I have been watching art tutorials and this one by Derek Domnic D’Souza caught my eye so I decided to try it out myself! I’m pretty proud of how it turned out!

find books, movies, games, etc. on the internet archive! for starters, here's a bunch of David Attenborough documentaries and all of the Animorphs books

burn your music onto cds

use pdf24 (available online or as a desktop app) instead of adobe

use unroll.me to clean your email inboxes

use thunderbird, mailfence, countermail, edison mail, tuta, or proton mail instead of gmail

remove bloatware on windows PC, macOS, and iOS X

remove bloatware on samsung X

use pixelfed instead of instagram or meta

use NCH suite for free software like a file converter, image editor, video editors, pdf editor, etc.

Seeing the No Kings protests not only makes me side eye GRRM when it comes to how he wrote the duty of the monarchy.

Even though I totally understand the why! This isn’t an in story criticism but a GRRM one in the way he didn’t give focus on the small folk & their perspectives on the uprisings and such.

And even with Dunk & Egg it just makes me feel so much weirder about the main series with so few POVs from small folk that are genuinely respected (especially when you compare them to how he writes the aristocracy).

Like this if a purely feelings based on understanding the evils of monarchy and how it impacted modern day (and specifically my personal history) but it just squicks me with how grandiose the duty of king and queen aren’t really disputed.

Like no a monarch will never protect the people, they will inherently steal and subjugate them.

And it comes around to the first instance that made me first viscerally be disgusted with this. During the latter seasons of GOT when we were really being hit over the head over Dumb and Dumbers lack of writing skill and pure unfiltered bigotry, far right European countries were using the way the North was presented as racist anti immigrant propaganda.

And I remember (vaguely now since it was so long ago) that GRRM disputed this subtly with how it was a good thing the Free Folk was coming through the Wall along with the fandom talking about how the series is about people coming together regardless of background to fight the Others.

And I was like yes this is why I love the series! But… there are problems, specially racism, baked into it that not only attracted bigots like D&D but also racists who sexualize the Dothraki and Dornish (the creepy fantasy white women project themselves into Dany with Drogo. There’s no way that isn’t a big reason why people ship it and deny how evil that relationship is) and far right freaks who use it to spread their own shit as FANS of the story.

Like there is an inherent problem if fascists like an anti fascist story and when you start looking into it you start seeing the links between Monarchy being way to glorified to the white supremacy that’s never unpacked to the way classism in how small folk are never given proper POVs etc.

I’ve been wanting to make a proper essay on this but whenever I try I just get pulled in a million different directions so I decided to just dump the rambles here bc the No King protests brought up these feelings again.

And it really made me remember why I want to write my fantasy historical story that specifically criticizes this aspect of ASOIAF and historical fiction as a whole.

It’s going to be so frustrating when the inevitable hate train for Rose comes back up again by either grifters, misogynists, or kids who are figuring things out.

I’m just glad that atleast this time there are a bunch of us who understand the mindset and tactics behind it and can actually fight back.

nice pair of characters who trust each other more than anyone else in the whole entire world it would sure be a shame if one of them betrayed that trust for the sake of trying to keep the other alive. it would sure be a shame to love someone so much you destroy them

"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 🙄" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence

I had a blast watching My Adventures with Superman S2 and I’ve wanted to draw Kara in her warrior outfit but was so skittish because I’ve never drawn mecha-esque stuff before. So when I was practicing poses from @adorkastock and saw this one it gave me such Kara energy that I had to try it out!
