everyone likes unlocking achievements.

About the Witch and Extra Links
Tumblr media
Hello! My name is Juniper or you can call me June. I’ve been an eclectic chaos practitioner for over a decade now.
Still learning new things every day and always reviewing the basics. I’ve spent most of my time lurking on witchblr but I decided that I’d like to start making original content.
This blog is also a dedication to Mother Hekate. It's in her domain to teach the magical side of things such as witchcraft, magic and sorcery.
A bit about me and what I dabble with!
Divination
Planetary magic
Energy work
Aspiring Herbalist
Chaos Magic
I have a new interest in Pop Culture Witchcraft. Legend of Zelda and Skyrim mainly
Getting back to my ancestry roots with Slavic Folk magic. Be patient I am learning slowly but my practice itself isn’t folk based
I kinda dabble in everything but these are my main interests. Very eclectic within my practice.
The kind of content you’ll expect here
Beginner and “Intermediate/Advanced” witchcraft content
Herbalism
Deity work
Energy work
Low energy/disability-friendly practice content (I have Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia so it’s a must)
Boosted posts
Some LGBTQ+ themes (I'm very gay and love my partner)
Ask box is always open. Please keep it respectful as the block button and I are friendly for my own peace

Tumblr media
This is a safe space for LGBTQ+. Yes, that means Aces too.
Tumblr media
Who is not welcome here?
Transphobes, terfs, fascists, right-winged ideologies and anyone else bigoted in the sphere. I also do not support Starseeds, New Aged appropriative movements, Atlantis or really any sort of spiritual conspiracy theories due to their background.
Tumblr media
Do you like my posts and my sense of chaotic humour? Look no further. I'll be starting a YouTube channel! My blog for such is @evergreensorcery to ask any questions. I'll be merging the blogs when the time comes. This channel is a devoted offering to Mother Hekate to spread knowledge of magic and the occult.
My channel is Evergreen Sorcery, I do not know when the launch date is quite yet as I am flying out to see my partner soon for a very special occasion. Feel free to subscribe for when the time comes!
All payments from the channel will go towards my continuing education in Ecology and Herbalism and help my life partner finally stay with me for the rest of our lives in my country. I hope you stick around for the journey.

Invisibility In Witchcraft
Invisibility is something we see in all different types of media for a very long time - superhero comics and movies, Harry Potter book and movie series, fairy tales and lore from several countries. It is one of those powers that even in modern science they have been trying to create true invisible cloaks and armor for military use. Though invisibility in literature and movies is not the same as when we refer to it in witchcraft. So let us talk about this aspect of magic today, a brief history and even some modern day spells.
Tumblr media
What is Invisibility Magic?
Invisibility magic is magic of concealing oneself, others, places and objects from detection. As stated above it is not in the literal sense of you vanishing from sight however think of it like a cloaking device - it helps you go unnoticed or makes you less likely to be observed. Of course take this with a grain of salt - magic has its limits. However, an invisibility spell can help you as an additional buffer of protection. Often times, invisibility spells are to ensure special items you have hidden away go undetected such as your grimoire on a bookshelf or sigils of protection scattered about your home, it can also be used for oneself or others to help them travel in safety.
History
Old manuscripts and grimoires dating back to the 1600s have been found describing spells for invisibility. These such spells include chanting, potions and rituals said to help the caster ‘vanish’ from people’s views or travel unseen. One of these manuscripts has been archived if you wish to see it here and another here please keep in mind these are old scripts and may not be safely done today - do your research on ingredients and if they are safe to use modernly.
Though invisibility in witchcraft is a bit harder to dig up, invisibility has a long and rich history in religion, folklore and tales. Many creatures, spirits and persons of lore, legend and story through the centuries are said to vanish without a trace or go unseen by normal people.
In the cases of witchcraft though it is harder to find information on it, as listed above some old manuscripts were found listing methods of invisibility. Some other methods listed have been carrying the heart of a bat or a toad or frog under one’s garments (or their right arm) can render you harder to detect. Others speak about how black hens and chickens may be related to invisibility by using their feathers as charms. Mercury historically was used as a method to be deemed invisible, with using it to make jewelry or charms a popular method - however perhaps not safe in modern day terms. Another grimoire called “The Second Book of the Secrets of Albertus Magnus” states that wrapping an Ophethalminus stone in a Laurel leaf will render the wielder invisible. What is an Ophethalminus stone? It is commonly accepted and believed he was referring to a Lapis Lazuli stone.
Tumblr media
Correspondences
Of course modern day invisibility calls for more modern day correspondences - to help insure the user and caster are using ingredients that relate to what they seek. Below is a brief list of some correspondences - please research before ingesting or applying anything to the skin. Research possible allergic reactions, side effects and complications of medicinal herbs and plants. Research all stones you use before subjecting them to heat, water or oil.
