Hey there guys, gals and nonbinary mycopals! MycoChaotiX here! Just your friendly, cosmic, queer, non-binary (they/them) mycophile! I started exploring mycology July 2021! I am impassioned with mycological and micro-boiological research and cultivation. I also serve as a moderator on the Contamination ID and Myco-advice subreddit r/ContamFam. On that platform, I am known as the Trich Hunter. I have a passion for studying all types of contamination because I believe that learning from failures and understanding what to avoid in research efforts are crucial for personal growth and reducing occurrences of contamination. My DMs are always open to assess grain spawn or agar plates or discuss potential contam or anything related :) —- (linktr.ee/mycochaotix)

Hey mycopals!
New Year, new projects! That means more, interesting and diverse MCX supplies around the corner! This year I plan to revamp my Patreon subscriptions, and for those who don’t know, my Instagram was banned for “drug use“ which is ridiculous but whatever. I am now posting on Reddit and being more engaged on discord and Patreon in lieu of Instagram.
Our MCX mycocommunity discord has bloomed to about 39 mycopals! If you are queer, non confirming, otherwise an ‘ally’ who happens to be a mycopal, please join us! Message me here or discord for invite link!
Reminder for my main link list: linktr.ee/mycochaotix
——————————
Summary and project codes:
E10 - KSAT x Nutcracker - Yoshi (retry) (context: have tried to use the swab before and did not get germination using again at this time using two variations of swap patterns, as well as petal inoculation techniques
F3 - APE - ITW (LC droplet inoc.) (context: I have a very potent and unique specimen isolate for APE already (my a2-2 chonk). That specimen originated from PGT. As such that specimen was first researched by me three years ago. So I thought it was fitting to try out ITW’s isolation of the strain. Who knows what phenotypes I may find :-)
F4 - KSSS - ITW (mss droplet inoc) (context: I don’t know much about this strain. A cursory search on ITW yields:
“Koh Samui Super Strain is another unique cubensis discovered by John Allen on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand. This is the second largest island in Thailand, and is famed for its large dense rainforests, which are ideal environments for naturally grown magic mushrooms. Ryche Hawk from Hawseye graciously funded the trip where John discovered this strain, and we owe homage to his generous donation towards furthering the cubensis gene pool.
Koh Samui drops dense purple spores and features the classic golden cap look that we all know and love.”
F5 - FCPE - ITW (LC droplet inoc) (context: I don’t know much about this strain. A cursory search on ITW yields:
“Franks Cock Penis Envy isolate comes from the very first tub of pe genetics from sporeworks that PMG ever had the pleasure to work with. He ran it completely multi-spore, injecting directly to grain (something he hadn’t done in years). PMG was looking for a good clone like we do, and one of the very first fruits came up fast and had a great look to it. He figured it was the first of plenty so went ahead and dried it! However, after all the flushes were finished, PMG realized it was that first fruit that spoke to him the most, but it has now been dried for a month. Not letting this hold him back, PMG took a plate that had a little condensation on it and left some tissue from the dried fruit on it to grab moisture and start shoring hyphae. To his surprise, he was able to save it! Thus came the name Frankensteins cock, as this PE was brought back to life! It’s a great fruiter and unlike most Penis envy, FCPE has tons of spores! Frankenstein Cock Penis Envy is a fantastic isolation for anyone looking to expand their PE library.”
F6 - Yeti - ITW (swab and petal inoc) (context: I don’t know much about this strain. A cursory search on ITW yields:
“The Yeti strain was first discovered by mycologist Jik Fibs, and has quickly gained massive popularity in the genetics community. Yeti is one of many isolations of true albino teacher, a family which includes fan favorites such as Ghost Spore Swabs, Wombat TAT Spore Swabs, and Jack Frost Isolated Syringes.”
E7 - Omni-blob -mutant’-pheno - my efforts at salvaging specimen samples from the mutant tubs from the last few months
E9 - Omni-blob - brain’-pheno - grocery search on Yoshi‘s diner store site for Omni only yielded Omni blob and so I believe that the wedges I received, I may have misread. Either way both of these cultivars in mine are Omni blogs, but I believe that they are two separate phenotype isolate. As I work with these plates and then go out again, I will be able to know.
Update on end of life observation project:
I also sundown my research project on senescence of our mushroom producing fungal organisms. I realized, bringing in the new year: that I have been observing and documentong these specific inoculated organisms as they fruit and wither and reclaim themselves then repeat a few times, until no fruit body or vegetative, mycelium growth was noted in addition to the mycelial surface turning blue and peppermint, smell emitting at cessation of observable growth- consistent across all specimen cultivars. I took fancy high-quality photos of them before I disposed of them and plan to upload them here soon!
Mush love in this new, wild year mycopals!
-MCX

Slime mould! Super cool organisms with super cool life cycles! This is a life cycle diagram for cellular slime mould, Dictyostelium discoideum. Starvation is a main trigger of the amoebae form of rhe organism leading to ‘slug’ forms that transform into a fruiting body thats a sporangium structure atop a basal disc and thin stalk! The amoeba form comes from the fruiting bodies spore germination!🧠🤯

I generally stay apolitical on my myco-social media. This speech… is historic. Michelle Obama is a literal legend and I would honestly vote for her for any office! She lays out points of consideration and orates so masterfully… that I am in tears parked at home watching it… her words and form and class are as amazing as when I voted for her husband years ago. This whole speech was masterful. The last five-ten minutes will hit you hard. Be sitting down. This one needs to be heard regardless of your voting choices.
10 days left. I hope we make it out on the side of democracy and not fascisim.

Pic 1- MACE 2nd flush coming in. First flush soaked the cake right up xD no dunk or casing between flushes, just right back onto fruiting shelf
Pic 2,3,4-‘Omnimutant’ moving in the tub now, woooo. Plate pic for reference, is two months behind the tub— slow grower for sure
Happy friday mycopals!

Lucky you!!! All beautiful to look at!
The first picture looks like Changle fungus to me (Ramaria flava)
2nd/3rd pic I dont recognize
4th pic reminds me of Chlorophyllum molybdites (False Parasol)
5th pic im not sure. Kinda looks like premature lionsmame
6th pic: unsure
7th pic: reminds me of schizophyllum commune
8th pic… unsure… very cool fruiting bodies! Giving me slime mold vibes… but I only have passing knowledge of the myxogastrids 🤪

It was a good day for fungi

Hello ! I saw your post about Round 2 Q&A testers, And i would love to partake in your experiments and studies! Though I am only an amateur home mycologist, id love to contribute to the scientific comprehension of these mushroom genetics :) Also, i am genuinely like kinda jealous and super impressed by your whole process, like keep it up bud, I'm here for it. I love mycology soo mush lol. Anyways, if you don't mind my askin, what makes you LC Sooo Green??
Hey mycopal! Thank you for reaching out :) your vibe seems very cool! I used food grade dye for the colors in my LCs 💉❤️🍄 easy peasy lol!!!
If you want to talk about any of my process or maybe consult about your processes im always open to it!
Also, if you want to join up on our mycocommunity discord you are welcome! My qa round 2 just filled :( BUT i plan to do more rounds and you can get in on those in future 💯💯❤️
Discord link ^ if interested, must be queer or queer friendly and follow some basic decency rules but other than that we have a tight knit mycocommunity of helpful and loving mycopals right now if you are interested. Looking for for new, Round 2, QA testers
Want to be a QA tester for some unique and high-quality mycology supplies? I am opening applications to join my QA tester group! I’m an academic-minded, queer myco mentor with an educational focus. Round 1 testers need not apply. Four spots open for round
What is the MCX QA testers group?
Since diving into LC creation and supply, I’ve implemented a quality assurance tester group for my LCs and swabs. My QA tests are vital for me to learn and understand how various mycological pals use my LCs on different grains, agar recipes, and substrates. My goal is to ensure healthy colonization, delivery of quality housing products (syringes, needles, generic slaps, etc). While also ensuring healthy research outcomes. Use grains and agar you’re comfortable with, we learn together. Note: LCs might appear odd on agar initially, give it a few days for normal white and healthy growth.
What you get if accepted:
1. During your assigned qa round, you’ll receive a collection of my newest specimens that I’m holding for release until round feedback is gathered over a few months.
2. Round 2 will include ghidora, bluey vuitton, jack frost, and albino talis
3. I cover shipping.
4. Lifetime* partreon-level discount prices on my regular supplies
(*unless you fuck up*)
5. Invite to my (currently private) mycocommunity discord server and special roles within. We have a few dozen members now that share their love of mycology, biology, general science, art, food, trauma healing, mycolibrary, community connection of open minded folks who want to be supportive of one’s journey
Requirements:
1. USA address
2. Use LCs within 1-2 weeks of receipt
3. Preferably agar test before grain inoculation. We can discuss.
4. Minimum usage: 2-3mL per qt of grain, 1mL cc’s to be used for droplet plate inoculation
5. Join private mycodiscord for updates and sharing experiences
6. Minimum Bi-weekly feedback on research efforts and progress or barriers within our mcx mycocommunity discord
7. Tag me on social media when showcasing my LCs. For contamination issues, inform me on discord for assessment.
**Note:** The return address wont be my actual address. Don’t send thank you cards or gifts to that address.

Before you can sanitize a surface, you first need to make sure it’s properly cleaned.
Start by using a surface cleaner or surfactant to remove any visible dirt, grease, or organic matter from the area. It’s important to do this cleaning step thoroughly, as any leftover debris can protect microbes from the sanitizing agent.
Once the surface is visibly clean, you’ll need to rinse it well with clean water to wash away any residual cleaner.
Now that the surface is clean and rinsed, you can move on to the sanitizing step. What I do in my workspaces, is: a diluted bleach solution (10% bleach to 90% water) or other applicable sanitizer to spray or wipe down the area. This kills off most bacteria and viruses that could contaminate your reesesech.
Something to consider that many dont realize: you should allow the sanitized surface to fully air dry before using it. Wiping it down could reintroduce contamination and beach, for wxample, has an ancillary disinfection that occurs drom its fumes as it dries ;).
Worth considering: there will be some disconnect between people considering this due to sanitization, sterilization, disinfection, aseptic, etc all kinda mixing together.
Aseptic technique is essentially “maintaining an environment that does not introduce microbes onto a workspace”.
Sanitization and disinfection are, imo, same coin but sanitization is of a lesser degree of microbial reduction. More appropriate for getting a workspace clean enough to run a food manufacturing process-line.
Disinfection is the next step up, requiring more concentrate strength in solution used and kills more shit. Sterilization is more like … autoclave.

“Bleach is a strong and effective disinfectant – its active ingredient sodium hypochlorite is effective in killing bacteria, fungi and viruses, including influenza virus – but it is easily inactivated by organic material. Diluted household bleach disinfects within 10–60 minutes contact time (see Table G.1 below for concentrations and contact times), is widely available at a low cost, and is recommended for surface disinfection in health-care facilities. However, bleach irritates mucous membranes, the skin and the airways; decomposes under heat and light; and reacts easily with other chemicals. Therefore, bleach should be used with caution; ventilation should be adequate and consistent with relevant occupational health and safety guidance. Improper use of bleach, including deviation from recommended dilutions (either stronger or weaker), may reduce its effectiveness for disinfection and can injure health-care workers.“

This Kwazulu Natal landrace: P. natalensis - I chose to isolate this plate (taped) due to heavy plate metabolites and otherwise unhealthy morphology of mycelium. Maybe a week or two ago.
But the specimen is surely resilient, as demonstrated here. from t4 xfer on 07/08 from mother-swab plate from 03/01.
