Hey, so it's been about 4 months since I posted here. I kinda fell out of the Coco fandom. I didn't mean to, but I was interested in different things, and I forgot about Coco. 🤷🏽♀️
I will make an effort to post here again! Just give me time. In the meantime, here’s all of my blogs.

So I rewatched Coco, and I realized something rewatching the scene after Imelda saves Miguel and Hector from the cenote.
This scene, specifically.
While Imelda yells at him, I found out that Hector says her name. 😭😭😭😭
To make it worse, it doesn't sound like he says her full name. 😭😭😭😭
It sounds like "Mela". 😭😭😭😭
But what do you think?
#i think its mela because im an angst gremlin but I wanna hear your opinion#coco 2017#imelda rivera#hector rivera#as always fuck de la cruz#not an incorrect quote#imector

*Imelda is reading Coco a Clifford The Big Red Dog book*
Ernesto, watching: How did he get to be so big? Do they ever explain that?
Imelda : Well, Emily’s love for him grew, and so did he.
Ernesto: Well, your dog is pretty small. Guess that says something about you, huh?
Imelda , angrily shutting their book: YOU’RE SMALL! WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT YOUR PARENTS?!?!

Can someone plssssss shine a light on the concept of how Imelda felt after Ernesto touched her the way he touched her during the La Llorona scene???
#i feel like we don't talk about that part of the scene enough#coco 2017#imelda rivera#mama imelda#not an incorrect quote

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! A lot of people also compare her to Alma from Encanto and she is NOTHING like that bitch. (Warning for mention of abuse)
Alma abused her children and grandchildren to a degree that Bruno "left" the family and made him superstitious, Isabella always has to put on a show, and she is forced to be married.
Imelda never abused Coco's family or her brothers over the music ban. Yes, it's alluded to that Imelda and Coco have argued over the ban. But she never abused Coco. She raised Coco to the best of her ability and provided for her until she was able to provide for herself.
Another thing that differs from Imelda and Alma is that Imelda showed genuine affection and care for Miguel even though he was breaking family rules. She helped Miguel do what he had to do to get back to the Land of the Living. She even explained why the music ban existed and why it still exists.
Alma never did that. She never tried and helped Mirabel with being the odd one out. She never explained why she was hard on Isabella, Luisa, Pepa, Camilo, and everyone else with a gift. The only reason we got was that Pedro died, the Encanto was born, and she has to keep the candle burning.
Also, Imelda is this dynamic character that we see change throughout the movie. Although in her introductory scene, we see that she is someone who doesn't take crap from anyone and she hates music for no reason, which isn't true. But by the end of the movie, we see she has changed her POV on music, lifted the ban, and has gotten back together with Hèctor.
So I agree, Imelda Rivera Rights.
the level of lack of understanding of imelda's character really gets me
people act like she banned music just to be a bitch and it's like, no! she was heavily traumatised.
it's not like she really hated music - she hated what music represents, that her husband abandoned her and their daughter.
like people brush over this so much because héctor was actually murdered but imelda didn't know that! it's called dramatic irony!
imelda rivera was abandoned by her husband (again, no knowledge of his death because ernesto wasn't interested in self-sabotage) and became a single mother in 1920s mexico (objectively true). like shit wasn't easy for her and I'm tired of people portraying her as a petty bitch or 'as worse as ernesto'.
careful. your misogyny/racism is showing.
what else could imelda have done? going after ernesto would have 1) not been viable (single parent of a young kid) and 2) very fucking dangerous (murderer and whatnot).
I'm sure she felt guilt after learning the truth, but the whole tragedy for héctor and imelda for me is that they were simultaneously both and neither at fault. héctor had a really shitty best friend and a really shitty after life and imelda felt deeply betrayed.
anyway. stop placing unrealistic expectations on imelda rivera thanks
I get when you see her through the lens of miguel it can be 'easy' to see her as a music hating bitch but she's a deeply traumatised woman with unhealthy coping mechanism who like. learned her lesson and apologised to miguel in a span of the night after almost a century of trauma. she banned music as a surviving mechanism not to spite her (unbeknownst) murdered husband or her music-loving great-great-grandson. she's not omniscient.
anyway imelda rivera rights.
#this maybe an analysis of an analysis but okay#imelda rivera#coco pixar#héctor rivera#abuela alma madrigal#disney encanto

Looking at this scene now, this is probably the first time in a long time since Hector has interacted with a crowd. 💔

Can we talk about this for a minute????
The way Hector motions to the family to get behind him and puts his hand out to protect them is *chef's kiss*. He's already taking the role of Patriarch of the family. 🥹
Also, how he's at the front, being the leader and ready to jump in if De La Cruz lays a finger on Imelda. 🥺💜
The twins looking out for each other is everything to me. I don't know which one is which, but one of them pulling the other back broke me. It was so sweet! 😭😭😭
This gif is everything to me. It shows how much the family loves each other and how they look out for one another. 🧡

What’s your headcanon about all the dead Rivera ages?
Thanks for the ask! Here's what I think:
We all know that Hector died at the young age of 21. 💔
I headcanon Victoria as the first one to die of the main group. I want to believe she was around her early 40s.
About 10 years later, Imelda died when she was in her mid to late 70s.
Oscar & Felipe were next, and both died two or three years after her. They were 65-66.
Rosita was next to die four years later at 50.
I headcanon that Coco's memories go back and forth to when she was little and when Julio was last alive. Ten years ago in 2007. (Note that the movie came out in 2017) Coco is 99 in the movie. 100 when she died. So, Julio was 89. I headcanon they were the same age when they met.
I hope this wasn't too confusing! 💫
