I was thinking of a set of headcanons for how Kyojuro Rengoku would fall in love and deal with falling in love with his childhood friend, one who has been with him through thick and thin, even becoming a fellow slayer. Demon Slayer headcanon:

Rengoku falling in love with his best friend.

Rating: fluff, sfw

Pairing: Rengoku x (gender neutral) reader

You two were friends since infancy, due to your mothers being close.

When you were a young kid, Rengoku was your knight in shining armour. Protecting you from any older kids who decided to pick on you. Cus he was quite tall for his age, many children didn’t want to get on his bad side.

You idolised him so much that one time you ate a bunch of tempuras so that your hair would turn the same colour as his (so you thought). After that Rengoku had to carry you home because you stomach ache was so bad.

Being with him all the time definitely had its perks. His father trained both of you together, and this caused the both of you to become even closer. Rengoku would sneak into you bedroom at night, since you lived close together. You’d run away with him to practice in the late hours of the night, before stopping to watch the stars together.

It was one night when you to were laying on the training field, Huffing from the vigorous exercise, when Rengoku spoke to you softly,

“I’m gonna go for it..”

“For what?” You nudge his arm, causing him to roll over on his side to look at you.

“I’m going to go to final selection,” his eyes shone with a certain determination. As if nothing was deemed more important to his destiny. You give him a short smile. How could you not expect?

You sit up, causing him to sit up with you, and place a hand on his chest, right on top of his heart.

“You can go, but promise me this. Once I’m old enough to join the demon slayer corps myself, this thing better still be beating,” you gently tap his chest, which makes Rengoku’s heart beat faster. Why are you being so sincere?

After that, Rengoku left for final selection. Him completing it and coming back home the next week as an official member made you all the more determined to climb higher. You were younger than him, so it took you a year before you could make it to your own final selection.

During this time, you’d write Rengoku letters. Sometimes he’d send one back. But you knew he was always travelling, and so it was hard to communicate. His hearing had deteriorated since his fight with the flute Demon, and his hands had become ridden with all sorts of nasty scars, but besides that you knew nothing else about his travels.

After making it into the corps, your relationship went silent for a while. Rengoku was climbing up the ranks fast, and you worked hard to maintain a good name for yourself.

It was when you were both highly acclaimed demon slayers that you finally crossed paths again. At a meeting for higher ups to be exact.

Rengoku had gotten taller, and had filled out. No more gangly limbs and small muscles. He was broad and strong. Nothing like the boy he used to be.

To him, you still shared the same sweet smile and dimples with your younger self. Years without you could not change how he saw you in his heart. His partner to cherish.

Now that the both of you had been reunited, it was like fireworks were going off in his head. Guilt and shock and gratitude flashed in his mind. How long did you wait for his letters? How did he spend all those years alone when he could have been with you?

Rengoku distanced himself so that no harm would come to you. He was not weak, so it was no surprise that demon’s fancied trying to challenge him. The last thing he wanted was to get you hurt.

But you were strong, and this confirmed that you were not someone to be protected, but someone to stand with in battle.

After reuniting, Rengoku wouldn’t leave your side. It was this realisation that this was utter puppy love that drew him to your hip. So many years apart made him miss you dearly.

The two of you went on missions together, ate together, trained together. The more time he spent with you, the more restless he got. It almost seemed like a chant in his mind. Closer

Night had fallen once again. You’d already settle d down for the evening, sprawled against the bed with you night attire on. A loud thud against the door made you awake to the sight of a very disheveled Rengoku.

He leaned against the door frame, eyes locking on your beautiful form. He shivered, craving to touch and and hold you. Sweat gleamed on his forehead. He looked utterly desperate.

“Please…may I?” He voiced rang out in the silence, and you looked at him in shock. How long did he keep his feelings to himself? A warm feeling bloomed in your chest and you smiled warmly at him, gesturing him towards your bed.

It didn’t take long for him to sit you in his lap, kissing you fiercely as if it were the thing he’d always wanted. After breaking away he cupped your cheeks with his hands and smiled.

“It was always you.”

Genshin impact Headcanon:

When they have a nightmare:

Xiao:

You could hear it, the sharp painful grunts that escaped Xiao's mouth. 

it was in the dead of night. You decided it would be a good idea to spend the night with Xiao at Wangshu inn. However, you did not realise how difficult it was for him to sleep. With his past, you should have guessed it. 

As if writhing in pain, Xiao clenches his fists and turns his head. Sputtering whimpers of desperate pleas and utter nonsense.

“Wait! no.. take me.. instead...” Sweat runs down his forehead. 

“Xiao,” You lightly shake him, moving closer to his side. 

“Doesn’t... deserve- take me... Please!” he jolts, scrunching his face in agony. 

“Xiao!” You slap him hard across the face, becoming more urgent to wake him up. As soo as your palm leave his cheek his eyes flash straight open. Something in them doesn’t seem right.. 

A quick force shoves you into the sheets, tight hands wrapping around your delicate throat. Xiao’s eyes gleam with crazed panic. His grip is too strong, and your shrieks don’t reach his ears. 

Only after he notices that it’s you, and not some intruder, does he take his hands back as if he’s burnt them. Letting tears fall down his cheeks as he rests his head on your abdomen, legs kneeling on each side of your body, arms pulled into his chest tightly. 

“I didn't.. no-” he flinches when you bring your hand to run through his hair. Your soft touch brings more tears to his eyes. He leans into your hand, almost purring at the relief of knowing you aren’t hurt. 

“Take it slow Xiao. Things will get better, I promise.” You sit up in the bed, causing Xiao to shift his weight, sitting in front of you. You lift your pinkie finger and whisper another “I promise” until he wraps his own pinkie around yours. Kissing you deeply in the process. 

Childe:

Spending the night in Childe’s bed was not out of the ordinary. The ginger-haired fellow seemed enlightened in the fact that he could wrap his arms around you and rest. 

But Childe would often have nightmares. Blood curdling agonies of the events he faced in the abyss. 

It was in the early hours of the morning when you could hear hard thumps coming from the other side of the house. The other side of the bed completely empty save the thrown about linen, damp with sweat. 

You leapt out of bed at the sound of metal clashing against metal.  a thunderous clap ringing in your ears. Fetching the pointed dagger from your bed side table, you sprint towards the entrance to the training room. Perhaps there may have been a break in?

A stupid question. As soon as you round the corner you bare witness to a dishevelled harbinger. Hair tossed about and slick with sweat, eyes peeled towards the training dummy sat pathetically in the centre of the room. 

Childe pants hard, centring him balance before hacking away at the dummy’s torso with a sharpened blade. Thinning its waist before it almost comes clean off. 

But not before a smaller blade shoots out from its chest. You poke your head out from behind the dummy, giving Childe a winning smile. 

“What am I gonna do with you,” you cross your arms. Seeing the way his eyes darken at remembrance has you frowning. 

He steps back from you, gesturing towards his trembling build. Tall and strong, but tired. “didn’t think you’d see me like this,” he says. His smile doesn't reach his eyes. 

“Nothing a cup of tea cant fix. Besides, we promised to take care of each other right? I’m not leaving your side tonight babe,” you wink at him jokingly.

Childe breathes a sigh of relief before following you to the kitchen. You knew just what to say…

Kaeya

Kaeya never liked to cry in front of anyone. Well, no one really knew what to say when he did. He was always so cunning and joyful, why would he ever cry?

It was one of those nights. Kaeya leapt out of bed after shaking himself from his night terrors. Trying not to wake you up, he crept from the bedroom before falling to his knees in the study. Furiously wiping his tears and internally kicking himself for being so weak.

“Kaeya…?” Shit. You woke up shortly after he’d left. Knocking quietly on the door while waiting for him to open it.

You could hear a fumbling of things and silent muffles before seeing a very worn kaeya open the door. He was smiling, but you couldn’t tell if it was a smile or a grimace.

“Hey pretty lady, up quite late aren’t you? Let’s go back to bed shall we?” He tries to lead you back to the bedroom. What takes him by surprise however, is when you wrap you arms around his back and embrace him.

“Don’t try and hide it… I love you, so let me take care of you,” he never knew words could break his walls down so easily.

Kaeya looked at you from a split moment before balling into the crook of your neck. Returning your embrace and locking his arms around you waist. You could feel your shirt getting damp from his tears.

You two shared this moment for some time. Kaeya sobbing while you stroked his long hair. It was when his sobs had turning into quiet sniffles that you started to speak.

“Let’s get you fixed up big fella,” you say softly. Holding his hand as you walk him to the bathroom. His face was red and eyes wet. Hair in a dishevelled way. Once you two each the bathroom, you wash his face in a wet cloth before starting to do his hair.

You put it into once long braid, and when your done you take his face in you hands, cupping his cheeks. You smile and chuckle quietly,

“Petty boy,” he leans his head on your chest. Breathing in your scent before leaving a tender kiss on your collarbone, eyes fixated on you with love.

“Oh how could I not adore you?” He kisses you on the lips this time.

Diluc:

Diluc didn’t hate anyone more than himself. That was a fact. The thing he said to his brother and the actions he’d done to shut people out haunted his dreams. Regret always lingering in the back of his mind.

One of these terrible dreams had diluc walking outside the winery late at night. Tears silently rolling down his cheeks while gazing at the sky. Cursing the stars at his misfortune.

His steps slowed down at the sight of the lights being turned on at the mansion. Hearing a loud bang of the front doors being flung open before seeing you scramble out the house. Bunching your night gown to make sure you don’t trip. Hair flowing in the wind behind you as you looks around.

Your eyes look with him, and you race towards him. But seeing his face raw with emotion has you stopping just a few meters in front of him.

“What’s wrong? God you scared the shit out of me,” you breath heavily. You weren’t even wearing shoes, diluc thought.

He looks at you meekly before whispering, “why is it always me?” More tears falling from his eyes.

Your sad expression and you open arms has him racing towards you instead. Picking you up and holding you in his arms, face nestled in the crook of your neck. He slowly puts you back down as he cries silently.

“Oh Diluc, sweetheart..” your words only make him cry harder. “Let’s go sit”

You gesture him towards the river, and the two of you sit on grass and sit in comfortable silence. Rubbing his hand with you thumb, you let him wrap his arms around you, making you sit in between his legs.

Diluc kisses your head. Silently worshipping your body as if this is your last night together. Slowly rocking you and pressing your bodies as close together as possible. His tears keep flowing, but he’s content. Being with you is all he needs right now.

Xiao

Xiao can get pretty heated, so he often says things he won’t mean during an argument.

He will always try to control his temper with you though. Knowing that you’re someone important to him, he’ll try his best not to upset you.

But sometimes that can be very difficult, especially when he’s really mad.

He’ll raise his voice and throw his hands around, looking for something to throw or break. He wouldn’t hurt you physically ever. But I’m times like this were he feels vulnerable he just wants to fight something to get out of whatever situation he’s in.

You know his ways, but you can’t help but find yourself a bit anxious with the way he’s behaving. He is a supernatural after all. You don’t want him to lose his temper completely.

“Fine! I didn’t want anything to do with you anyway,” or “Maybe you weren’t cut out for this journey after all!” The finishing blow to this argument that really sets the waterworks going.

He’ll immediately tense up if he hears you go silent, spinning around, He’ll notice the way your head drops and how your shoulders start to shake. As soon as he sees this, his terrible guilt will throw him towards you. Grabbing you shoulders or face and saying over and over again, “I apologise, I apologise..” cus it’s the only thing he knows to say.

Don’t be afraid to give him a piece of your mind, he’ll take it. And if you leave to go get some space he won’t follow you. He’ll let you have your time before coming back to him. Nothing hurts more than causing you pain. So trust he’ll do anything he can to prevent that in the future.

Childe

Oh he hates making you upset or seeing you cry. He’s definitely a pleaser boyfriend, so this will break his heart.

He got hurt during one of his fighting frenzies. Whenever childe’s riled up, he often goes out and slaughters monsters to cool his mood the adventure guild thanks him for it

He’d become a lot more frustrated lately, with the harbingers on his back and all this responsibility sitting on his shoulder, for him, getting a scratch or two was just all in a day’s work. But not for you.

Childe made it to your side, kneeling down to pick up the broken pieces of porcelain in his scratched hands. You knelt down, lifting his bangs to see the gash at the crown of his head. He looked at you, eyes blank, as if it didn’t even hurt.

“This happens often, y/n, I’m still here right? Just a bit rough around the edges that’s all”

You stand up, frantically shaking your head until your whole mind is spinning. Shaky hands and loose tears, Childe has a look of pure anguish before he wraps his arms around you. Holding you tight to stop you from shaking.

Through all the dirt and blood, his heart is still beating and that’s what you needed most at this time, leaning you head in the crook of his neck, you slowing put your hands of his back.

“Don’t let me lose you, not now, not ever”

Zhongli

Zhongli isn’t the type of man to get frustrated often, so I don’t think he’d make you cry from saying something or behaving in a way you didn’t like. 

however, it’s his deteriorating memory that has you sad for him. As  Zhongli gets even older, his reminiscence of what he once was gets foggy. Once he realised this, it was decided that he would start to right down all the things that once were. People or beings he encountered while being the Geo archon. 

You remembered how he once told these stories to you during the start of your relationship. Legends of beasts and almost forgotten god’s. All residing in Zhongli’s memory like the pages of a story book. 

Each night got harder to watch as he scribbled messy thoughts in these books. Rushing to get them down before they fluttered away like a gentle breeze. 

Tonight, you had brought him tea and sat next to his desk. Watching his pen scribble on paper before ripping it from the book with a frustrated growl. letting the ball of paper fall to the floor with the rest of his scribbled notes. 

You reach a hand out to his own, and he absentmindedly wraps his hand around yours. Brushing his thumb against your wrist. Tears started to fall from your eyes, seeing his distressed look and tired body. 

“What are you writing about this time?” You whisper. He straightens up, surprised to see the tears running down your face. 

“Some memories of...” He begins to recite what he wants to write, and you instantly remember the tales he told you. Perhaps there is a way to geet these down after all. 

“Don’t cry, i’ll be in bed soon,” he cups your face in his warm hand. You let out out a quiet giggle and shake your head, laughing at the fact that he thought you were crying from loneliness. Reaching out, you rest a hand on his pen, picking it up and twirling it between your fingers. 

“I think It went more like this..”
